1) if you're dropping this kind of money you shouldn't have to drop more just to preserve the resale value of what you already bought.

2) your plan would only work until they switch off XBLA for the 360. After that nobody else is getting any XBLA games, code or no code.

Unless they have modded systems, which will no longer be a problem when the 360 has no XBL services for people to be banned from.

I don't know whether they were included last time or not, but the things that were just added to the web site are just some gamerpics and premium themes.

Once that happens the download code will be useless, hence affecting the resale value of the Shooting Collection. DLC is all on disc, it's only Guwange out of all the games and modes that will die with XBLA...

Careful with Nin Nin guys. Once your order is placed, they won't let you cancel it for any reason, even if your card hasn't yet been charged.

Won't be dealing with them again.

^ Both their Terms & Conditions and FAQ says items can be cancelled and returned. The 10% fee if you cancel late is a minor drag but better than nothing at all. Did you try contacting them and they said otherwise?
2-5 Cancellations

The Buyer may cancel an order or pre-orde. Any pre-order may be cancelled at no cost until 7 days before the release of the pre-ordered product. When the cancellation occurs after this time, a fee of 10% of the item price is applied to the cancellation. In the same manner, any cancellation of an order that is not a pre-order will infer a fee of 10% of the item price. When an order has been dispatched, it is not cancellable anymore : the Buyer must then refer to the Right of Retractation described below.
I am not satisfied! Can I return my item and receive a refund?
You may exert your right of retractation whithin a time of 7 Days counting from delivery to be eligible for a refund. This right of retractation is however subject to conditions. In order to learn more, please see our General Terms & Conditions.

You can switch the nin-nin website to english (click the US flag at the top). Most of the useful info should be translated.

Try ordering it with a non-Japanese credit card and let us know how you go.
Actually, this is wrong. Amazon Japan accepts non-Japanese cards, they even ship worldwide for movies/books/music.

As well as pc games (like doujin shmups), just not console games and eroge.

I'm thinking of jumping in but I'm not sure yet: any of you play 360 shooters on a CRT flipped on its side? How is it? Does the game screen fully occupy the TV screen or are there still borders with anime girls posing?

(Disclaimer: the only Cave shooters I own/have played are Donpachi and Dodonpachi on the Saturn.)

I play it in an arcade cab with the screen on its side, and it looks like the arcade game.. The intro isn't rotated, but once you get to the game menus and actual gameplay everything is perfect. SDOJ and Mushi Futari have the best setup screen for custom monitor setups.

ah, that's great to know! Some games (like Blast Wind on the Saturn) don't feature a tate option IIRC.

Can you - or anyone else in the know - confirm that all the major/interesting 360 STGs are optimized for tate play?

I think I own every STG For X360, and the only ones that disappoint are Muchi Muchi Pork / Pink Sweets and Under Defeat.
I hear Under Defeat was patched a while back, but I just play the Dreamcast version now. I think the only one that doesn't rotate at all is Radirgy Noa. As far as I can remember, there are zero monitor options in that game.

Under Defeat doesn't completely fill a 4:3 screen (it may work with 16:9?) and I cant remember specifically what it was with MMP / PS. I remember being disappointed, and pretty much never playing it again (not a big fan of either of those titles). I do know that it has a bare minimum of tweakable options... perhaps someone else can help?

Man, I'm about to take a major plunge: getting a Japanese 4 GB 360 slim + the Cave shooting collection kan AND getting a Japanese PS2...

A couple questions:

1. After getting the Cave box, what other Cave (or other developer/publisher) shooters are mandatory? (I must say that stuff like Radirgy and Triggerheart Exelica hold no interest for me, for some reason - they look "low budget" or something.)

2. A bit off topic, but please bear with me: are PS2 Dodonpachi Daioujou and Mushihimesama redundant when you get the 360 versions?

For the record, my favourite shmups are Hyper Duel, Blast Wind, Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, Soukyugurentai, Blazing Lazers, Space Megaforce, Soldier series, MUSHA, etc. That being said, I am looking to branch out and get "full blown" into modern STGs. The graphical aesthetics and music of the few 360 and PS2 Cave shooters I've seen is quite pleasing. (Not a fan of the pandering to the anime-girl fan crowd though, thus one of the reasons why I intend to play the games on a tate setup, lol.)

I recall some missing enemies at one part, but I don't recall if it was patched or not. I thought it was a decent port, just not an attractive menu. PS never clicked for me, but the port had some fun modes that made the game more accessible.

Nintendo Saturn: If you want to blow things up, consider Raiden Fighters Aces and Under Defeat HD.

I'm on the fence about Under Defeat HD: I have yet to play the game (I own Border Down, though)... but I keep hearing the Dreamcast version is best. But is it only the opinion of the folks who played the DC version first or the consensus?

Maybe we're getting a bit too off-topic, but my impression is that if you go for high-level scoring, then dreamcast is the prefferred port as it is closer to the arcade original. But if you prioritize 16:9 HD the Xbox edition might be better for you. But there is a specific thread for that topic. :)

The PS2 versions aren't even comparable to the 360 releases. Seriously - Don't bother getting those on PS2.

I'm one of these people who didn't play UD on DC and I'm totally fine with the Xbocks HD version... and I don't interfere with kids or anything.

PS2 DOJ does have Death Label if you care about that. Not sure if the 360 arcade port has any notable issues though, but 360 is BL which includes WL anyway.

DDP Daioujou is playable in 480p on ps2. It looks AMAZING in Tate mode on an arcade monitor. Even with the patch for xbox, DDP Daioujou is still a little blurry.

Didn't DOJ on the PS2 actually support 240p, as well? I thought that both that and Espgaluda did.

In any case, the PS2 version is a hell of a lot sharper than the 360 version. I guess it's worth having both, since PS2 has White Label and 360 has Black Label... but the PS2 version is, as far as I'm concerned, vastly superior.
