get more savestates in shmupMAME

Post by Patashu »

It seems that with Shift+F7 I can only save savestates to letters and numbers. When I have exhausted all 36 slots, what can I do to get more savestates without having to delete old ones?

Why on earth would you need more than 36 savestates per game?

Once you filled up all the slots you should be able to archive your saves by taking them from the "sta" folder and putting them in another folder, you can restore them later.

Use your imagination :)
Some shmups last a very long time. DFK 2-ALL is almost an hour, so I would only be able to place a savestate every 100 seconds in an hour long shmup for example. But I prefer to be able to practice in much smaller increments then that when needed.
Or - what if I want to have savestates for multiple different characters? Multiply by 2, 3 or more.
And there are probably other reasons why you might need 37+ that I'm not thinking of.

Stopping/starting a game is nice and snappy, so this should be fine. (I'd love to be able to swap savestate 'pages' with an in-game command, but is the shmupmame developer still around?)
