Watched your first replay.

Use the laser, brother! Every ship in DDP has a rapid shot and a focus laser (hold the shot button) that makes you move slower but it hits harder. Essential for boss fights (not to mention chaining).

You also might want to start with a more beginner-friendly ship like the C-S.

Yes, as post above mentioned, focus shot is your best friend. Most Cave games have it. Another tip is if you hold back (down) at the "bottom line" of the screen during boss fights your ship speeds decreases even further meaning you can perform even more subtle tap dodges basically by hitting diagonal-back instead of just left or right. Small little tricks of the trade add up in the end.

I always check for this handling characteristic when trying a new shooter, ever since noticing it's handy in Rayforce. It's like determining the character's platform edge falling threshold in a sidescroller. 2D obsession is so good. ^__^

Hah that's what I do as well! You can get alot of information about a game from a few suicides to test the limits....then start to play the game after 20mins of suicide death runs. It can expensive when paying in the arcade, though.

I encourage just about everyone to start with Dodopachi. It's a near perfect introduction into bullet hell. A-L is a great ship choice if you prefer the speed.
