Which next-gen console you are interested in?
I'll be on for all three. Hey, why limit myself? I can just buy the games and wait 5 years until the system prices come down, and by that time at least I'll have games in hand, not like the rest of you suckers who will have to resort to paying collector prices on eBay to get the ones you missed.
I have Xbox games already, but I still don't think it's quite time for me to get a Xbox system just yet...

The Revolution gets my vote, hands down. Even if there won't be import downloads of old NES, SNES and N64 games, you're still looking at one heck of a lot of downloads. And if Nintendo's franchises are as good on the Rev. as they are on the Cube, and there's no reason to believe they won't be, then this could easily be the best of the 3. I may get the other 2, but only after some considerable price drops happen-and that's gonna be a few years, at least.
The 360 has simply lost the "Wow!" factor with me, unless we finally get a release date for After Burner 360-and that's just one game. But the bigger issue with me is the fact that the thing should've been backwards compatible OUT OF THE BOX. C'mon, Microsoft are no newbies when it comes to Computer Science and Engineering, and I simply do not buy the argument that they couldn't have done this. They admitted that they started coming up with ideas for the next XBOX in 2002-they had THREE YEARS to work on this, for cryin' out loud.
As for the PS3-one new Gradius game-big deal! V doesn't even hold a candle to Gaiden, in terms of gameplay, IMO, so this hardly excites me. And most of the games in the TGS PS3 trailer, like Gundam, and F1 only appeal to limited fan audiences. I-8 and warhawk look cool enough, but that's about it.

Here's another "buy whichever console the next Gradius game comes out for" from me. Further incentive would be the next Contra and other 2d goodness, though most everybody hasn't been releasing new games for their classic 2d games except Konami.

Neither PS2 Contra game impresses me much, except for the gaphics. S.S. is mindlessly frustrating and makes Gradius III look like a walk in the part, and Neo Contra is simply the worst Contra game I've played since Legacy of War. "We brought back the Spread Weapon" Uhh, no Konami, you didn't-what you brought is a pathetically slow-firing weapon with an even more pathetic range.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Ps3 my friend, ps3.Sly Cherry Chunks wrote:I'll buy whichever console the next Gradius game comes out for.

Brilliant plan dude, in fact that is what I'm planning to do as well. Nothing wrong with hoarding games you don't have consoles for because you're a cheap bastard and have fears of nutty Ebay prices; it's actually pretty good sense. Gotta love planned obsolitance. There's one problem though, it just increases the urge to go out and buy the system at full price because it's driving you nuts not being able to play them. Solution? Lock them in a safebox somewhere and forget about it until you buy the correct console for $50 at your local Gamestop. The only problem with optic laser based hardware is that they are finikicy and don't take abuse as well as a cart-based system.iatneH wrote:I'll be on for all three. Hey, why limit myself? Yeah, the self-control thing is a bit of a problem, depending on how badly I want to play the game. I may very well have to consider that lock-box thing....
It will guarantee myself a copy of the games, but what I didn't say is that while some of them may become rare and valuable, the value of others may simply crash, and I have no way of telling beforehand. Win some, lose some I guess....

If PS3 features quick loads for ps2 games, I'd pick one up eventually
I read yesterday that Blu-ray is much slower than expected. I heard reports that at present time it will take 2 minutes to fill the PS3 memory bank from Blu-ray disc. Which is rather pathetic. Mind you shmups are tiny compared to most games. Although its been promised that PS2 backwards compatibility is assured, the DVD forum has said that blu-ray is not backwards compatible with DVD.. so what gives?
Sony are doomed this time around.. 360 is more than enough power to get relatively close to reality type graphics by 4 or 5 years time and its out now.
PS3 will be the favorite console on this forum for sure due to its catalog of shooters and backwards compatibility.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Contra SS makes Gradius 3 look like a walk in the park? Not the arcade Gradius 3. Contra SS is actually not that hard once you know what you're doing, Gradius 3 arcade is hard no matter what. Gradius 3 Snes is ok hard.dave4shmups wrote:Neither PS2 Contra game impresses me much, except for the gaphics. That's one reason why this revolution console isn't that revolutionary after all.
True backwards compatibility would be if you could stick "Axelay" or Ninja "Gaiden II" cart in it & play right away, instead of having to pay for Roms!![]()
I wonder if somebody has tried to make a "Super-System," i.e. combine the NES, SNES, and N64 together.
Feedback will set you free.

Hmm I think that's more incentive for me to put in a vote for the 360. Sony has pretty damn stupid about the 2d love this generation and it doesn't look like they'll change. Microsoft, though, has been pretty cool with SNK, Sammy, and Capcom when it comes to 2d stuff. Here's hoping they stay that way because I'm a big SNK fan.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Ps3 my friend, ps3.Sly Cherry Chunks wrote:I'll buy whichever console the next Gradius game comes out for.

You bring up some interesting questions about Blu-Ray, but I'd hardly say that Sony is "doomed". If you look at the hardware specs for the PS3, there's little doubt that it will be the most powerful of the 3 new consoles. Plus, there is ample time, before the American PS3 release, next fall, for these problems to be ironed out. It may take that long, if not longer, for Microsoft to make all, or the vast majority, of XBOX games 360-compatible.neorichieb1971 wrote:If PS3 features quick loads for ps2 games, I'd pick one up eventually

Paying $70 dollars and upwards for new blu-ray games may be what hurts the PS3 the most. It's not like we haven't seen new games at that price before-Rennovation, anyone?-but for every, or most every game that comes out? That would definately stink!
I don't doubt Microsoft's openness to SNK, Capcom, and the likes, but it makes little difference to me personally when we just keep seeing these companies, particularly SNK, pump out one cookie-cutter 2D fighter after another. Yes the US XBOX has Metal Slug 3, but it still does not, despite it's power, have even one exclusive shmup, or even boarderliner, for it. Xyanide has not been cancelled, however, it's also getting a PS2 port. And why hasn't SNK released their SNK Classics Collection, or even confirmed it, for Microsoft gaming hardware yet?
I'm sorry, but Senko, and one Treasure shmup, for the 360, just aren't enough to justify a 360 purchase.
Although I do agree with others that it's wise to purchase some of the games before you get the system-unless you pre-ordered a 360, you probably won't be able to get one until March. That's over here in the States, of course; I don't know what the situation in Europe or Asia is, with regards to 360 availability.

Xbox 360.
G.Rev has Senko no Ronde coming to it, Treasure supposedly has a new shmup coming to it, Mistwalker is the creator of Final Fantasy + NiGHTS people + Panzer Dragoon people, Rare putting out a Killer Instinct Compilation set, AND Killer Instinct 3, AND a new Banjo Kazooie (sp?) game? Fuck yes please.
Really, there are way too many reasons I want a 360.
I will also buy a Revolution though. $100-150 for a brand new Nintendo console? Why the hell not!?

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!!!
The Revolution seems like a best bet for me as well, just because I'm tried of having crap shoveled down my throat by Sony and Microsoft. Plus, with the rumors of games become more expensive, I want the best bang for my buck.
I'm going to wait for a while until A) the prices of these machines drop, and B)Good games get released.
EDIT: Check this site out if you're interested: http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/games/crash.html
