PC through a XRGB-mini Framemeister running emulators ?
hi members , i was wondering if anyone has hooked up their PC through a XRGB-mini Framemeister running emulators with scanlines ?
if so what emulators have you tried ..............
im interested in this so some info would be great
chat soon

Emulators on PC already have bad input lag and with the Framemeister you would only make it worse. All modern emulators will allow you to use scanlines or other filters that are at least as good as what the Framemeister can do.

No exactly what you asked, but I currently use a Wii running Retroarch at 240p with my XRGB-3 setup. It's replaced all pre-32 bit systems due to space/money issues. It's very easy to use and performs will, but Retroarch currently doesn't save resolution or gamecube controller configurations. 1.0.0.3 will supposedly fix these issues.
If you're going the PC route I'd cut out the Framemeister completely, some of the shaders are really impressive.

I tried it with the XRGB3 a few years back and found it to be pointless. With HLSL and pixel shaders around now it's less than pointless.

Afraid I'd have to agree with the lag problem. It's shockingly high in any emulator I've used that doesn't tear. Emulation lag is the #1 reason I still use the original consoles.s8n wrote:hi members , i was wondering if anyone has hooked up their PC through a XRGB-mini Framemeister running emulators with scanlines ?

retroarch has the least lag of any emulator i've tried so far, but it still has enough to bug me. even on a CRT.

How are you measuring it? The whole "PC Emulators are laggy" thing seems to be thrown around a lot, yet we know that the Xbox 360 (wired) controller has almost no lag, and we know running games fullscreen we can minimise lag so I'm not so sure. I do believe lag isn't something that you can always tell is there but does affect your reaction times of course.

Re: PC through a XRGB-mini Framemeister running emulators ?
Retroarch is not an emulator and it's messing with the games original speed.
At least is does on an lcd setup.
GroovyMame has got my preference but when it comes to lag, so far no complete confirmation of 'the best syncing method in X or X situation' has been made, only statements.
RA does support a very, VERY nice set of shaders though, much less of a hassle compared to HLSL. I'd pick RA only for that.
And yeah +1 to scalers being useless for emulation.

There was a thread on this recently wasn't there? http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37882
Do not misunderstand me, I believe emulators probably do have input lag but I'm unconvinced it's that much worse than original system + Framemeister.

Re: PC through a XRGB-mini Framemeister running emulators ?
Oh I totally agree with that!
Anyway I think we pretty much covered everything already.
Just repeating the posts but; scalers are waste of money and hardware if it's just for emulation.
Emulators are more than fine by themselves, and it's just like you said: who really feels a couple frames of lag ?
I know I do only on a few games I've practiced a lot, and I need to concentrate and do quick side-by-side comparisons with real hardware to really notice the difference.
Still, just knowing it's there is irritating isn't it ?
All this lag stuff is so confusing... I've tested myself with the Leo Bodnar once and found my brain lags by two frames already.

Definitely not in a scientific way. Using a PVM, I hooked up an SNES to RGB A input, and hooked up my PC running retroarch in native SNES resolution to RGB B input, and switched back and forth. I tried every SNES core in retroarch and each one had noticeable input lag compared to the real SNES. It's probably not enough to affect gameplay but knowing it's there is enough to bother my OCD self.

Re: PC through a XRGB-mini Framemeister running emulators ?
It's a bit worse, and when it comes to input lag even the smallest bits matter. I just tested it very unscientifically by playing Super Mario World side by side real SNES+XRGB-mini and Retroarch+360 controller.BuckoA51 wrote:There was a thread on this recently wasn't there? http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37882

There is a noticeable difference, which is why you hear it a lot. Sure the difference is small, but it does affect playability, that said if response time was everything you could probably disable vsync and deal with the tearing and get better results than real hardware+XRGB-mini.
There aren't a lot of people with the equipment to measure it, which is why you haven't seen any solid scientific numbers on it. There's also a LOT of variables to account for (this being PCs, there are a lot of settings). It's entirely possible I get more input lag with my PC because of some misconfiguration somewhere for example.
Also, just to repeat what everyone is saying in case OP hasn't gotten it yet: there is NO reason to connect a PC emulator box to a XRGB-mini. Emulators do everything the XRGB-mini do on their own, and much better at that.
