Sony BVM-1454D broken neck board

Hey guys,

So I bought this lovely little BVM-1554D on ebay, had a great photo in the auction of it working.



I received it in the post and heard some rattling when I was taking it out of it's packing - not good

Noticed the back cover was loose and through the venting could see that the neck board didn't look right. So I opened it up and as expected, the neck board has a nasty big crack down the top half. The rattling was some of the internal casing that snapped off. So it really must have taken quite a knock/been dropped.





On the plus side, everything else looks 100% fine and in great condition. It's just this damn neck board that's gone.

Does anyone know if it's possible to source neck boards for these anywhere?

I think if I've to go down the repair route then it's probably not really worth the hassle on a monitor this size, but it would be sad not to see it working again.

How was it shipped? I hope we're not in for a streak of broken monitors due to negligent handling.

Sorry for the loss - you need to contact the seller about a return or a refund. You had to go to eBay to buy the monitor, after all - can't imagine a source for parts is out there. Maybe someday we'll have some people build some replacement PCBs for some of these - until then...

Well, actually, I suppose you could look online for some specialist PCB repair services, but I don't know if they would be able to fix a problem of this magnitude. There's also no telling what else got messed up when that thing dropped.

Heya - thanks for the condolences, it's an annoying loss alright. I have a couple of PVMs but this is the first BVM I've managed to get my hands on. So I'm fairly gutted as they're really uncommon here.

The claim aspect is underway (it was actually packaged really really well, so it's very surprising that this happened) - I'm just trying to work out if there's anything I can do to get it going or if it's just going to be a matter of maybe salvaging the chassis and leaving the rest to the recycling centre (the idea of that pains me! )

It would be some job to try and repair that PCB (there really are a lot of broken traces) so I'd imagine the effort involved would far outweigh the value of the monitor.

All depends how generic the neck board is I guess. I'm hoping I can salvage one somewhere and replace it. It's very possible something else is also broken, but it all seems good, and the only reason the neck board broke is due to the pressure from the back cover pressing in on it. I don't think any other part of the monitor received the same level of force - might be wrong though!

A-1331-229-A is the part number for a PVM-1454QM, which is exactly the same as a BVM-1454D min us the SDI kit.

Just wanted to chime in. It is possible to repair your neckboard. I have repaired neckboards on arcade monitors before. Since it's just a single sided PCB you just need to solder some bare wire to reconnect any broken traces. Once you repair all the traces, run hot glue over the back of the board for structure support.

This is an interesting monitor you have. It looks more like a PVM than a BVM, but it has built in SDI, like the 8" BVM models (that also closely resemble 8" PVMs). Interesting.

second this. I've repaired one exactly like this (right through the neck connector). Just be sure to label the back to remind yourself (or someone else) that it's cracked in case you need to ever remove it.

Oh so the PCB is only one sided? That's a bit of a relief. I was thinking there'd be borked traces on either side. Hmmm, it might not be such a pain in the hoop to fix then.

Will have a chat with a mate and see if I can convince him to break out his iron
