I was asked to compile a list by a little indie mag, and I was having some trouble thinking of all the releases in 2005. But, here is what I am submitting. I thought I would share with you guys, for whatever reason. And, yes, this is in my order of preference (or at least as orderly as I can get it)
1. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
2. Dream Theater - Octavarium
3. Riverside - Second Life Syndrome
4. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
5. KMFDM - Hau Ruck
6. Demons & Wizards - Touched by the Crimson King
7. Kamelot - Black Halo
8. Circus Maximus - The First Chapter
9. Coheed & Camrbia - Good Apollo
10. Frameshift - Absence of Empathy
There was actually quite a lot of good rock music out this year and these lists are always so hard to put together. It was tough to leave out some records, like the new Dead Soul Tribe. Overall it was a pretty strong year for my genre of choice.

I really didn't think the new Demons and Wizards was that good (the first is much better!)

And even the first one is nowhere near the quality of Schaffer's and Kürsch's main bands, imo.CMoon wrote:I really didn't think the new Demons and Wizards was that good (the first is much better!)
Did you try Savage Circus? It's the new band by Thomen Stauch, the former drummer of Blind Guardian. Sounds just like old BG stuff, just not as good.Brian wrote:I'm a whore for any Blind Guardian and spinoffs I can get.
Thomen's new project with the singer of Soilwork sounds very interesting, though, and the demo mp3s were great. Reminded me a bit of Grip Inc.
