Slap Fight MD - TOAPLAN Mode

Post by BIL »

As you may know, Slap Fight MD's shield normally never times out. This is an annoying blemish on an otherwise stellar package, since besides making things too comfy, that beeping was clearly never meant to be heard for extended periods (even worse, it cramps the killer Koshiro original BGM). Having noticed something about a "shield timer config" option in Slap Fight MD's Wikipedia entry, I went digging... courtesy of GameFAQs, salvation has arrived! Press A+B+C at the Options menu to enter Toaplan mode (you can also do it again to exit). Now the shield will time out just like in the arcade version!

^ thanks!

It also expands the difficulty selection with a range of "NormalX" settings where X is the digit of your choice - I guess this may be the shield timing config wiki mentions, but I've not bothered with it yet. EDIT: nope, it's a loop select with "x" the starting loop of choice.

Wikipedia & GameFAQs, invaluable tools for the hardcore shooter fan. ^_~

Agreed.

They're kinda overlooked but in the end you'll always find something useful.

Heh, pretty neat stuff. Just tried it - the shield beep however isn't that hard on ears... And since things can become pretty harsh quickly, I'm not sure I'll stay away of the comfy route :)

It works on both Arcade and Special mode... Thus making arcade mode very close to original coin-op experience!

I think Arrange ver + Toaplan mode is the great original console STG they never got to make. ^__^ Typhoon Bomb is immensely satisfying.

Definitely, top quality stuff. Here I am hoping that at least two of these three soundtracks (arrange and special, of course) will make their way on some CD sooner or later... Instead of you know, republishing Revenge of Shinobi music for the nth time. :)

By the way: you must highlight "exit" on the option mode in order to trigger it correctly.

Thanks, updated the OP!

It's not quite the same of course, but there is a pretty nice direct from console lossless gamerip of all three soundtracks online - google Iron Goat Slap Fight MD. He's done some really good MD ones; besides SFMD I keep his Gauntlet, Verytex, Midnight Resistance and Bad Omen rips on hand for regular blasting. Sexy sexy Sakimoto & Iwata!

Sweet! :D

Sure, if any of them would find their way over the second volume of this, I'd be a happy fellow. ^_^

Zanac OST too (couldn't have found a decent rip some time ago) and Task Force Harrier EX OST - the latter being one decent thing that port did, everybody should listen to it. About the only shmup music resembling Gun Frontier OST to me.
