What [not shmup] game are you playing now?

Anything from run & guns to modern RPGs, what else do you play?

Type-0 still, really worth the wait for the translation IMO. Stopped playing Tales of Innocence, didn't quite like the storyline, but the battle system was neat, so i'll probably try to pick it up again in the near future.
I picked up Pokemon X again to do some stuff.

I gave it a whirl when it came out. There's just too much crap on the screen at one time. All cluttered and overly busy.

Some of the bits on the system and influences worry me, and I don't like the designer's background. If they manage to do something like M&B but nicer, it would be great, but I have more hopes in Bannerlord than that. Hope they prove me wrong, though!

Played through Shovel Knight on the Steam version yesterday (single playthrough only so far). Highly enjoyed it - no disagreements with Moniker above, the game was solid all through. I was pleasantly surprised to see an online acquaintance of mine in the credits! Turned out he did an internship providing some art assets for the game. Don't know if I'll end up taking it seriously as a speedgame (I love my X1 way too much to accept any substitute) but I don't regret the purchase at all.

Trying to play Alien 3 (Game Boy) and I can't seem to make any progress. Got a hint I should find the key, but the only crates I've found don't seem interactive. Not giving up yet as the game looks the way I like my games played on small screens (that micro-pixel art makes room for some superb detail). The library being my example of choice.

Getting back into Skyrim on the X360
Want to finish this one up, even if it means abandoning the side quests for a bit to get the main quest out of the way.

Playing NG+ on Shovel Knight (WiiU).

You take double damage, you only get 2 checkpoints per stage, and there're no health drops. Brings it more in line w/ MM10's difficulty. Really enjoying it.

After that, debating what voluntary challenge I'll take up first. Probably limited health rather than lack of relics, although both will be interesting. I make pretty heavy use of the fire wand, and to a lesser extent, phasing at the moment. Don't really mess with the other stuff too much, but the flying spear (or whatever it's called) is pretty interesting. I wonder if gadgeteer playthroughs are possible.

Who likes the name "Mighty No. 9" better than "Shovel Knight"?
(Playable characters in both look equally ho-hum to me, but I haven't seen either in motion.)

It kind of sounds like NG+ is what Shovel Knight should have been from the start. I'm a little interested in the game, but it (the first playthrough, at least) seems kind of limp.

The first playthrough isn't exactly "limp," but you can definitely muscle your way through it. As I've noted before, you can enforce your own level of difficulty by destroying checkpoints, rejecting upgrades, and the like. But I won't disagree; NG+ is the way it ought to be played, if you're playing it straight.

There are actually quite a bit of cheat codes you can enter when starting a new file. I'm pretty sure there is an instant New Game+ option among them. There is even a one-hit KO cheat for a real challenge.

And yes, I've been playing SK since its release and it's probably the most fun I've had since Dark Souls. The level design really starts to shine once you start going for the fastest routes.

Nuclear Throne

Just picked this up after watching a number of Let's Plays for it. Not sure why I waited so long, I'm quiite enjoying it in spite of the very random difficulty depending a lot on whatever weapons happen to show up and what you end up spawned next to. Makes for a good "pick up and play for a few minutes" type game, much like a lot of the other Vlambeer stuff.

Fun fact - in the original Bomberman on Game Boy (a port of the NES port I believe), with four bombs or so on Bonus Stages, explosions can be chained 'till the time's out.*) Walking anywhere with the button pressed down is enough to make it happen. Since Bonus Stages can't be played wrong any way you slice it, I don't consider it game-breaking, just amusing.
I mean the game disguised as one of the Dynablaster/Bomber Boy/Atomic Punk modes (named Game B/Bomber Man there).
I'm afraid continuing don't take away points already earned, but not sure about it. I could use a detailed comparison of the game's all 8-bit versions.

*) Without a hint of slowdown at that, sprite limit be praised. Almost like Recca.

Tried pushing my way through the new Strider game (I bought it when it came out, but then life got busy), but ultimately the game is a drag. Too much backtracking, too much fluff, pacing is really horrible and the game mechanics are really uninteresting. I understand the problem developers have in justifying an arcade style game for consoles, and the shift to a metroid-style game makes some sense, but given how little the game really has to offer, I am finding myself unable to stay interested in the game. ZZZzzzzzz.

Have been messing around with bayonetta lately. I continue to be terrible at it, but those moments when you manage to read everything, weave through all the attacks and then punish...! I can play the same level over and over and over and it doesn't really get old. Assuming most would agree this is one of the best titles from this current generation.

Shadow Dancer [Genesis].
so, this is what I get for not playing in forever
repeated worthless "why am I even dying here" deaths in stage 1-2 made me almost throw my PSP at a wall
oh, and apparently I forgot how the 1-3 boss works again, but that's always felt like a mildly random affair [where sometimes, you will simply get fucked if you don't bomb] compared to the strictly deterministic stages

I'll probably get to 4-2 again in half an hour of refreshing myself. But it's annoying as fuck when you get caught on silly things you could actually do without even thinking before.

edit: I'm back to 3-1, but just turned off my PSP after one of the dumbest deaths I've had since I've started playing this game.

OK I'm pissed.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 7 for the last 2.5 months.... got right up to the final battle w/Sephiroth, saved before the battle, in case I die.

I die.

Go to load.... all I get is a 'File is Ruined' error code, EVERY TIME I try to load.

Normally I'd have 2-3 save files going, but I only had one block on the memory card left, and didn't feel like hunting down a new first party card, so my only save file.... all 57 hours of it, seems to be gone...

I quite enjoyed how easy it was to break the game with the KOTR and Mime-Counter materia combination by the end...

Still wish I could have seen it through.

Just finished Half-Life 2. First FPS post-2002 I've played. Didn't like it as much as the first, a lot of the levels were boring and dragged too long.

If you had KOTR you can be 100% sure you were going to steamroll the final boss. Go ahead and watch the ending on youtube without shame.

That's exactly how I felt when I played Half-Life 1. Never understood the massive hype for the series.

Yeah, KOTR one-shots Sephy, and one of them can even come close to taking down his 2nd form, with a weak party, and with him casting Wall. Hojo is harder imo.

... and, I just hit G-Rank in Monster Hunter 3U. Also finally not feeling like total shit for the first time in a while, pretty neat.

You could download an FF7 save from GameFAQs as well, and either use it on an emulator, or transfer it to a physical memory card with a DexDrive.
