Shutshimi for Xbox Live

Post by Doctor Butler »

This just came out today.

It's a faux 8 bit Caravan shooter, with a euroshmup shop system. I played the demo, and decided to buy it, because I had a dollar left on my account.

Anyone else see or play this yet?

IIRC there's a PC version as well...tried the demo some time back, very bite-sized segments.

So I bought it, played it for about a half hour before getting bored.

The segments are too short. Hard to get into any sort of rhythm. Shame too since the controls are actually pretty nice (reminiscent of Darius imo) and the powerups could have worked pretty well in a longer, more traditional game.

Its hard to fault someone for trying something new, so I'll definitely give it another chance in the near future. Saw that there were a bunch of unlockables (which is generally a draw for me in games) but I had little desire to play more.

On the PLUS side, it did inspire to put in Deathsmiles (seeing how I already had my monitor tilted horizontally and all, which never happens) and I had a great time for the next two hours. So there's that.

Have you played Game Type? It's another Xbox Indie caravan shooter, but it's leagues better.

The game is now available on Steam and Vita/PS4. It is honestly a lot of mindless fun, like amalgamation of Luftrausers, Jamestown, and Cho Aniki (but in a good way). Not so sure how much it differs from the XBLA version but I've been having a lot of fun with this so far on the Vita.

Got this on PS+ for free this month and though I hate the shortness of the "waves", it is really funny and somewhat addicting.
The soundtrack reminds me of old MSX SCC games too (which is great).

Worth a try. :)

Is the Steam version the same as what was on XBL? The opening post says something about $1, and it's $10 on Steam.

I only own the XBLIG version, but I'm 100% sure they didn't add enough things to justify paying it 10 times as much. Heck, I didn't even find what they added, besides local coop.
Still better than overpriced mobile ports.
