Anyone collect vintage CRT TV's ?

What I really hate, is when I see these things on the curb side. Because everybody is too stupid, to get a tuner, they are going to deposit tax, for a flatscreen that just sucks. Is their any flatscreen out their that gives fulls enjoyment from the side view???

I think you need to do a bit more research on modern televisions.

Managed to find this 1976 Toshiba Blackstripe C355C 13" Color TV.
I Bought it at an estate sale in February 2014. i already have a mint red cabinet of this same set, but I said what the heck ! Too rare to pass up !
It is in real nice shape, a bit yellowed ontop because the owner had a 1980's Samsung cable box on it (which I took as well)
The set also came with the pedestal and owners manual.

I just bought a Sony 14" CRT New old stock still boxed for £25.

Here's my 1969 Sony Trinitron model KV-1210U CRT TV. It was one of Sony's first ever Trinitron sets they made. I found this in my local Kijiji Toronto classifieds for $30.00 February 2014. It still works and looks like new ! The picture quality is simply amazing !
Made in Japan.
MSRP was $319.95 in 1969

Yours is an even lower serial # than the first one. According to that page, serial numbers reach at least nearly 150,000. However, the sticker on yours has me wondering if the serial number is not just for the NA/CA region.

Hard to believe it, but there's actually one vacuum tube in that set.

The 1210 does indeed use a HV rectifier tube.

A little 'dirty' secret of the TV industry is that many early 'SS' sets had tube HV rectifiers in them. Tubes were cheaper, and some of the early SS HV diodes were quite failure prone...IIRC some SS sets into the early 80's still had HV rect tubes in them.

IIRC the early Quasars and the RCA 2000 had issues with the SS HV rectifiers, and Quasar actually switched back to tubes for a while to deal with it.

Not to mention that apparently the tube designs could still be more compact than the SS sets - an interesting factoid I did not know.

Edit: I have a question now: Do you know what the XBR is in this post? Don't have a tapeheads account...might need to make one and ask...probably quite old but I love the styling on that one.

From the look of the bezel, it's a Sony KV25XBR, built in 1984 or 1985.

Interesting adapter - wonder if it would allow a modern PC to run on Sony sets with that particular plug. Seems doubtful though. Not likely to be useful for gaming, but still interesting.

Picked up this little 1975 JVC Model 3020 Portable recently.
It is a 5" black and white set with blue cabinet. It also came in red.
This also has a battery compartment on the bottom that uses 9 D Cell battery.

Yes, you can tell from the scattering around the edges of the windowsills, and the long shadow lines...would be rather troublesome (and probably expensive) to set up a studio light to mimic that effect.

Picked up this set today.
It is a 1972 Panasonic TR-542AC B&W TV. This was the first TV made with touch sensing ON/OFF power swtich. very nice Space age red cabinet design.
Made in Japan.
Found it locally from the original owner. Also came with all manuals.

It's interesting that they were using thermal touch switches at such an early date. Today you can put somebody in front of one of these and they'll still try to hard-press it like a bubble membrane switch, and they're still somewhat exotic.

Managed to save this one from the garbage. Brought it home, cleaned it up, plugged it in and works like new ! It has a few scratches here and there but nothing too visible. Love the fake woodgrain.lol

It is made in Singapore in 1987.
Anyone have any info on it ?

Here is my 1976 Electrohome Model C24-301 Color TV.
Got it for $5 bucks at a garage sale. Work perfect.
It's made in Japan, I think by Panasonic for Canadian market.

Picked this up this week.
1976 RCA model CA 097A 9 inch TV
These small sets came with a battery pack in the bottom that holds 2 large batteries. The front plexi cover comes off.
These came in yellow, red, and white cabinets.
Made in Taiwan.
