I felt like the weapon switch added a lot to it I guess, but I can see where you are coming from, especially when comparing it to others. Ibara PS2 Arrange is better than the main game imo, and Espgaluda's is also pretty great.

It may be me, but novice expert in SDOJ seems harder than 1.5 shot, at least as far as the stages are concerned.

The boss patterns feel a hair easier though.

Is this true or am I imagining it?
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

How transferable are shmup skills between games. To what extent is what I'm trying to figure out. If someone can 2-All DOJ, does that mean he can pick up any other shmup and be at a huge advantage to other players?

Shmup skill is as transferrable as rhythm game skill between games. e.g. very, but you'll still need to get used to the new game before you start kicking ass again.

A number of people who play Mushi I know didn't realize you could switch weapons in the arrange mode. I found it handy for changing shot type during some bosses or for sections where you want more speed, but most people seem to just use one shot type the whole game so it's easy to see why it's not as appreciated.

Espgaluda's Arrange is possibly one of Cave's best arrange modes, which is why it's a shame it's only on the PS2 port so far. Practically nobody has had the chance to play it.

And about as much as fighters too. I'd actually say it's one of the most skill transferable genres. It's to really say just how much, but when you get better and see yourself doing better at games first time than other players, you'll definitely begin to see it.

Can I assign savestates to symbols (, . ; etc) in ShmupMAME42?
I am about to run out of letters/numbers to savestate to.

In Futari God, when you cash in on a midboss, is the multiplier to his 2nd wave of amber calculated as soon as those amber appear, or do I have to wait until the multiplier number appears over the amber?

Amber value is determined by your multiplier at the moment each individual piece of amber spawns, so if you destroy a midboss and immediately cash in on all the bullet cancelled amber, your multiplier will be lower for when the midboss explodes and drops another amber wave. Don't wait too long though or you may lose more points by waiting for the midboss to explode and dropping a bunch of amber you could have collected.

Okay, so value is determined the moment it spawns, good to know. I figured that it wasn't necessary to see the multiplier value, but wanted to check just in case.

Thanks!

If I obtain an early Touhou game (like Embodiment of Scarlet Devil) or any 2hu game for that matter, will it just work without any special set-up on an American Windows 7 64 bit system, or do I need to do something special to get it running properly?

Actually, same question for Hellsinker; I'm considering buying that.

I managed to get my on-disc Touhou games (Scarlet Devil included) running on Windows 8 without any special adjustments (other than the usual enabling Japanese non-unicode stuff), so I doubt 7 will be a problem.

I know Hellsinker had a patch needed to run it on 8, but I don't think it needed one for 7.

I got on-disc (Mountain of Faith) Touhou installed with no issues (Just guessed on what the installer was asking me, and it worked), though I also used an english language patch that I found on the intarw3b. Unfortunately don't remember where I found it. This was Windows 7 32 bit so I'm not sure how much difference there would be.

I'm, er... "acquiring" embodiment of scarlet devil as I type this; so do I have to run this through AppLocale or can I just run it?

Figure out what files you have, if it's an installer, run that, if it's files, then see if you can find a file with a name like th08.exe or something. If you also have th08e.exe, then that's the english patched version that you should be running. I don't think there's anything confusing you should have to do, unless you're running it in WINE or something.

I finished "acquiring" the game, and it had an english executable to run, but the game just sits on the intro screen asking me to "watch warmly" and playing music with Windows reporting it as not responding. What do I do?

That sounds bad. Nothing like that ever happened to me, so I don't know what to say :?

It would not be humanly possible. However, you'll never actually get near max rank in a real human run (I have serious doubts that a TAS could do it either), without using the 'infinite pattern' exploit Kamui discovered a few months ago.

Has anyone uploaded the music track "Heavy Enemy Raid" by Go Sato from Raiden IV Overkill's new mission stages to YouTube yet? Or is there anywhere I can listen to it on my mobile device?

Would it also be impossible for a TAS?

Could it be possible to reach max rank on Special Mode? That mode is Extended and Harder combined, it has also never been cleared which could be related, would be a cool superplay to see tbh.

Try all the normal stuff. Run in administrator mode. Try compatability mode settings. update your graphics card drivers etc.

These may seem like silly things to try with a Touhou game but you never know unless you try

Thanks for the info trap.

I thought that maybe just maybe, there was a guy out there who spent years clearing it like how DOJ Death label took time.

I know this has been asked before, but is it known if Futari 1.01 Ultra is able to be cleared? Stage 5 seems absolutely silly, but the game does give you a lot of resources.

Also (cross-question from the Futari scoreboard), does anyone know what optimal scores are for God mode? Stage by stage would be even sweeter, but just an overall estimate would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks AntiFritz! That was a crazy replay.

Sorry for spamming the thread with Futari questions, but I have one more: Has anyone killed Spiritual Larsa with Palm? I noticed the insane 7.06b run with Palm (Which is almost reaching the Reco WR) does not trigger it, and any searches just bring me to practice mode runs.

Somewhere in the language settings for your computer (assuming Windows) there should be a "non-unicode" setting - if Japanese isn't one of the options you'll just have to download a language pack (a quick Google or two should do it), then switch it to Japanese and restart the computer. Note that this makes certain icons appear as Japanese characters across all operations, though you can simply switch it back to the default if it bugs you.

If you can manage to get the game running and enjoy playing it by all means grab a legit copy if you can, they're pretty cheap to obtain.

I tried running as administrator and installing AppLocale to run the game through; neither method changed anything.
