Trying to install Xbox 360 controllers to Win 8 laptop
So I'm late to the party to install Streets of Rage Remake v5 on my Windows 8 Envy laptop. I'd love to use my Xbox 360 wired controller. It makes that USB connect tone when I connect the controller, but nothing. I may have the wrong driver...I don't know...Any help, please? SoRR v5 looks incredible!

Just so we can nip this one early. The controller, you say it's wired yes and it's not the play and charge kit with the removable cable correct?

Yes sir, it's the wired one. Maybe even the first generation wired 360 controllers. The thing is, my computer would recognize and test it just fine from the devices window test (also a wired Street Fighter 4 pad I have) but when it comes to booting up the game, no response. And controller settings from the game I downloaded only offers 2 controller settings.

Are you making sure the controller is plugged in before opening the game? Some games won't detect the controller if you plug it in while it's running. You might want to check microsoft update and see if there is an updated driver.

Does the game even support XInput?

Yes, I'm making sure it's connected before loading up SoRR v5. And I've seen posts of people playing it with the 360 controllers. Would I be better off getting PC controllers instead of putting up with this headache?

I've used my 360 controller for SoRR and didn't have any issues.
Is the controller working fine for other software?

SoRR is the only game I have on my laptop, so I don't have any other games try it out with. It's just funny how it tests perfectly but just won't work with the game...

An Xbox 360 controller is the PC controller of today. You can get some controllers that can switch between XInput and Directinput, but XInput is the much improved standard and what you want to use if possible.

This is actually incorrect, in almost every way XInput is less capable than DirectInput, except that now it's pretty much standard, so only for compatibility reasons is it better.bobrocks95 wrote:XInput is the much improved standard

Re: Trying to install Xbox 360 controllers to Win 8 laptop
Looks like I needed to re-read the Wikipedia page on it. DirectInput supports much more buttons and axes, but analog triggers act as a single axis and there is no vibration support. So it seems like a kind of give and take.shmuppyLove wrote:This is actually incorrect, in almost every way XInput is less capable than DirectInput, except that now it's pretty much standard, so only for compatibility reasons is it better.
EDIT: Whoops, wrong again, that's just an Xbox 360 controller using DirectInput drivers. So they purposely gave it poor DirectInput drivers to push XInput for whatever reason. Which is a load of BS.

You can try these http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-gb ... or-windows
Worth a shot, though, I've never seen Windows not recognise the controller at all, drivers updated or not.
The Windows 7 drivers work on 8 too.

Re: Trying to install Xbox 360 controllers to Win 8 laptop
Stupid me, I figured it out...while taking a dump no less (with laptop on lap). It was the game. In the controllers options screen, I had to press enter and it gives you keyboard/gamepad options. Dammit, after I bought a Logitech PC controller, too, which I didn't end up needing. Thank you all for your time in responding! I am not immensely enjoying this awesome game! Sega needs to make this game official somehow...I'd pay $50 for an official release!
