Microsoft-made hardware discovery (limited use / old tho)

Post by Ed Oscuro »

Poster miguelvp of EEVBlog Forums posted a little while back that the ADS Technologies SuperScan2 had some kind of Micomsoft connection. I guess since I made some disbelieving noises, he kindly took some pictures of the bottom of one such unit, so this interesting obscure Micomsoft trivia can be preserved. Now, the "Micomsoft" lettering does look a bit strange there, but I expect it still is something like the real thing.

Out of the box, the SuperScan 2 just converts a 31KHz PC VGA signal into something for a TV - and not RGB; your choices are just Y/C or composite. But I think miguelvp played around with it a bit and there might be some useful parts inside.

If you want to play around with something, there's lots of these on eBay to be had very cheaply.

Not this surprising. I think the SuperScan2 is actually identical with with XPC-2 or 3. If you have a look at the units they look identical in terms of their PCB layout.

In this case the unit wasn't designed by Micomosft though. Their non-RGB capable scan converters were likely just licensed from an OEM manufacturer in Taiwan and I guess they manufactured too many bottom parts, so they used some of the "Micomsoft" labeled ones on the ADS units.

(usually the Micomsoft logo isn't supposed to be there: http://www.tbfcomputing.com/ebaypicture ... 0_1313.jpg )

What does this have to do with Microsoft? Is that a typo in the subject?
