bump :D
now that mame runs this I'm going to get slaughtered.. but that 2mil score I just got on the real pcb, actually got it in 1-2, I can see how it's possible to get higher scores by getting 100% kills and no bombs, etc.

"Viper Phase 1 USA" is what the USA calls the New Version.

sweet, please play this game more :D

I updated with my top score on the pcb, just left my name on there 3 times since no one else was submitting anything..

the stage 2 boss can be milked for a very long time once it actually takes off from where it starts, it's mainly just dodging the spread attack type thing it does if I remember correctly, and little single drone/ships drop in at a regular interval which adds to the score (you just only shoot when one drops in, adding to your score)

stage 3 is hard for me, but i've gotten better at it, there are these spinning mine type things which drop in at the sides of the screen, fire some sniper shots, and then suicide into you, they always mess me up.

*Edit*
do you know about the medal pods and shooting them once they start moving back off the screen? (basically when their jet's change to a larger blasting off animation) by doing that you get a bunch more medals which help with the end of level totals.

also there is a hidden medal in level 1, its on the platform that moves up the screen just before the 2 bigger ships fly down, if you avoid shooting the medal box on it, when it reappears from under the background it will have a medal worth a ton of points, not sure where these medals are in other levels.

*edit again*
also there are no extends in this game or 1ups as far as I can tell, its fucking crazy.

What is the problem with it BUHA? You probably just need a new rom - as the game works perfect for me in Mame32.104...

Anyway - i'm working on 1cc'ing this game right now. When i get to where i can pull it off i'll record a full play through and put it up for you guys. I've been practicing every night for about a week now and i've already drastically improved.

After that i plan on tackling the Raiden Fighters series...

hey guys, sorry about the super long delay with updates. Hopefully some more people will join in on this excellent shooter... I've got it set to notify me when someone replies now.
Also, the top score for this game is something like 17 million... ! ! !

Mind posting this rubbish elsewhere? Next time include an actual score.

On topic.

RFP - 1,442,754 - 1-3
Could've been at least 2mil if I hadn't missed 100% on St1.

Whoops, I meant to say Stage 4 in general is a breeze, the boss is not. :/
I hated this game at first, but when I spent even an extra minute on it, I don't know why, but I'm hooked. I really want to 1CC this baby now.

Question: 2.3mil on Stage 3 is freaking high. What do you do to get that high in such a short time?

The 100% bonus gives a large amount of points, so getting that on stg 1 and 2 usually gets your score up around (or over) 2million at the end of stage 2, there is also a secret 100,000pt medal in stage 1 (or maybe it is 10,000), it is a bit difficult to get though.
Right after the area where the 3 large ships are taxiing the runway and the first P and weapon pickup are available, there is a ground-based item pod/box that is on a platform which starts scrolling up the screen, if you avoid shooting the pod/box and wait for it to come back down after scrolling up it will release a large medal, if you wait 8 seconds (i think) for the medal to flash and grab it right as it flashes, it will increase it's value by a large amount... In order to do that you need to shoot the box right as it re-appears so that it has enough travel distance to flash before leaving the screen at the bottom.
You can also pick up other ground-based medals when they flash for increased point value.

Also, the little pods that float down and release medals, if you wait to shoot them when their thrusters go to full power (as they begin flying back u pthe screen) they will release approximately two times the amount of medals.

I'm hoping to 1cc this game too, I've got the PCB of it and have been playing it periodically for 2 or more years, but I don't seem to be improving... It's a pretty long game too with 7 or 8 stages and no extends or 1up items at all... There may even be a second loop.

If the STG 2007 scores go in here, is it worth separating the board into Mame/Hardware assisted autofire and the normal/in-game autofire? The latter not only being harder, but different style of play.

I think it should as it took me around 3-4 hours to get that 2.4 million score with the default in game autofire. Then I turned it to MAME assisted autofire and got my final 3.2 million score after only like 4 attempts at the game with it.

So basically, yeah the game is alot harder without MAME assisted autofire IMO.

no problem, I can split it up as long as people posting scores start listing if its mame or pcb, along with the autofire being custom or the default in-game speed.

Skyrandia, I agree, I was able to beat my normal autofire score on the 2nd or 3rd try with my PCB rapid fire circuit.

Well it looks like with the exception of maybe one person, everyone else has updated scores from the competition, so just replace everything with the new scores listed under assisted autofire.

Maybe this will insent people to pick it up and try playing again with the in-game autofire.

MJR - 2,878,035 - 1-4 PCB

It took me some time before I was able to contribute.
Reason was this that when I got the PCB it was set to easy/5 lives but it had no dip switches, and my cabinet had no test/service button (I only had them for neo geo board so far).
So; I had to wait my friend to come over and build test and service witches to my cabinet.

Now it's set to normal and 3 lives, which suppose is the default. And this was my first attempt :)

autofire score:

5,176,792 - CIT - Stage 7 - MAME

BTW, no need to list stages as "1-3", "1-5", etc, because the game doesn't loop. ;)
