Bootleg pirate game based on Raiden II

Post by Furry Fox Jet Pilot »

According to the track listing for The Aces High: Raiden Rare Tracks http://vgmdb.net/album/7355 I saw this at the bottom of the page:
Raiden II NEW
Tracks 17~21
Composed by: Akira Sato (17, 20), Go Sato (21), -Unknown- (18, 19)
Arranged by: -Unknown- (17, 20, 21)
(This was a bootleg pirate game based on on Raiden II)

Could this be referring to simply a bootleg version of Raiden II new version, or is it an entirely different bootleg game. Can the existence of such a game be confirmed? Whoever has this soundtrack, are tracks 17-21 on disc 2 any different from existing Raiden tracks?

Raiden II New (the game) is a legitimate Seibu release

It's the shitty RII/RDX 'V33 based' PCB from 1996 with the sound system replaced by bootleg quality OKIs.

There is an (undumped) Raiden II 2000 which is the same thing.

I wasn't aware of either having a different soundtrack tho, I think it's the same music, just short poorly sampled loops of it much like the '2000' releases of Raiden Fighters 2 / Jet.

The video I saw of Raiden II New Version (obvious 3rd world edition) being played had muddy sampled versions of the original stage clear and name entry themes, but only 2 really short looping songs for stage BGM and boss area BGM. Nothing worth getting excited about.

It's known that some "China region" Raiden Fighters Jet 2000 PCBs do have the higher quality Yamaha sound chip on-board but on mine, there's the damn lower-quality Oki sound chip installed from the factory.

Best to go with a bona-fide Seibu Kaihatsu SPI motherboard + SPI Raiden Fighters Jet cartridge for that better stereo audio fidelity setup, indeed (assuming your candy cab has stereo support from the get-go).
