XM29 gaussing issues

Post by LaC »

So I had an XM29 shipped via UPS. It was not packaged super well by the seller. I watched the UPS guy nearly drop it off the truck as he put it on his dolly. Well it certainly took an impact.
After I unboxed it I noticed a crack in the plastic, possibly where it took an impact.
I turned it on and immediately noticed gaussing issues on the left and right side of the screen. I tried the internal degausser, nothing. I also tried this 6" degaussing coil I have for arcade monitors. I am able to move the artifacts around a bit but not helping much.
I've tried decaussing it about 20 times now, and nothing is helping.
I'm trying to figure out how to fix this. Possibly internal magnets have shifted? The shadow mask has shifted? Any ideas? The center of the screen looks fine. Well the colors aren't that rich.

Have you tried moving/turning the monitor to a different direction?

Yeah I moved it a bunch. It changes only slightly.

Something else weird. When I plugged into the R G B inputs, the colors were wrong everywhere. So I swapped the inputs around until it came out correctly (except for the gaussing issues). Very odd.
Then I hooked up s-video and composite... it looks like somehow, internally in the monitor. RGB is swizzled around. Like R is B and G is R and B is G. Odd.

Can you claim off UPS for breaking it? Then you could get it professionally repaired.

UPS will lay blame on the person who shipped it for inadequate packing materials used. If the shipper used a UPS store and had them prepare it, then there is hope for refund/repair.
