tecnosoft (or maybe technosoft?) : they just kicked asses!

Post by gabrielesquaratti »

i'm the only one here who fell COMPLETELY in love with Tecnosoft games?

seriously,i have many shmups on many different systems but none have the...how can i explain it with words...the tecnosoft feel!

awesome musics, inspired graphics, fun and never too frustrating gameplay, lot lot lot of style.

thunder force series : some of the best hori shmups of all time.tfIV have some incredible memorable moments like the end of stage five.
tf3 is pretty easy, also in mania mode, but somehow it's so fun that i can't stop playing it.also the spaceship stage is very epic indeed
tf2 is kinda the weak one but still pretty damn solid!
tf5 has unbalanced weapons but it's still very good game, the moment when you will face the tf4 fighter as an enemy is simply TERRIFIC.
elemental master have some similarities from tf series but add a unique gameplay style, with lot of replay value.i just love it.

saturn exclusives : hyper duel (also pcb release) and blast wind
some of the most expensive shmups for the systems, they are trully gems.
blast wind is a vertical style, kinda easy on default settings (but try max difficulty with player 2 and it will be MUCH harder),incredible ost, very unique graphics style, and a interesting story line (i know,it's a shmup but i found it to be very good)
hyper duel other than be the most expensive saturn shmup is also the best hori on the system.
you can select from 3 spaceship morphing into mecha at will, you can use special attacks to act defensively or offensively, plus the last level is the most epic level i played on a shmup.ever.
beside that, nice graphics, amazing ost (even better than hyper duel) and you can select from start if play the saturn (arranged) mode or the original arcade mode, and trust me,there is a huge difference between them.

so,tecnosoft,you kick major asses.period

yes i'm a fanboy

i like technosoft more than compile sometimes. othertimes i realize how similar they are and how they're both redeemed with games like hyper duel, blast wind, mahou daisakusen (not exactly them), gg aleste, etc

it is "Tecno Soft", "Techno Soft", "Tecnosoft", and "Technosoft", depending on how they felt that day. "Tecno Soft" tends to appear on packaging, "Technosoft" tends to appear in games and in print

Hyakutaro Tsukumo is awesome. I recently listened to some of his tracks on the Dangerous Mezashi Cat albums, really nice work. Hell, the whole albums are made of win.

I'm curious as to how difficult Hyper Duel is?

I'm strongly considering purchasing it for the Saturn in the near future and I've read vastly differing accounts of the game's difficulty. Is there a lot of memorization involved? I mostly play vertical shooters but have recently been having a lot of fun with Darius Gaiden. How hard is Hyper Duel relative to DG?

As far as other TecnoSoft games go, I actually really enjoy Blast Wind but haven't played TF3 enough to really get anywhere with it. The music stays killing it though.

Thanks to anyone who can help answer my questions, scattered as they are.

I've never been able to get into Hyper Duel's mechanics. I'm sure there's a great game in there somewhere, it's just not for me.

The rest of the Technosoft games, though? Love 'em. Thunderforce III is stuff of legends. Thunderforce IV and V are pretty great too.

Not very hard at all by arcade standards - closer to 30hz autofire Darius Gaiden than full default DG. Light on memorisation - levels are generally wide open, lacking even TFII/III's simple "gotcha!" snares, and all three ships can easily swat down anything in their way. There's certainly scope to learn and improve, particularly knowing when to burn the super meter on crowds/hard targets, but mere survival isn't tough to secure. A couple of the later bosses can be real killers, though even if they overwhelm you, stocking enough lives to weather them shouldn't be too hard.

As with Elemental Master and Blast Wind, the lack of sheer challenge is offset by the rush of unleashing massive firepower upon massive resistance. It's easy overall but never dull - frequently euphoric. Coolness multiplier overheat if you dig Macross-style techno dogfighting! One of my favourite Saturn shooters.

In its defense, the stages and weapon mechanics actually seem to be designed around the "move as little as possible" scoring system.

hyper duel is less difficult than darius gaiden.
no ranking system have to be found and bosses have much less hitpoints.
darius gaiden bosses just never dies!!!

Very rank-dependent boss. Basically if you reach him at max power, be on red alert for that fast and dense bullet cloud. His BGM is named "NIGHTMARE" for a reason. ^_~

Saturn HD ain't cheap but besides SS mode's dazzling goodness, I like to think of it as chucking in the also rare and pricey PCB FO FREE. Image

Heh heh, thats how I justified the price! They are different enough and both have their merits.

I begun playing Hyper Duel 2 days ago I think I've played 10 credits at most, and I am already reaching level 6 with easy. I dont know how hard the last levels will be, but the game seems to be pretty easy.

It's still a lot of fun.

Edit: Blast Wind also is very fun, but I remember 1ccing it in my 2nd go.

Hyper Duel is considerably harder when playing with the scoring system in mind, which requires you to move as little as possible. The score counter continuously increases while not moving.

Does it really make a big impact in the score? I am not playing for score for now, I just want the 1cc. It seems like most of the score comes from Level 5 :D

My best score so far is around 1.2 million if I remember correctly.

I have no idea of how those bonuses at the end of level work. The Special Bonus seems to be completely random :)

EDIT: What I find really funny is how no one ever talks about Thunder Force 1. I guess nearly no one has played it.

I did it, in real hardware, both the PC-88 and the FM-7 versions :) I think there are more versions of it in other computers, I'm not sure.

I think there were a lot of talented composers working for Techno Soft. Pretty much all of their games have fantastic OSTs, from what I've heard. TFIII is probably the best in that regard, but they're all god tier.

Hyper Duel's just about the only game I don't have that I'd be excited to pay big money for. If one of y'all want to get rid it of after you beat it, let me know...

I could give you my copy of Hyper Duel for free, you'd only need to pay the shipment.

I just don't think my copy would be any useful for you, look at it:

My handwriting is awful, too many years using a keyboard. I actually learned to write and read in a computer. :D

My Saturn is modded, bought it that way. That's why it can play backups, though I do have a handful of originals games too :)

Like TFV's, I find Hyper Duel's scoring is best when (mostly) ignored. Who wants to sit still in a high-performance transforming fighter craft? Fuck that, I want to tear through zako as I zip from one heavy to another, transforming to blast each at point blank range with my schoolbus-sized assault rifle. Is all about 100% destructioning at max rank with NO MISS stylin'.

The end-stage bonuses are for 100% enemy destruction, AI buddies remaining alive, super meter remaining and no-miss. I'm pretty sure there's a conflict in there somewhere, never bothered to figure out which ones take priority. The tick points for remaining stationary aren't worth it, AFAIK.

IMO TFIII is their best game, might be easy but I enjoyed it over TFIV and Hyperduel.
Blastwind it is also awesome though

It is pretty easy at least on normal setting as I recall. Still, it is a very nice Game and I would buy it again should I lose my Saturn Copy.

I'd love ot get my hands on Blast Wind but it seems a bit too much to pay these days last time I checked.
