Ryu ga Gotoku from Sega (PS2)
Just release in Japan, this might be Japan's answer to Grand Theif Auto. Made from the makers of Shemue, Ryu ga Gotoku has some good storyline (or that's what I herd). Famitsu gave this game a 37/40! There're couple of differences between this game and GTA, the most important part is the storyline. A lot of people are loving this game as of right now, and I'm hoping for a US release (hopefully with SUBTITLES!).

There's a barrier against western anything in Japan. Just the way the culture goes. I was basing the sales comment on the fact that the opening page of the official website has the characters bowing saying, "thank you for making this such a big hit". I don't know why they'd do that just w/ good Famitsu scores.I hope there isn't an explicit barrier against western games in Japan...

Wow I thought this was only in the development stages. Talk about being caught by surprise! Ordered it last night and PA shipped today, despite not showing it as in stock. I'm a huge fan of the film genre and of both Shenmue parts, but I hate the current pack of western-style urban violence tales led by GTA. I don't dislike the gameplay in them, just the vibe and attitude, gets on my nerves. Guess I should be right at home in something that suits my tastes in those departments.
