Seems like one of the great things about shmups: every single hurdle seems impossible at first, but gradually you get better little by little untill what seemed impossible seems trivial... Well, maybe not trvial, but definately doable

Hey guys, so as of just earlier, I finally managed to get my 1st ever 1cc of Great Fairy Wars! Man, that was awesome I did it, that game used to beat my arse so bad before, but wow, I sat down for an hour, and well, I just it! It actually wasn't that hard to do, haha (Well, before that, I've been doing practice mode Lunatic mode for Perfect Cherry Blossom for a few hours beforehand and throwing in a few credits before I got a little miffed at restarting stage 1 over and over for a bit because of silly mistakes, making me want to do some other game, so that might have helped out a bit)! It felt like beating down a bully that always used to mess with me!

Well, the score was rather meh, but considering what it was, this is a nice start towards something even greater! For the 1st time, I put a stop to the great fairy plan to hold the human village ransom for a hundred billion scorepoints! (That part wasn't actually in the game. Lame Austin Powers joke, I know.)

Great Fairy Wars is actually quite a nice game, and wow, the art in that game was quite nice by Touhou standards! Cirno and the Three Fairies of Light were very well drawn, just like in the manga Touhou Sangetsusei, done by the same artist, Makoto Hirasaka, who did that same manga!

Mushihimesama futari 1.5 original...gave up on doj blex 360 and got this 1cc instead.After randomly making it to larsa about a week ago,I realised that I might be in with a chance of clearing the game,tonight,I did it!! After a weird day at work,I'm now on top of the world! I feel awesome!

Yeah, I should be getting Mushihimesama Futari in the mail pretty soon, so I'm about to join in on the fun too and find out how awesome that game is (I've been waiting to play that game for a while now), as well as also getting to feel and understand how you've felt all the way up to your 1st 1cc of Mushihimesam Futari 1.5 Original clear myself, and hopefully, it all works out well for me, too! But yeah, very nice, man! What was your score like, if you don't mind me asking?

A while back I 2-ALLed Super Stardust HD, and saw it loops a 3rd time, to which I thought "NOPE NOPE NOPE"

This morning I dived back in and got a 3-ALL

Fuck yeah!!!! I'm a god damn machine, it took 2 hours 30

..then i saw it loops a 4th time, and I got destroyed

I randomly threw the ps2 Mushi port in yesterday, put a credit in arrange. Died in the last phase of the tlb

So, I don't want to play mushi arrange, but I do want to play something. Not a 1-week tourney half-assed "good enough score" kinda thing, but some real shit.

Mostly looking at SDOJ 1.5 (If its good in the long run?), Futari God, or maybe DOJ or DFK (Not sure I can do DFK honestly).

Any tips/thoughts/dirtycompetitiondowntalk is appreciated.

I used to play it a while back and always would generally make it to the stage 4 boss or occasionally slip through to stage 5 on my last life and probably die before the stage 5 extend.I worked out a fairly safe strategy to get me through to larsa.I have to admit that by the time I got to her I just wanted the clear so didn't care about score or anything,I played safe but still got a couple of stupid deaths on her,so I did spam the bombs at the end! Score wasn't that great;191,083,537.I have a higher score but I'm not fussed,I was only bothered about the clear! Cheers though,hope you have fun with it when it arrives! Go for the 1cc,good luck!

EDIT: congrats on your clear! I havn't played any those games,so havn't a clue what they're like but I feel your sense of achievement,well done!

Dunno how I missed that, but grats on the Futari clear Jonst! That was the first 1cc that I really felt I earned, and putting the killing blow to Larsa was just bliss.

What do you have planned next? Going to push Orig further, or maybe jump to another mode?

@Purple: Wow, GFW is hard as balls. I tried playing it a few times, and just got murdered (This was a while ago, so maybe I've gotten better by now ). Shame, too, because I love how short and intense it is, as well as the freezing mechanic. That's one that I'm gonna go for one day, I think.

I dunno really...maybe back to ketsui x mode or maybe muchi muchi pork,having said that the reality is I'll probably end up not playing any of them! I havn't ticked off anything from my 2014 goals list! Which was to clear progear and batrider...

Ah, very nice, indeed! Yeah, I only asked about the score part, since I was thinking at the time that, maybe, chances are that you probably could also make the cut into the Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 Original leaderboards here, which would be really cool if that was the case (299+ Million min. for Reco to get 20th place, 259+ Million min. for Palm to get 20th place) but yeah, I know how that feels, that natural feeling when you're focusing on getting that 1st clear rather than score, so yeah, well played! Haha, your description that also somewhat describes a lot of my own 1st 1cc clears through various games, where you're just going for the 1st clear, doing whatever it takes to get there, and forgetting about the score (At least for the 1st 1cc), and might probably closely describe my own take, for when I do get to actually play Mushihimesama Futari and start to get the ball to roll to my court, lol. Yeah LordHypnos, I know how that feels. Great Fairy Wars used to beat me so bad it's not even funny when I first got to play that one several months ago. I would always screw up really badly on the 2nd stage, and sometimes, when the occasion happens when I get to the 3rd stage, that stage would make quick work of what's left in short time, lol. It was frustrating back then, to where I decided to put that one off for a bit. But since then, I've been playing through various shmup games, as well as getting some nifty clears in a few of the other Touhou games on the harder difficulties and some Extra stage bosses cleared, I finally got back into Great Fairy Wars, and it wasn't that bad as before, which made it a ton of fun to where I can now really appreciate some of the game's qualities, on normal mode, at least.

Yeah, last night I think was the 1st time I ever got to face all three fairies together, and whew, was that one intense battle, especially near the end, where I had no extra lives yet, when I was fighting against their last spell card, and just when the three fairies were going to finish me, I managed to get yet another extend a bit before that moment, and it was then, that I knew this 1cc is actually going to totally happen, and that's how it happened, in a nutshell. It was quite a narrow victory, but it was done, nonetheless. I'll plan to put that one on my YouTube channel at some point, along with a slew of other clears of a fair few bit of games I've been playing as well (I learned how to use fraps not long ago).

I think you can clear/1cc GFW someday, LordHypnos! If I managed to, I think you'll pull it off sometime pretty soon, maybe by, at the very least, the end of this year, I'd wager. Me, I just played a bunch of other shmup games, and before I knew it, I, once again, really noticed my general increase when the GFW 1st 1cc just happened, like that. It was incredible!

I think the easiest route to clear is A1 (I know that's biased, since that was where my 1st normal 1cc happened, but I genuinely felt that probably is one of the easier routes) and I've heard about the C2 route being another route that's also one of the easier routes. Don't know about the other ones.

Makes sense. Yeah, trying to go for score certainly isn't easy, from my own experience, to a point that, even in the easier difficulties, what was once a trifle seems to have become harder, simply because you start to want to really get perfect, and then there's the fact that the slightest mistake costs you a lot, score-wise, to where it could even get to one's head. Truly, I can see that, as you get better at shmups, the games seem to get harder, but I guess that's where the fun is to be had, if one can overcome all that, and get a pretty good score out of it all. Hmm, yeah, I, too, have that bad habit somewhat, to where once I clear a game, I probably don't come back to it for a while, though I'm trying to fix that up.

There are a couple games where I can actually pull off what could be considered a rather decent score at myself, like Perfect Cherry Blossom and Deathsmiles (My gosh, scoring in the Deathsmiles arrange modes is so much fun! Really rewarding stuff, that one! ). Hmm, very nice you can do Akai Katana pretty well! I'm looking to clear Akai Katana sometime soon (I have that game on me), after I get a couple other games down first.

Yeah it does get harder, the most obvious change is the speed at which absolutely everything moves - it's easier to keep track of little asteroid bits if they're moving slower. But with each loop both the rocks and enemies are quicker - sometimes stuff spawns in directly on top of you, with less than a second's warning. I often finish (sleepwalk) the first loop after becoming complacent with the game's pace, only to be instantly destroyed in the 2nd loop because of the increased speed, and the fact that you have to power up from scratch, again.

Had my best ever run on ketsui x mode;made the stage 5 mid boss and smashed my previous high score! (Which,in all fairness,was a bit crap) I screwed up on getting the stage 5 extend but for the first time I feel a 1cc is possible...although admittedly,harder work is needed than for my previous clears!

Double Post, but I just made it to stage 5 of Mars Matrix. Basically brute forced my way through the boss of 4, though (abuse of temporary invincibility), which is not actually good enough to eventually clear with. (Note that this was my goal for the year, though I think I'm not gonna count it till I have a real boss strategy)

Did it come out of nowhere? a little. I lost a life in each of stage 2 and 3, but then I no missed stage 4 all the way to the boss, then dodged the first attack, followed by using the mosquito against the boss, then dying, then mosquito again, and piercing cannon until my invincibility ran out, then died again, then mosquito, then piercing until the boss asploded.

On the other hand, I knew that if I could make it to the boss with 2 lives I could brute force my way through, due to getting frustrated in practice mode. I also knew I could make it to the boss without dying, because I've done each part of stage 4 individually that way, before (probably the first time I've managed it in one go, though).

Now I need to consider whether to post my new high score already (this run), even though I already bothered Rob to update the thread about a week ago or whatever, when I got 189B points...

I have no idea. I guess I could practice to make my last 2 stages more consistent and learn the chain for stage 2 (or the bee routes for that matter) but I need a break from this game for now. I may try out DOJ for sillies, or go back to Gradius II and see what I can do there.

Got a really silly 1CC on Astebreed hard mode, almost died like 3 times. Beat the last boss with 5 out of 10,000 hp.. yeah.
The game is pretty interesting if you try to go for score.

Hey guys, what's up? Yeah, after a few days of playing Subterranean Animism, I finally got my 1st 1cc of the game (On normal mode, at least)! I beat it using Marisa and Patchouli, one of my most favourite shot-types in the game! (Marisa & Alice is my other favourite shot-type)

Yeah, this game also used to beat me so bad, back when I tried to play it several months before, and even further back, and now, I've overcome this one, too, at last! Man, it feels so good, finally beating this one, and to tell you, it was quite a blast, playing this one! I'm looking forward to getting further with this game as well, hopefully beat the Extra stage of Koishi Komeiji, and then the harder difficulties, as well as beating the game with the other characters!

For now, though, I can finally get to playing other games, finally. This game really did teach me some good streaming lessons (Heck, I even picked up one super graze technique in this game, it was pretty cool). Hopefully, I can take that with me to other games as well.
