Gamefaqs Top-10 - shooters?!

Post by llabnip »

I know most here are not fans of gamefaqs (being a fan of Japanese RPGs, I've come to rely on a one-stop-shop for translations and guides and so enjoy the content of the site once you ignore most of the reviews). I just saw the featured top-10 list for today has 2-and-one-half shooters on it:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/top10/2.html

There are definitely some good games in there - and I always enjoy seeing a list of good games that might not otherwise be known (of course, the 2.5 shooters on this list are well known to all of us - but we are a very small specialized group indeed). I think if I ever end up doing a series of lists or reviews, I would certianly try to focus on those great games that don't otherwise get much press.

Since there are 7.5 non-shooters, I put this in off-topic.

Are they right that the N64 Bangaioh is better?

And why have I never heard of this Mr. Driller for GC? Is it import only? But in that case the RPG elements would be inaccessible to us who do not know Japanese, presumably.

The GCN version of Mr. Driller is talked about all the time here. Though it is import only, it's pretty cheap at Play-Asia ($30).

That's a really good list, though I don't know if I'd call Vampire Chronicle the most polished and well animated fighter ever, it's always awesome to see the under-appreciated Darkstalkers/Vampire franchise get some love. :D

List is probably wasted on the Gamefaqss audience, though I think it's cool how CJayC's contests and lists are usually geared towards broadening their horizons.

Crap list except for Mr. Driller, isn't Vampire chronicle for DC just a collection of the SS Vampire games? In which case 3rd Strike is better animated, I'm sure Warzard and anything else on CPSIII is too, whoever wrote this is talking out of their ass.

Man I hate people.

It's not a collection, it's actually like Hyper Street Fighter 2 where it's a single game and you choose what gameplay type you want for each character. It is pretty polished. :P

That said, from a personality standpoint I would say the animations completely blow away ANY CPS3 game except possibly Jojo (not hard though since your only options are the two Jojos, Warzard, and the three SF3s). That's probably what they were referring to.

From what I heard, unlike Hyper Street Fighter II, Capcom actually spent the time to make special versions of the characters not in earlier games to balance them with the earlier versions of the characters from the Vampire/Darkstalkers games.

Still, they messed up the existing characters' move properties in VC so nobody took it seriously.

The list is alright. At least it's from CJayC so you know he actually knows his stuff.

As for Bangai-O, it's generally agreed upon that the DC version is better since it looks and sounds far better. The main differences of the game are that you needed fruit to power up in the N64 version whereas in the DC version, you power up just by blowing shit up and there's a lot more supers that can be stored in the N64 version.

Yeah but that aspect was kind of half-assed. Like Rikuo/Aulbath's jumping heavy kick is always the Vampire Savior version no matter what. So instead of choosing which game version of the character you want you get some odd hybrid almost every time.

Awesome game just the same but like Ganelon said, not taken seriously for tournament play or anything. I love it myself. :P

It would have been pretty interesting if they made game-accurate versions for everyone in Hyper Street Fighter II. World Warrior Sagat would only have one standing kick, 1/4 damage on every character.

It's hard to say really.

The DC one looks a lot better, with better sprites, higher resolution and more colours, but the N64 version controls a lot better due to the pad layout.

The games are slightly different in level layout, and in the N64 version the girl (forgot her name) has a slightly different weapon (still bounces but has small hominh capabilities), which makes it slightly easier.

I would say go for the N64 version because it's a lot easier to control and shoot.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.
