Huge props to Mexico's goalkeeper. Many great defenses in there.

And indeed, Mexico was the better team today.

Liking S. Korea a lot in this first half, despite the lack of goals.

Reminds me of the first WC I watched (the 1994 one), Brazil x USA in the knockout stage. 0-0 far into the game, both teams are evenly matched, until one of our players catch the ball with his arm and proceeds to score. The referee didn't see it as usual. We totally robbed you guys that day :(

E: It happened on 4th of July on US soil, holy shit.

Also memorable for Leonardo's fairly brutal elbow on Tab Ramos.

In retrospect that elbow wasn't as brutal as the USA's jerseys that year.

I attended the Sweden win over Saudia Arabia in 1994, during the knockout phase. It was a pretty great experience but I had to review the Wiki page last night to remember that Sweden only lost one match that World Cup. It was one of the hottest, most miserable sports experiences (Texas on July 3) but amazing nonetheless.

That was a clanger and a half by Akinfeev.
EDIT: And what was the Korean keeper doing? Dear, oh dear. Well poached by the Russian striker though.

Neymar needs a good partner. He looks alone there. Brazil doesn't look to be a favourite team but is Brazil

Diego wher r u ?

Tomorrow don't miss Chile vs Spain. pressing and speed in both teams.

Maybe. But I lived there for 10 months so I'm practically a Texan. The Cotton Bowl is a piece of shit sardine can of a stadium though. Waters were like $10 and it was 20 years ago, so the people that had been down the road before took in zip lock bags of water to skirt the rules.

Definitely some material for the end-of-tournament blooper reel in that game, keepers were awful.

Amazing Australia / Holland game, with so many beautiful goals and incredible tension. I thought Aus may be in with a chance at some point.

But I have to say, the penalty was total bullshit - it was never an intentional handball in a million years. The referee made an appalling decision on that one.

Glad that the penalty did not matter, the aussies made a great first goal though and looked very fit!!
Great game, it is the first time Holland won a match against australia so i am really pleased.

Looks like we are going to the second round, because Spain is 0-2 down at the moment.

Do they not kill soccer hooligans for much less in Brazil or is that just the UK?

I don't think anyone would want to kill the guy for trolling Spain... Except the spanish fans.

The modus operandi in Brazil is to remove the toilets from the stadium's WC's and drop them on the unsuspecting victims.

Just watching some catchups. Dempsey's 29 second goal for USA was pretty special.

Mexico absolutely tactically reduced Brazil to nothing but smouldering embers, a very interesting game. Not sure Brazil look like a cup winning side when faced with the likes of Germany, France and Holland.

Spain, you won't be forgotten. Thanks for a glorious chapter of football.

That's what they get for not bringing in Jesé, Isco, Carvajal, Morata, De Gea, Thiago or Deulofeu. I thought the Confederations Cup result was proof enough to show that 2010's Spain team is dead.

Englands chance to redeem itself.

Gerrard shouldn't be captain after this tournament. I can't remember anything he has done for England that stands out for all the caps he's gotten. I think he has passion, but passion doesn't win football games.

Chile vs Spain was a nice match. The stadium looks like Southamerica qualifying games because the people.

Uruguay vs England should be a Death match. Uruguay likes to doesn't be the favourite.

Gerrard is a hard worker but he's too old now.

We're all set here in sunny China for a 3am kick off. It's on like Donkey Kong. Both teams need the points, it's going to be war.

The beer is like bottled sex. I'm like a kid in a sweet shop in the English pub, especially after drinking Guangxi local lager most nights.

Just finished a Youngs Double Chocolate Stout: dreamy.

The gal's ok, she's like a 6 surrounded by 10s though.

Fucking Christ. All my fears confirmed so far. They're too nervous to hit a stride.

2nd half requires some help from above or game over.

They're playing too slowly, and getting caught in possession too much.
Could only end one way, really. And undone by someone who's probably only 70% fit.

England always play like its their last game. Which is sad... You need to see something that makes you believe the next team they meet will be shitting themselves. Unfortunately we are a bunch of donkeys. Didn't even get the excitement that they created against Italy.

The best team won tonight. It wasn't England.... even if England still go through its going to be 90 mins of pain anyway. Lets face it, they never go 2 up in 30 mins so we can enjoy the ride.
