Hey everyone, it's been a while!

Well, a month of playing Great Fairy Wars has come down to this... As of today, I've beaten Great Fairy Wars on Lunatic mode for the 1st time ever! I've been playing this for about month now, more-or-less, and now, it's come down to this very moment...

I would like to thank Chum and Zil (I know Zil's not around here no more (I hope he comes back someday)) but I still want to thank him, even if he doesn't know about it) for helping me out in me getting this 1st ever clear on Lunatic mode. Your replays and your appearances in STG weekly for Great Fairy Wars helped me out a lot in understanding Great Fairy Wars, me thinking to give this game a 2nd, and this time, honest, chance, and me starting to clear this game on lower difficulties. If it weren't for you guys, it would've taken me a while longer, and me still being rather nervous about playing this game. I would also like to thank Jonst and LordHypnos for cheering me on during my adventure with this game! Little did you know that hearing from you two really did encourage me to do better, and for that, I wanted to thank you two as well! Let's not forget Despatche, as well, and a lot of other great STG players, here and elsewhere! Let's not forget that there's a lot of other great STG players, here and elsewhere, that I would like to thank! You're a big inspiration to me, whether you know it or not! All of you guys are great!

Several months ago, and even earlier, this game used to beat the crap out of me so bad, that there was a point, where I kind of avoided playing this game for a while. After improving my skills a bit (Beating Subterranean Animism on normal mode helped a lot, as well as beating a few other Touhou games on Hard mode, and watching that episode about Great Fairy Wars on STG weekly eased me a lot, to where I started to play this game rather extensively, and well... It all led to this great moment.

This makes Great Fairy Wars the 2nd Touhou game I've beaten on Lunatic mode! I beat it on route C-2, apparently the easiest route of them all for that particular mode. I guess it can only get better from here. Now, I just need to beat Marisa, and it's going to get really good! It's not completely over yet for me with this game, but this is a huge milestone for me! As to where I'm going to go from here, well, let's just see (Well, I'm also working on Shoot the Bullet (8 scenes left), as well as Perfect Cherry Blossom and Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, and there's also Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta!, so those ones are immediately near my proximity).

Hey, congratulations on getting that 2-All Omote for Ketsui, Bananamatic! I know I saw your post this a couple days ago, but I didn't say much, since I wanted to do something big before coming back here to post a great achievement. I'm not surprised you'd accomplish this, since I've been familiar about you for quite a long time, and I know you as being one of Zengeku's friends. You guys are incredible, and are among those that have inspired me!

I always think that if people are pleased enough with themselves and achieved whatever it was they were going for and posted in this thread,then it should recognised and praised.It actually bugs me when people mention a 1cc and then play it down,like it was crap or barely worth mentioning...(this should be in the little things that annoy thread!) if people bothered to post it then,secretly,they were pleased with themselves! It also nice to get that acknowledgement.I know I feel good when I post an achievement like this and the congrats come in,it feels awesome! Everyone should be made to feel awesome at some point!

Anyways,purple keep up the good work.my own progress with anything is on hold right now due to a number of factors,but hope I can post something here in the not too distant future,in the meantime I always like to see what everyone else has done in this particular thread!

IMO If you can make it past stage 3/4 of Mars Matrix, you can probably 1cc every Windows Touhou on at least normal lol.

Congrats Pteri and Purple, I haven't actually tried any of my 2hus on hard, haven't really played any of them all that much.

I've been too obsessed with screaming curses at Super Darius II lately to play much else. I've gotten to the final stage plenty of times, but I always die and power down before getting there because of the kind of bullshit zako swarms that never stop shooting at you. Christ, even the arcade version doesn't do that! Still much easier overall though, hopefully I'll get my "I did it!" soon.

Ahaha, hey, thanks everyone! Sorry I responded a little late, been having to deal with the last week of summer school right now (One more test next tuesday, and then I'm completely free, with no more distractions).

Yeah, I actually picked what's apparently the easiest route to do on Lunatic mode for GFW, so I went with that. As I mentioned, there's actually plenty to do still in GFW, so I'm going to try to do some of the other routes on Lunatic mode, and yeah, Marisa's a pretty tough Extra)stage boss, I guess they don't call her one of the hardest extra stage bosses in the Touhou games for nothing. A big thing thing I'm going to try to do is get my 1st ever LNB (Lunatic No Bombs, or I call it Lunatic No Bombs ) and with this game, and how far I've come with it, this could be my best chance, so I'll let you know how it goes. I'll... do my best, along with a few other STG goals I have in-mind besides GFW (I'll let you all know, when they come, of course).

Putting that aside, hey Jonst, as LordHypnos said, there's nothing wrong with congratulating people more than 1cc's, because, hey, you never know, recognising others may just get them to try even harder, or, you know, something like that. Your next 1cc's will come in time, just keep at it, and you'll get it! When there's a will, there's a way!

Also, about Touhou on normal mode, I'd say, yeah, with a little effort, you'll be fine with most of the Touhou games. Maybe Subterranean Animism and Undefined Fantastic Object might require a bit more effort for normal mode, but overall, I think one's pretty set (Azinth's sig is a pretty good start, I think) for it, and even more so, if you've been playing other STGs for a while, to where one can go for the harder difficulties pretty quickly, yeah. (Great Fairy Wars can be intimidating at first, but once you know Cirno's freeze mechanics well enough, and know the patterns the Three Fairies of Light throw at you, as well as how to milk certain places, it's not actually not that bad. It depends a bit on what route do you take)

Yeah, for you LordHypnos and ACseraph, of whom both of you have done incredible feats in your respective games (Man, I can't wait for Caladrius Blaze to be released for the PS3! >.< (Good luck on Super Darius II, Seraph! If you can do Caladrius the way you did, then I think you'll be fine ) Also, yeah, I should try out Mars Matrix, whenever I do get a Dreamcast, which is hopefully soon in the near future), it'll be cake, no doubt! I think you'll get more out of the Touhou games by playing on the harder difficulties, I'd venture to say, for your skill sets. In-fact, if you want LordHypnos, I can actually give you the ropes a bit on some of the Touhou games on normal, if you like. I've seen you talk about Mountain of Faith before, and you mentioning some trouble with certain parts, and I actually have a decent understanding of some of the patterns there, so I could give you some tips, if you like. We could talk about it on PM or at the strategy section. I'll do my best to help out!

And lastly, great job Pteriforever! I haven't played much Double Dealing Character yet (I only played it once so far ) but I know I'm fixing to give it a real play at some point, since some of the shot-types are really cool! Planning to give Lunatic mode a shot sometime soon?

Yeah, I reckon I probably could clear some 2hus with a little practice. I mean, I've definately noticed myself getting better casually playing shmups recently (especially since getting to S5 in Mars Matrix). The only thing stopping me is that I'm too involved with Mars Matrix to put in that amount of effort. lol. BTW, I totally managed to make it to stage 6 today, which I'm feeling pretty good about (Note: slightly on topic!)

The main thing that I was having trouble with in GFW, many moons ago when I first tried it was the number of buttons and the fact that it had two different focus buttons that I needed to switch between. Otherwise I liked a lot about it. There are even some minor similarities to Mars Matrix if you do end up playing that ever, PTG. But with MM you have one button (two if you're using auto on the Piercing cannon) and none of the patterns are designed to require focus to dodge, wheras in GFW you need to focus a lot. I definately like how many different routes there are as well as the short length of the game, total. Also the freeze mechanic is really cool and original

The main thing that was getting me in Mountain of Faith was specific psych out patterns (that were actually really easy), some of the later patterns (especially starting on the stage 3 boss on normal), and remembering to bomb (which is probably the single largest barrier to me in shmups, lol). I actually tried a credit of it the other day, and I didn't have too much of a problem with the psych out patterns, but the fact that I hadn't played it in like a month and thus lost most of my familiarity with the first couple stages, and the harder patterns ended up killing me. Also I've gotten significantly worse at panic bombing since starting to focus on Mars Matrix really in depth. hahaha. Last time I played easy mode MOF, I made it to the final boss (mostly blind), so maybe I'll try that again, sometime soon. We'll see how my improved dodging skills and worse bombing skills change the outcome

Anyway, sorry for the off topic, but I didn't feel like it was worth PMing anyone over. I'll definately contact you (PTG) if I ever need some specific touhou advice, thanks

Hmm, cool to hear! Yeah, for me, I play GFW using a gamepad, so it makes it easier for me to switch between focus and rapid fire the way the game works, so it's an idea you could possibly consider, though, of course, it's doable with keyboards and whatnot, that's just me using gamepads for this one. I'm a bit of a gamepad person, lol, though I'm rather competent on keyboards.

Well, hey, at the moment, you mentioned focusing mainly on Mars Matrix (I see you making steady progress over time), and I'd say, from my own experience, if you get far enough in a game, I would go for broke, since it probably wouldn't make much sense to leave out when you're so close, so yeah, take your time with Mars Matrix indeed, LordHypnos. I'm looking forward to, one day, hearing you finally getting your 1cc of Mars Matrix! You're getting close!

Yeah,genesis to you guys! It's kind of a "filler clear" Like I say I'm enjoying the break from the other stuff (ketsui & ud).
I'll add more stuff to my clear list in time,even though I've always played shmups,I've only really been playing them seriously for about 4 years...so,I'm happy with what I've done so far.

Me too, and there's nothing wrong with it. I can use a stick quite well and often do at the arcade, but at home it's always a pad. Those Caladrius runs were all done on a pad for example. Just use what's most comfortable for you.

Dang, that's incredible (For lack of better words), Softdrink 117, 1-ccing Ketsui in front of a crowd, then proceeding to go into the Omote loop for the 1st time ever, and going pretty far for a 1st time, in front of a crowd still! Man, if I were to play in front of people, I know I'll be nervous as heck, and I'd be quite likely to mess up, so major props, indeed! Hopefully, soon enough, I'll get to play Ketsui myself, and we'll see how that goes for me!

Yeah, hearing that makes me wish I was able to go to this year's Anime Expo! I went last year, and that's only because a group of my friends I see at the arcade all the time in my place were going, to where costs were split, and I actually had enough to actually go with them. It'll be a while, before another opportunity like that shows up again for me, or something similar. Hopefully, I'll get to go again at some point in the future (I don't know when), and maybe meet you guys, along with a lot of other great STG players from everywhere, someday! By then, hopefully I'll have gotten a lot better at the STG genre than I am right now, to where I can return the favour back in respect, when that happens!

I pulled off two little accomplishments in the last few days.

In Ketsui, while practicing stage 3, I finally got up to the boss without dying or using any bombs, and then beat the boss with no deaths and one bomb. Unfortunately, my average attempt on stage 3 still isn't near this level, and although I have reached stage 4 a few times, I've decided to just continuously practice stage 3 until I can reliably no-miss no-bomb up to the boss before I start doing full runs again.

In Espgaluda, I limped my way into 5-2. I barely beat the 5-1 boss by unloading every bomb and gem I had on her, though, so I haven't learned that fight much at all. I did make it a fair bit into 5-2 before losing my last life, at least.

Hey LordHypnos, I knew you could do it, especially since you got pretty far in Mars Matrix! It's a start, at least. There's really no shame in starting at easy mode. One's always got to start somewhere. You could think of it this way: It's the start of something bigger Plus, I've heard that scoring in Mountain in Faith at easy mode is a lot of fun to do, as with the other modes, of course, so that can be an interesting thing to look into!

Just curious: Have you thought of doing MoF in practice mode using no bombs? It's a pretty effective way to practice MoF, and it gets you to actually get used to deal with the interesting patterns MoF throws at you, and the patterns in MoF can be interesting to dodge, so it stiffens you up.
