Best Nomad replacement LCD?

Post by cr4zymanz0r »

I confident in doing the work to install a new LCD screen in my nomad, but I'm a little unsure about if I can use pretty much any 3.5" LCD I see on ebay, or what the "best" one is.

I commonly see this LCD listed in guides: http://www.dx.com/p/3-5-lcd-rear-view-t ... ntsc-20415
However, I see various other 3.5" LCD screens on ebay for around $20. Another gripe I have with this screen is it (and most Nomad LCD mods i see) shows "AV1" in the top right of the screen for a few seconds once the Nomad is powered on. Some people probably consider that minor and maybe it is, but it just irks me :P. I'd like to avoid it if possible.

I also only see these mods using LCDs that use composite video. Are there any others that can use s-video or RGB? I realize composite on that small of a screen won't be a huge deal, but I'm curious if anyone knows of alternatives.

So basically, anybody know of a good replacement LCD that's confirmed to not have the annoying "AV1" display when powering up?

I modded mine using such a screen, mine doesn't show the input when turned on; but it was bought around 3 years ago.

It has a 1 frame delay against the video out, can't tell against the original one since I had to replace it because mine was not working properly. It is composite, and although I am not completely happy with that since it shows some of the typical composite artifacts when using taxing patterns with the 240p suite, it does remarkably better with battery use and backlit.

It terms of overscan, it is almost pixel perfect for the 320x224 resolution inside the Nomad frame. It just bites on 2 pixels in 240p, one on each side. Top and bottom have none at all.

I am sure I'd love an RGB or s-video solution if available.

I looked into this a while ago - some LCDs bought after the infamous "AV1" batch didn't have the display. But I don't recall if these were actually RGB (which of course would be best).
