Which next-gen console you are interested in?
Which next-gen console you are interested in?
Okay, so the 360 is out, we know about the Revolution's goofy "remote" controller thing, and the PS3 is still veiled in mystery. With that in mind, which of the three are you most interested in and would be will to blow $400 on?
Personally, I couldn't give two lumpy peanut-decorated shits about any of the next-gen stuff. This is not one of my "anti-mainstream" crusades, it's just apathy, that's all. Plus, I'll be going back to college pretty soon and won't be near a console most of the time, so I'm more interested in handhelds at the moment.
Here's my reasons why the next-gen three don't interest me:
Xbox 360
I had a short-lived job at Circuit City;I quit because having two jobs was really stressful, the double shifts were killer, I kept getting schedule conflicts with the two (wouldn't cloning make our lives much easier?), and I had no spare time for myself. I did manage to however, experience the hell known as the Xbox 360 launch on Nov 22nd, 2005. I had tons of people asking me dumb questions about the system (I can't believe how many times I had to explain to some dumb fuck what was the difference between a Core system and a Premium system), and having to tell them we were out of stock. The whole Core/Premium thing is just dumb because the hard drive is what made Xbox..... Xbox, plus developers would have to cater to the lowest common demonater (i.e, cheap-ass soccer moms buying the system for their spoiled brats), so the hard-drive may not be used to it's full potential. The graphics did look great on the HDTV demo unit, but it's nothing a high-end gamer PC can't do. Plus, these are games that can be bought for a current-gen system. Jumping the gun may help or harm MS, depending on how they handling things (and from the look of it, it's not going well for them, what with short supply and defective units). Chances are likey that the PS3 will blow them away once it's out. MS seems to be repeating history here, Sega did the same thing with the Dreamcast and they were stomped into the ground with Sony's PS2. But Microsoft does have two things that Sega didn't have: Lot's of Money, and Halo.
Chances of me buying an Xbox 360: Slim, and even then if they do away with that Core crap.
Nintendo Revolution
Nintendo certainly seems to be really wanting to go off the beaten path, or dig themselves an early grave, whatever your point of view is. It pains me to see my favorite childhood company to go out of their way to alienated their customers with the Revolution's controller. Sure, I love the concept of being able to swing Link's sword or a lightsaber with the controller, but the controller's design really limits the types of games that can be play. But, then again, they also made the DS, which I was skeptical about, but fell in love with it once the non-gimmicky (aka real) games came out for it. So I'll keep an open mind about the controller. As for the whole "plays old games" deal, it's already exists on PCs and it's free. It's called emulation. But then again, it's nice to have all your favorite games on one system, and not have to worry if that dusty old NES is going to work. I can see the Revolution as a "buddy" system for the PS3 and Xbox 360, much like the Cube was a "buddy" for your PS2 or Xbox. A system that offers games that you can't find on any other system. The age of a Nintendo or Sega only console household is a thing of the past.
Chances of me buying a Revolution: Good. The system is cheaper than the other two, and deep down inside, I'll always be a Nintendo fan. The legal emuation is a nice bonus, I guess. I am wary of the weird controller, however.
Sony Playstation 3
Sony must have hired some retards for their design department, since the system looks like a 1950's futuristic toaster design reject or an aborted George Forman grill, while the controller looks like it was designed by Batman; at least I know it'll return to me if I ever threw it out the window. Sony likes to be all smoke and mirrors, and all I know is that it'll be more powerful than the Xbox 360. Will it give MS a run for their money? Most definitely.
Chances of me buying a PS3: You'd have to gage me and point a gun to my head in order to force me into buying one. I know nothing about the system other than it's retarded design and Sony can kiss my ass.
So there you have it. Sorry for the long post, but I'm a ranty sort of mood tonight. My DS got stolen and I'm pissed about it (strangely enough, my roommate's Xbox didn't get stolen. Weird.)

Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
I'm too busy playing shooters... atleast right now. I'll definitely have to get a 360 for Oblivion and the inevitable Ninja Gaiden 2.
Feedback will set you free.

Indeed. Theres still stuff I want for my cab (Donpachi and Dodonpachi, MVS etc) and my current systems (Homura, maybe Raiden 3), disregarding the other games that I never really finished (i can get to the final boss in ESPGaluda on one cred, never really put much time on Gradius V etc). I'm also playing through Ninja Gaiden Black on hard and normal, playing State of Emergency every so often, and trying to unlock everything in the Warriors...FatCobra wrote:I knew it was a good idea to include that option...Acid King wrote:I'm too busy playing shooters... atleast right now. I chose option 4, although i'm not really that rich. I am a games lover though, and if I want to play the games that will be coming out in the next 5 years then of course I will buy the consoles.
Ikaruga review now up in PLASMA BLOSSOM
Right now I find the Revolution's "philosophy" far more appealing/exciting than the other consoles, even though we haven't seen any games yet. With the 360 and PS3, there isn't much to say; they're basically just upgrades of the current consoles, and I haven't seen any examples yet of games that are really using the increase in power on a more gameplay-oriented level.

Its too early for me to vote. 360 has one or two games I wouldnt mind dabbling on, revolution and Sony PS3 are too far away to get excited about.
tbh I wouldnt pay the money they are asking for the games or the systems, gaming is all about being in vogue now, it has nothing to do with games.
I would rather pay $600 for a PCB or 2 than a 360 with 2 games. With each system comes a price hike, its not good!
For all we know, 360's might only sell up until the early adopters with HDTV's have got them, after that the market for nextgen material might go stale.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

i am officially on the fence until a few things come to light.
-price drops
-region compatibility--looks like microsoft might be taking a step in the right direction by allowing publishers to decide on region specific/free
-shmup availability--i'm done kidding myself, my attention span is so completely shot, these are the games that will matter to me in the new gen... and condemned...

I have no sig whatsoever.
Hmm, interesting. Coz this is one of the few reasons why I decided to get PS2.Neon wrote:Aye.

If PS3 features quick loads for ps2 games, I'd pick one up eventually.
I think my choice of next-generation console will be determined by which (if any) of them will have a faithful translation of Virtua Fighter 5 (probably either PS3 or Xbox 360) although I don't know how any of them will compare with Lindenberg's hardware specs.

I waited several years to finally pick up a PS2...and even then, it was an import one. Basically, if I ever do end up buying anything from the coming generation, I'm going to wait until 1) There are a decent amount of games out for the system(s) that I definitely want to play, 2) The price drops, and 3) Bugs etc. are sorted out.
I've got plenty to play on my current stuff as it is.

I've already got a 360 (camped out overnight on launch day for it, in fact) and I have so far been impressed with several things about it (the wireless controllers are great, as is the use of Live. The biggest drawback to the 360 right now is lack of games (although some of the stuff on Live Arcade is quite good, and relatively cheap.) I do look forward to Full Auto and Ninety-Nine Nights, although I'm not sure when that one is coming out in the US.
I still don't know enough about the Revolution to really know exactly what to expect, but I'll probably end up getting one mainly for the Nintendo back catalog. Whether or not there's any other good reasons to get one remains to be seen, but given Nintendo's track record on the DS, I wouldn't be surprised to see some interesting uses for the controller.
As for PS3, I swore off all Sony products years ago, and I have yet to see any reason why I should reconsider, especially in light of their recent behavior.

You know, now that I think about it, the Revolution might be a great haven for shmups. Why? Not because of the weird controller, but because of the lowered production costs. I think I read somewhere that Nintendo wants to support the little guys, i.e. independent game makers. Being a cheaper platform to port to means that more publishers may be willing to port shmups to it.

I'll probably get the one with the most shoot em ups if there are any.
But then again, the PS-3 is fully backwards compatible to the rich library of PS-1/2 shooters, so that would the 1st candidate for me since only four X-Box 1 exclusive games interest me.
By the way, will the N-Rev be able to play the verified NES/SNES Roms all ready available for the past 10 years in various Rom sites, or the ones in my PC HD?
Or will you be restricted in using only the ones verified & provided by Nintendo?

I'm pretty sure it'll be the ones Nintendo provides, since they want us to pay for them. Although I'm pretty sure some smart hacker will figure out to use our ill-gotten roms on the internet.ST Dragon wrote: By the way, will the N-Rev be able to play the verified NES/SNES Roms all ready available for the past 10 years in various Rom sites, or the ones in my PC HD?

Pay for Roms!?
What a joke!
That's one reason why this revolution console isn't that revolutionary after all.
True backwards compatibility would be if you could stick "Axelay" or Ninja "Gaiden II" cart in it & play right away, instead of having to pay for Roms!

I wonder if somebody has tried to make a "Super-System," i.e. combine the NES, SNES, and N64 together.
Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
Yes there was.
Somebody did make a console that actually combined the NES, SNES, N64 & some other system.
The external case was made out of wood in order to fit the array of different sized cartridge ports.
But alas I lost the pics.
I'll search my old HD in case I have them.

I don't have any current gen sysem, let alone owning a next-gen system in a recent future..
Anyway, here in Brazil the PS2 is the most popular current-gen system. I've met about 5 or 6 people who owns an X-Box, and only 2 who owns a Gamecube (Though one of them owns TWO Gamecubes), which is really weird as the GC was the only one oficially produced here.
I will own a PS2 someday... so I guess I'll proably will own a PS3 someday too (Probably in around 2015, it things keep going like that, heh).
But from all the next-gen systems, the Revoultion is the one that I am most interested.... at least it's offering something different, and I can think about lots of cool stuff that can be made with that controller. Not to mention I've heard (Though I don't know if it's true) that it will be a lot cheaper than the X-Box 360 or the PS2, which is a big plus for my side.
