Defective Wii2HDMI Unit?

Post by Thrill »

I was just wondering if I have a defective Neoya Wii2HDMI unit?

When I first switch on the Wii with the adapter connected, it looks great: http://i.imgur.com/RljTbOX.png

After some minutes though, the pictures gets incredibly bright by itself: http://i.imgur.com/yS71WbL.png

I am thinking it's overheating but surely not after like 3 minutes? If it is just defective, what other brand can I buy that won't do any of this up scaling to 1080p stuff and will give me a raw 480i/480p HDMI signal?

Not what you're looking for, but a Wii U.

Yeah I was thinking about it but:

1. Too much money for what I want. Honestly, all I want to do is be able to play my virtual console games on a monitor and simplify the cable mess.
2. Since I play VC, I refuse to use that classic controller and need proper Gamecube controller support.

1) You can get refurb Wii U's for around $200.

2) GC controller support won't be an issue much longer: https://twitter.com/nintendoamerica/sta ... 8382607361

As far as the issues with the device, it could just be your monitor. I'd try a different display, and if you can reproduce the issue, have the unit replaced.

You could also try a simple component to HDMI converter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/YPbPr-Component ... 4867f14c20 - not personally vouching, just saying this will output the same resolution as the input (it won't scale).

With something like a console I'd only buy new tbh. Just how I roll! Well I actually used two different capture cards and got the same result so display has nothing to do with it (of course I also verified it gets brighter when just connected to the TV directly).

Yeah I knew about that GC thing but who knows what else it will actually support besides Smash. Unless it has specifically stated support for vWii mode/VC I'm not holding my breath.

I have thought about a converter but I'm trying to cut down on cable mess/powering more stuff. That is what makes this adapter so appealing to me.

Most of the refurbs sold through Nintendo's online store are just unsold new stock of the Nintendoland bundle that were returned by retailers, as far as I'm aware.

Literally the only drawback of using VC through the Wii U's backward compatibility mode instead of through an original Wii is that you lose true 240p mode, but I don't think you'd be getting that with an HDMI adapter anyway.
