Hate to say this, but join forums that are more universally accepted by both sexes. Shmups is a great forum but it hardly gets you women thick and fast, even if you 1cc Ketsui it won't win you many hearts. The other problem is that gaming by its very nature is admittance of self defeat in the love world (if its the only thing you are interested in).

Buy the cutest puppy and call it "Psycho", walk it down your local park with a pair of nifty head phones and watch for where girls sit. Before you know they will all be pointing at your dog saying how cute it is... Your dog is the diversion, the headphones suggest your not interested.. Your literally Solid Snake in stealth cock mode and they haven't even noticed. There you go, you've broken 10 layers of ice without even saying anything. If you get any bites give a picture of your dog to them and ask for a picture back, go to that park at the same time everyday.. Strike up conversation.

The art of finding a good woman is that your looking like your minding your own business.

Oh being somewhat spontaneous is helpful and so is a smile and always try to relate your conversation to theirs.

This is my way of being inventive and remember, most girls want to be found and wanted.

That reminds me of all the people who got married who met on that forum devoted to stalking Chris-chan.

"I met my husband chatting on an internet forum dedicated to stalking an autistic man."

Allegedly the female:male ratio there is extremely high.

I don't think I could ever have struck up a conversation strolling in the park that would have lead anywhere. As soon as you ask for a phone number rape alarm bells would start ringing. All those trees.

I feel weird and uncomfortable just thinking about it.

Comfort: that's really what it's all about. If you're relaxed and not trying too hard, the script often writes itself. Of course you need to put some effort in and get the ball rolling, but if it's with a group of friends, at a party, a slow burner at work everyday - whatever - it's not to difficult to make promising acquaintances.

BUT, my shot at wisdom: don't leave anything to fate, destiny and blind luck. If you live with a romantic notion that love will find you when it's ready, you need to be equally prepared to die a bachelor.

Nothing comes without practice. No-one 1cc'd a shmup without putting the hours in and learning a strategy they're comfortable with. Same with icebreakers and courtship. You fail loads, feel like giving up, come back stronger, clear the preliminaries, reach the TLB, deliver the payload. Smoke a cigarette and watch the credits.

And remember to wear a condom.

If all else fails convert to some religion that does fixed marriages.

When I was lost, I was thinking some such thing..."Why do I have to look around when Mr Mohammed down the road just got a sweet little virgin?"

Online dating is just another form of communication which brings out the irrational side in some of the idiots, much like those who'd try and poke fun at you for using MSN or ICQ in 1999, who now sit on Facebook ALL DAY. It's funny now that online dating is becoming increasingly mainstream here in the UK at least. We've had a Dawn Porter stylee CH4 TV show and the dating sites advertise on TV regularly, and now I often hear irrational people try to rationalise the stigma against and their treatment of anyone who was simply there first.
I don't see any difference to talking to humans online as off, regardless of their gender and I don't know why anyone would. I've had lots of fun seeing women I've met online, at work, in clubs or at after-parties. You know, those places where you meet other humans. Humans seem to give too much of a fuck what the other humans think, while the reality is that no one actually gives a fuck about you anyway, and if you were honest you'd accept that the majority of people are fucking retarded, so why give a flying fuck what they think. Everyone should chill the fuck out and stop looking for excuses to act the cunt, before I become so misanthropic I start picking people off for sport.

You know, I've always liked you. You're like my way more aggressive, far more direct partner in misanthropy.

I would not want to get involved with dating sites. I hate the internet, I hate internet people, it is a game of deception. You guys are cool though. I don't play online games anymore, my facebook page is barren, etc.
I prefer to go out and be friendly with people. I often meet cool people, guys, girls. My primary objective is to be social, have fun and entertain people. Occasionally I find a girl that I like and she likes me. If you go into real life situations looking for love it is more difficult. Just treat everyone you meet like they are your best guy friend. Go out with the objective of making friends.

With a dating site intentions are known, being successful on these sites has no correlation with being successful with people in person, it is a game, essentially. I also need to see a person in person to understand them and decide if I am attracted to them before there is any sort of commitment. Dating sites contradict my advice above which is much better.

I know people who have had success with these services and I think good for them but there are better ways to go about it in my opinion.

This is not NECESSARY, but when you want to segue the conversation and feel a little awkward about it, use this magic phrase:

"...excuse me if this sounds forward, but..."

It's like a drag chute for your confidence!

I said it earlier in the thread, and I'll say it again in greater detail. The thing I dislike about these dating sites is the lack of human connection. You're not meeting a pretty girl on the street and finding each other attractive by how you move, how you talk, how you smell, what your energy feels like, etc. Some computer script is nudging you toward each other's canned greeting based on some arbitrary metric. And who is the psychological genius who programmed this metric? Is it really so goddamned important that she share my views on gun control, computer?

All this talk made me start an OKCupid account out of curiosity. It yelled at me for saying too many of its inane questions were irrelevant, then asked me for specifics on my masturbation routine. I took a break from the questions and looked at my matches. I couldn't believe there were this many ugly women in my city! Then I saw a banner on top offering the ability to filter for attractiveness (how?) if I join their premium paid service.

Account deleted.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

I think most people with half a brain can understand the limitations and work within them until they actually meet up in person. There is an understanding between parties involved that there may be no physical attraction or chemistry upon contact and we all know and accept how that may manifest itself ie you may never hear from me again or I may contact you after the date to let you know that it wasn't working for me. Luckily for me, this hasn't been the case. I look like my photo, I don't dress like a weeaboo, do cosplay, am an interesting motherfucker with a decent sense of humour and I don't have an online 'persona.' It's been a really positive experience for me and I'd continue with it should the relationship I'm currently in fuck up somehow.

The OKCupid matching minigame is a waste of time if you don't find it fun, definitely. 95% of the time the "answers I'll accept" are "any", and it's all like "but if you don't care about anything, we can't match you!" and it's like "then maybe ask a question that matters to anybody..."

The metrics I use is: Use the interests search feature. Investigate profiles with acceptable attractiveness. If the written portion of the test was filled out half-way competently, attempt to establish contact. Basic literacy and interest on both ends results in a ridiculously above-average response rate.

But like what's his face mentioned above, creepy nerd girls are a scarce commodity, like leprechaun gold, and are fiercely fought over. Assuming one would ever live within 100 miles of me. Which they would not. This place is terrible to live in.

Let's talk about the ever-reliable "Magic the gathering" search term. Always a good metric to meet other sperglords by. On Plenty of Fish, the current results for 18 to 40 year olds:

Hetero/bisexual women: 321
Homo/biseuxal men: 82

Since gay men make up about 3.3% of the male population, they're over represented here by a factor of about 8. So the conclusion that can be drawn is either men or gay men are more likely to use internet dating sites than straightish women, or that women don't care that much for Magic the Gathering.

Which is profoundly unfair since it's basically a BryanM cheatcode to root out interesting [s]people[/s] nerds.
