I'd literally buy the best shmup ever for 100$ and wouldn't even have to think about it. I think that I know many members who could do the same.

Well, I was so motivated by what you all said I already made progress. Well, not exactly, I was mostly thinking about it and preparing meself psychologically. I am autistic, but Asperger's which is mild (I'm not buried deep inside my own world 90% of the time). Asperger's is actually an advantage, explains why I'm able to work fast, fully focused on the tasks, working in parallel. I already made the best shmup ever in my head, I just need to now do that with just 2 hands. Sometimes I wish I had more of those. But, it's done already! If you wish you can pay me in advance?

I'm gonna do it! I'm gonna do it, for sure! It's not about the money, although the money would make it possible for me to only work on game development making dozens of games I always wanted to make. Working full time developing my own games is my dream. I'm gonna do it, yes! No one will ever make anything similar. It will be fantastic, amazing, piece of art. And everyone will ban me for it, out of jealousy, like they did with Invader Attack 2! It will be me against the hordes of jealous zombies!

EDIT: PS: could you at least un-ban me from Reddit, I really want to spread the great news!

EDIT2: I'm so excited I already went twice to the loo to dump the load!

I think my Invaders-like game was WAAYYY better! :D

But CoderGames, let's make a competition out of this! You and me go and make the best vertical/horizontal shmup we can, and see whose game is better! And I'm talking about in EVERY category - gameplay, mechanics, powerups, scoring, music and graphics! I'm willing to go the whole 9 yards.

I'll give you until August 30th(50 days) to do it, just because you won't have a lot of time on your hands. Shmups in general are easy to make, making it good is what's gonna take the extra time. And we can have the active shmups community+any other community you want judge our projects in the above categories.

How about it? We can encourage each other to make the best game possible. No ifs, ands or buts! Sink or swim! :)

Sadly I already saw your game and if others think it's a great game, better than my Invader-like game then I'm done here, motivation all gone dude. You're all not being serious, just joking all the time, and I'm really serious all the time. Dude, WTF!?

EDIT: of course, let's do this, I was just joking. I'm working on it, it's already 0.5% completed! It's 100% complete inside my head though.

UPDATE: I managed to do a lot until this moment. I'm so great. Also, don't forget that I'm making a 3d game, so it will take more time than making a 2d game. But, coz of my awesome skills, it will take less than if someone else would do it. I succeed where others fail.

UPDATE2: I even amaze myself sometimes, that's how super I am.

Collision in classic shmups is very simple since there are no collisions between enemies and their own bullets. And it also simplifies the development since there's no physics either.

Anyway, work is progressing very well, I'm incredibly amazed with myself and amazing skills I possess. I got nothing to show, but will hopefully meet self-imposed-2-week deadline for prototype. There won't be any hud in the prototype or any indicators (you can imagine those on the bottom left and right side of the play area), but I'll try to develop most of core features. Anyway, if all gets well, I'm hoping to release an "early version" for all of you to support the game. It will be on my website for download and purchase, so make your wallets ready. That will be the day of truth, the crossroad, whether there will be enough of the support or not. Even if there's no support I will definitely finish the game one day, just not before my other projects.

I hope my competitor is not doing well. I'm sorry for saying that, but we autistic people with Assburger's syndrome are very competitive, so I can't help myself.

It doesn't exist in "classic shmups" because it's a bad idea, not because it's hard to do

Alos, start playing ultra street fighter IV if you're competitive person.

I didn't say it's hard to do, but it's more time consuming. It also puts less strain on the processing if there's no collision. In Invader Attack 2 the realism was the most important part, so everything collides with everything else and it brings extra scores and bonuses, especially if it was the player who outsmarted the enemies. That's kind of shmup I always wanted to play, but didn't exist.

What's Street Fighter IV has to do with anything?

Still having less collision cases to implement is not only less time consuming, but easier, much easier if there are many possible collision types.

Okay, could you stop bragging and calling yourself amazing? It really doesn't do you any good. I get that you're excited and proud of yourself, but it makes you look like a self absorbed jerk when you say it all the time.

Also, I know somebody who has aspergers (not spelled "assburgers") and he's a pretty nice guy, so you shouldn't use a mental disorder to explain why you're overly competitive.

What a dick you are, seriously. Asperger's (I was obviously joking when I said Assburger's) is a subset of autism spectrum. Spectrum means you're highly unlikely to encounter 2 persons who have the exact same autism. We are the next step of evolution, not mentally disordered. I already know that it's related to autism, and the fact that you're unlikely to encounter two people with the same type further disproves what you said earlier about everyone with aspergers and autism being more competitive.

Also, I'd just like to point out that calling me a dick and then referring to yourself and all other autistic people as superior doesn't really help your case. I don't care how good a game you make, you will never see a dime from me.

Hahaha! Wow. :)

I have Asperger's myself, and I'm pretty laid back. Being competitive comes from grasping "the competitive spirit" when you decide that you're tired of losing and focus on improving. I play Tekken Tag 2/Revolution on a regular basis. I can't wait to play USFIV.

But so far you're winning, if you actually have a working prototype. But don't count me out yet! My shmup is gonna use Unity, as I really want to make a good cross-platform shmup with good graphics to sell commercially as VR Vicious Reality is finally making some decent sales! But I'm learning how to use Unity first. And then I'm gonna start on creating the 3D pre-rendered graphics.
