Strange image with xrgb3 and shvc-010 cable

Post by gompertz »

Hi all, I recently purchased a xrgb3 used online and a new shvc-010 cable to use with my modded snes mini. I am getting a strange picture, as seen below, and also get it with my original snes first edition (where the rgb was enabled at the factory). If I switch the xrgb-3 from Game In to Video In 1, I seem to get a legible picture but it doesn't seem all much better than normal composite cables - lots of interference/noise (actually baffled anything shows at all given all I have connected to the xrgb3 is the SHVC-010 cable to the Game In port!). Did the original owner of the xrgb3 maybe blow the Game In port by possibly using a euro scart? Any ideas what's happening? thanks.

You got leaky 220uf caps in your SHVC-010 cable. It is a common issue. Opening the cable is an absolute bitch, but can be done if you persist.

Best bust it open as soon as possible and clean up the leaked liquid, since it is corrosive, then replace the three caps and you are good to go.

Okay, breaking the housing open is certainly one way of doing it. But there was also the more elegant approach of unscrewing the base.

Make sure you get small sized 220uf caps though.
