Well, it is just an engine test. Hopefully those stun lock/kill abilities are not nearly as powerful in the final version.Pretas wrote:Only 2-3 shots to incapacitate each normal enemy? Either the game needs difficulty settings that add a lot more enemies (such as Rockman 9's Hero/Superhero modes), or this stun/dash-through mechanic has to go. Along with the diagonal shot, it feels like something that's included solely for the sake of being different than Rockman.

I guess Inticreates had already been moving in this direction with the overpowered abilities in the ZX games. In ZX Advent, the lock-on homing shot was the equivalent of the Contra 1 spread gun in its total effectiveness in almost every situation.

Where's the gameplay Inafune
You said there would be gameplay
Or at least gameplay that doesn't involve stupidly overpowered one hit kill abilities

they've still got a year to work on it. but yeah, that trailer didn't do much for me.Udderdude wrote:Where's the gameplay Inafune

They still haven't improved on a single issue with the game design shown in the last preview. It also just simply looks dull and lifeless. There's a long way to go before release, but it seems to indicate that they are satisfied with how the basic mechanics work. I think this may be one of the first in a series of high-profile Kickstarter disappointments. Wasteland 2 is also shaping up to be a significant let-down.

They're not really taking donations, but the money spent on preorders may be used for additional content related to the game. Looks like a fair deal if you ask me.
If only they weren't asking for a thing everyone expected to have been in by default though...

Well, this is awkward. Game still looks like overpowered dash attack spam, too. Fans are probably too invested at this point to even care.
After Megaman 9 and 10 were such good returns to the classic formula, the whole No. 9 thing left a sour taste in my mouth right from the very beginning. Seems like I was right ..

Isn't Shovel Knight well-liked by some, though?
I wonder what a person who knows precious little about Viewtiful Joe would make of VJ gameplay vids. "Looks like QTE spam?" It very much is, truth be told.

Who doesn't like Shovel Knight? Crazy talk.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Mighty No. 9 seemed poised to fill the Mega Man gap left by Capcom, but now we have Shovel Knight, and the clamor for MM goodness has subsided. Instead we have an increasingly bloated production that seems more like a Sonic cash-in than anything. 100k on voice acting? Who the hell cares in a MM game? Can't blame them for extending it to an anime franchise when bid, but even if the gameplay turns out to be an exemplary traditional MM game, I don't think I could help myself for being disappointed. Right now, I'm expecting an anime-themed Mega Man Powered Up. Which isn't to say I won't buy it, but my thirst isn't so strong anymore. Shovel Knight really upped the ante as far as mechanics and original personality go.
Still stoked for GunVolt.

If the VA is anywhere near as good as MM8's it'll have been a soundly worthwhile investment. Nobody gives a rat fuck about a Megamans story! But *everyone* love MUFT STAP DACTAH WAHWEE

So I guess Shovel Knight is going to be the Ikaruga of platformers in that people won't shut up about it or stop comparing it to everything else in the genre.

I also find it funny how Capcom couldn't stay consistent with localization for the MM games. Some MM games have Dr. Light's name as Dr. Right, one character's name went from Fliptop to Eddie, Megaman's non suit identity went from Rock to Mega, Bass was pronounced like the fish in MM8, despite the dog being named Treble, and MM7 even had Dr. Wily's name misspelled as Dr. "Willy" at one point.

At least they don't strive to re-write the story to omit certain characters like Nintendo of America does for Kirby. At one point they even changed Dark Zero (known as Dark Nebula in the US) into a completely different villain to avoid putting Zero in the series again. I believe Zero also played a lesser role in Canvas Curse. (he didn't physically appear in the game, but was referenced in the JP ending)BrianC wrote:Be weary weary quiet, Mega Man, I'm hunting Wabbit!BIL wrote:But *everyone* love MUFT STAP DACTAH WAHWEE

The point being, official localization groups are frequently somehow worse at their jobs than unpaid fan groups are for games that are never officially localized. That's my opinion, anyway.

No, that was Super Meat Boy. Shovel Knight is more like a Hydorah, with greater concessions to the mainstream.Lord Satori wrote:So I guess Shovel Knight is going to be the Ikaruga of platformers in that people won't shut up about it or stop comparing it to everything else in the genre.

Yeah, it was awful how they changed one word in the name of the final boss. Really ruined the logic of the "Kirby beats up and consumes alien mice to get a treasure chest he thinks they put a piece of cake in but actually contains a starfish made of darkness" plot.Lord Satori wrote:At least they don't strive to re-write the story to omit certain characters like Nintendo of America does for Kirby. I blame 4Kids for the Kirby name changes, since the stupider ones started around the same time as they started releasing the anime in the US. It's also around that time that the western releases had titles like Kirby Canvas Curse instead of Kirby's Canvas Curse. I may be wrong on this, but I doubt the renaming was done to cover up Zero, but more like something along the lines of Boomer being changed to Rotor in the Sonic comic to keep the name consistent with the cartoon.

Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland is the only Kirby game that really has anything to do with the series. Even then, it isn't really considered to be canon among any of the games.
Anyway, when a localized version of a game and a fan translated original are compared side by side, and they don't match up, that's the signal that something needs to be done.
Really, it's your own fault if your brain was stupid enough to interpret it as something like this. This mini-rant is something that belongs in the "little things that annoy the hell out of you" thread, but I really hate it when people come up with a really stupid way of describing something. I once came across someone on youtube who said Yu Yevon was a potato. I mean, really? A potato? How stupid do you have to be to come up with something like that? I understand that he was a disappointing final boss, but a potato? You know better than that.Mortificator wrote:starfish made of darkness

I wasn't saying that the games were directly related. I was saying that the stupid localizations like Mr. Flosty and the games titled Kirby instead of Kirby's seemed to be a result of the series' translations.Lord Satori wrote:Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland is the only Kirby game that really has anything to do with the series.
