CONGRATULATIONS! ^_^
Hmmm... not bad ^_^NTSC-J wrote:The 2-2 boss ate me alive.

I'm guessing by your score and stage position you finished the first loop with about 8 to 8.5mil, right?
At any rate, I've got a bit of work to do to recapture the top spot ^_-
Yeah, that was the first time I've been to the boss, and was completely unprepared for the attacks, and suffered a pretty quick death. I think I can manage to get back to the boss okay, barring any mishaps and really stupid deaths along the way.NTSC-J wrote:Icarus, the last boss is probably the easiest in the game. The most obvious holes ever, I'm sure after a couple tries you'll see what I mean.
I'd LOVE to see stage 2-5. Not gonna happen though ^_-SiKrAiKeN wrote:Yeah, it's quite a relief after going through 2-5 and then being able to play an easy boss, although it is disappointing because I thought the game would atleast finish off with something impossibly difficult...
If I'm having a really bad playing day, I tend to experiment with my credits instead, testing out strategies and observing the game and its systems. Usually when I deviate from a gameplan, I try out new methods to see if they work, and they often result in the discovery of tricks and secrets that can be used in play.Shatterhand wrote:How the heck did you finish level 1 with more than 1 million? Geez, I wonder how you guys discover so many scoring methods...
In this case, I'll give you a hint: BLUE BULLETS ^_-
To use another example, Mode7 once commented on a Dodonpachi Daioujou strat thread that "If you're chaining, you're surviving". In many games, it's not a bad idea to concentrate on manipulation of the scoring system, as long as you take care in creating a route that also lets you survive the stage as well. I've seen several different Daioujou stage1 replays of a full chain and each of them play differently - some aggressive, some defensive, some all over the place, some very mechanical-like - and it depends on the style of the player and how they fit scoring in with a working survival route.Shatterhand wrote:I really suck at playing games that I have concentrate in something to make good scores. I always pay too much attention in whatever the heck I have to do to score, and I end up losing focus in doding.
Play to survive first, and once you are comfortable with a stage and it's boss, start to work in scoring methods.
If I could offer a little tip in this case: do not look at enemies when you are in-stage. The best way to play Cyvern is to understand how your Banish and Shot attacks move, in Ferious' case, it's Shot travels straight up and narrow, and the Banish is a Laser-type attack that can move to a set angle to the left and right. Knowing how your Banish moves and by how much of an angle is key to better play, as you can then quickly glance around the screen to judge enemy locations to your Cyvern and adjust for maximum Banish effect.Shatterhand wrote:I've managed to die at level 1 once with just ONE bullet at screen, because I was banishing ground enemies, looking only to them, and ended up running into the bullet because I wasn't paying attention to nothing else

Can I ask why my score is is at #6 when I'm clearly above all those people?Ramus wrote:Code: Select all

I'm pretty sure it was ~8.7mil when the last boss went down (it gives you close to a million when you banish it, so you're pretty much guaranteed a spare fighter for the loop). I had 3 lives when I got to the 2-2 boss and he still creamed me.Icarus wrote:Hmmm... not bad ^_^

This was only the second time I've made it to 1-5 and I had little difficulties. 1-4 still makes me nervous, though...
Sven666 - 3,890,860 - Ferious - 1-4 - PCB
heres my new score and correct HS table input.
only got 400K on 1st level
but kept going anyways.. so theres atleast 500K easy points to get on that..

I think you're more than capable of doing it, especially because of how far you've gotten already. It isn't that much more of a push, believe me.NTSC-J wrote:I'd LOVE to see stage 2-5. After two nights worth of failed credits failing at the stage 1-4 boss, my second return to stage5 sees me make it to the loop for the first time ^_^
(Thanks for the advice on the stage5 boss. It is a bit of a cakewalk if you take out the right turrets first. The fast bullet sweep still got one of my Extends, though.)
Icarus - 10,578,480 - Ferious - 2-2 - MAME

Ended the first loop with about 9.2mil. Dropped my Medals values no less than four times from stage 4 to the stage5 boss. Got the brown version of the stage 2-1 boss instead of the higher scoring red version (thankfully, as I wouldn't have lasted if I had the red one). The stage 2-2 boss took out all three of my spare Extends >_<#
Just a few thousand behind you, NTSC-J. Watch your back ^_-

I'm going to concede this one. As good as the game is, there are some things that are far too frustrating to deal with, such as bullets that don't move in the direction you expect (stage2 boss 3way missile), bullets that are virtually instant hit (stage4 laser tanks), patterns that appear right in front of your nose (stage4 boss)...
Had a pretty awful day, all credits ending at the stage4 boss or stupidly in stage5.
Well played everyone.

The stage 2 boss 3-way missile's suffer occasionally from horizontal scrolling issues. They seem to function on a different plane. I've had times when I would be trying to move left/right and no matter what, they stayed in line with me because of background scroll or something.Icarus wrote:I'm going to concede this one.
