Question about the state of shmups.com

Post by Ceph »

Is the site beeing updated at all? I haven't seen any new reviews go up in a LOOONG time, the xenocide files' game lists are becoming very outdated - just have a look at the arcade section; no new games listed in 4 years...

What's up with that? Has Malc forgotten about shmups.com? Is he the only person involved in running the site?

PS.
No offence intended, I'd just like to know.

PPS.
Could someone please update the PC Engine CD section, Nexzr is not listed, but instead only the Summer Carnival edition. Also, I wonder who wrote this about Sylphia: "the game is inferior and plays nothing like a Compile shooter" What??? That statement is bordering on dementia.

He's supposedly just really busy now and will get to his backlog in due time. No other solution appears possible at the present.

Actually, I thought on this too, and there might be something we can do in the meantime:

We could start a thread on the forum, that lists all the shmups we can think of that are not present on the Xenocide at the moment. This way, when Malc will be back, he'll have less trouble updating the files.

We could proceed in a random way, ie any shmupper who comes up with an unlisted game just post it; or we could instead find some volunteers that will take care of a specific system.

what does bloodflowers think?

That's a good idea. And couldn't someone here who has Malc's trust ask him for the password an make the changes/updates instead? Surely this doesn't have to be a ONE PERSON job.

I think it is a shame that someone looking for info on recent games will not find any on shmups.com. After all, it is shmups.com's mission to promote shmupping and make more people interested in what we think is the greatest video game genre out there, right? So right now, it isn't doing a very good job. Just have a look at the french shmup.com, that's how it should be done.

Shump.com is fine, but I'm afraid they don't get the "shmup" concept right, as they reviewed Omega Boost...

anyway, I started a thread for updating the Xenocide files, so don't hesitate to post any MIA shmup. :D

If you want to track something in a topic, one thing that can be done is that the topic starter tracks everything in the first post, taking things from following posts. Once they have been added to the first post, the other posters can take the responsibility of deleting their posts in the topic (is this possible with this BB?) just to keep the topic somewhat clean and you can easily see what remains to be updated.

So, lots of missing games for Xenocide files were collected here in the forum. And what happened next? You guessed right. Nothing :-(

Well, no one's in any big rush...we can just hang on to the stuff we've added, and continue adding onto it, until Malc gets back. No reason to be anxious, there's still plenty of stuff happening right here on the forum, so the community's not going anywhere in the meantime.

The xenocide files really need an arcade section with shmups.
Yes there are quite a few, but we could probably list them based
on company?
