Firstly, since there are no rules linked to anywhere on the page, it's safe to say that the same rules as these forums apply.

That is not safe to say as the #shmups IRC channel is a separate entity from these forums. They are well within their rights to moderate the chatroom as they see fit.

When there is absolutely no clear indicator as for the reason the ban occurred (or any written rules to follow to prevent said ban), and no warning of any kind was given before hand, I'd have to say they are NOT within their rights. This is the equivalent of someone being arrested and convicted without a trial and being thrown in jail (or executed or whatever punishment) without ever being told what they were being convicted for. If there had at least been a reason listed along with the ban, the case would be a lot different (I'd probably still ask for clarification but whatever).

No, I just don't have the mistaken impression that being a total stuck up jackass makes me more mature. Also, if I had gone through a temporal vortex when I was 13, I would still be 13, having been transported through time from then to now.

Regarding the attention, I was just trying to start up a conversation. My previous experience is that saying something silly, ridiculous, and downright strange usually sparks up a conversation of some sort.

Regarding the second bit, I guess that's fair. The way you said it gave me the impression that it was solely based upon your personal opinion.

Welcome to the shmup community. Here's some advice from a long time lurker. Never act weird (unless you actually are) and Never share your opinion about a game you don't like. Even if it has mechanics that you deem bad, someone will get upset.

It's not even acting weird. There are all sorts of weird folks who engage in discussion on IRC. However, they aren't completely obnoxious and annoying. Very few things are ban-worthy in my opinion, but, uhh, yeah.

Not sure if sarcasm or not. I used that particular analogy because they are similar, even though one is obviously more important than the other. I've noticed that some online communities have this tendency to blow a small occurrence ridiculously out of proportion until it becomes a huge problem.

I found where they were coming in the house on the outside and set a trap (little cup with clear syrup poison in it) directly in their path. They just started hauling it home. I actually felt a little sorry for them, but haven't seen any for years.

The fact that generally people assume you're religious. I can't even fault them, because in each case they're being incredibly kind and oblivious to the fact that it makes me uncomfortable. E.g.: Recently I misplaced something at the office. A coworker - the sweetest old lady you'll ever meet - suggested I ask God to help me find it. I smiled and nodded. When I did find it, she asked me if it worked. I smiled and nodded. More my issue than hers, but meh.

In the same vein, being excluded from religiously-themed family gatherings, like first Communions and such. I know they don't invite me because they know I would be uncomfortable, and I would; and I probably wouldn't attend because I don't really approve, but it kinda sucks missing out. My ideal would be that they ask me and I decline... which is also pretty shitty on my end. No real good solution there.

Annoyance isn't quite the right feeling, but it's as close as I can figure. Maybe some sort of resigned regret? Not the world's biggest problem, but it rankles. Also, my nipples are in a state of discontent. How hairy is too hairy?

Personally, I'm agnostic, and generally don't think about religion too much. In my opinion, there's no way to know what happens after you die (since that's pretty much the sole reason religion exists) until it actually happens, so there's no use worrying about it, or generating excuses to hate something.
