Balotelli is an amusing character and I like that in sport, but he's also a complete twat.

Scores goals though, that's what matters.

C.Rica making Italy look positively geriatric at the moment, and they should have had a penalty to accompany the first half goal. The referee was a total clown not to give that, and I have a feeling he'll pay for it with his career prospects.

Wouldn't have expected Spain and Italy to be made to look pedestrian this World Cup, but there you go. Tournament of surprises so far.
France vs Switzerland should be good.

Lately I've been doing some localization testing on an app for Eurosport right now. It's interesting to see the stark contrast between how the different languages cover the Italy-Costa Rica game (paraphrasing a bit):

UK: "Costa Rica Knocks England Out" (followed by half a zillion stories about whether or not they're going to fire their coach)
German: "Shocker! Costa Rica Beats Italy!"
Italian: "Disastro Italia! Italy Loses!" (they can technically still get in if they win their remaining group stage game)
French: "Um, we're playing a game here today too, you know..."
Spanish: (Still busy with weeping, wailing and teeth-gnashing over getting knocked out by Chile two days ago, stick the Italy-Costa Rica game somewhere below the fold)
We want you, save our planet!

The hell is going on with this game. Switzerland's playing well, but it's already down three goals?? I'm sad

Defensive calamity. The second goal in particular was a huge error of judgement which Benzema capitalised on and Matuidi took very well. Switzerland could have easily been down five by now.

They could have been down seven or eight. Credit to Switzerland for taking their two goals well, but too little too late.
Really entertaining game compared to the earlier match.

Lol, you guys say it like it isn't anything except par for the course. That said even though we expect it and we're fully used to it, your tactless sentiment still makes you a couple of unsporting pricks.
lol, look who is crying about pricks, one of the loveliest members around. Should've had the dignity to take it like a man... Good riddance! :) LOL

back on topic, I'm glad Switzerland at least scored a couple, what a massacre by the french

Man, I was at work during the match. I did get out to see the last two goals by the Swiss. If they had a bit more time... the Swiss seemed to have been gaining traction when I got off. But it was too late for them to really get it going.

This WC is sure turning out interesting.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Are any of you non-yanks going to watch the US game? This is my 3rd WC in Japan (and I was here when Japan co-hosted). Nobody watches the fucking US games except Americans.

What are you talking about, I was referring to the comments being unsporting. Did you skim read the "tactless sentiment" part?

I suppose just because you can write in English, doesn't mean I should assume you can understand it. Re-read next time you send a comment my way pls.

They weren't THAT bad. Costa Rica is due some credit, they played well and tactically closed Italy down. Could be an Interesting dark horse if they make it through the quarters.

yup US team is not popular in this sport. But is a good team.
Now is going to be USA vs Portugal. People would like to see Cristiano Ronaldo. Btw I think Usa can beat Portugal.

I hope so. I'm tired of all the noise around this competition, let them join the rest of their injured teammates.

No they weren't.
But they were even more disappointing to me. At least Japan looked like they wanted to win, they just had no idea how.
Buffon actually said after the game that "Win or tieing the game wouldn't have made much of a difference" and that "even losing this match doesn't matter much". While that might be true from a purely numerical point of view, that's really not what you want to hear from the team captain.

Definitely props to Costa Rica though, I hope they'll make it far into the tournament.

And it's going to be a far better game to watch too. Argentina vs Iran is getting so damn boring atm...

That Ghana/Germany match was fantastic to watch, I was really rooting for Ghana and they very nearly had it.

Shame Iran couldn't hold onto their draw either, they worked so hard for it.
