LAST DAY to order an STG Weekly T-Shirt!!!

Post by Softdrink 117 »

T-Shirt preorders close at midnight! Go here to learn more!

We already mentioned this in the current STG Weekly episode thread, but I thought it would be prudent to create a new thread to handle interest and feedback so that we can keep things more organized.

At the moment we are considering a number of different printers, including the forum's own EllertMichael. We plan to print on Gildan cotton shirts, so please be aware of the sizing and fit characteristics. We are aiming for a shipped price in the $20-$30 range, but we aren't 100% committed to any printer or shipping method yet, so price is not yet firm.

Here are some basic designs I threw together based only on the show's logo and some suggestions from different people. I have some plans for some more complex designs as well. Keep in mind that these are only rough previsualizations; there are a couple small errors here and there (like text not perfectly matching the contour of the shirt, or things being slightly off center) that obviously won't be an issue on the final shirt.

VI, with the addition of the STGW logo ship to the back, has been chosen as the final design by popular demand!

These look great softdrink! I know that if you order in larger amounts the price goes down and if you are planning on doing more appearances I'm sure you will be able to sell out of stock pretty quick.

6 is probably my overall preference, but if I had to choose between 1 and 4, I'd opt for 1.

Regardless of the design, you'll have my money if the price comes out to your target rang!

I'd buy one B-) It would be awesome if there was an option to get it signed by the crew but I realize that that's probably not doable since you guys are scattered across the globe.

I prefer design I, IV and VI but they're all really good!

I like the ones without a blob on the back.

I dig I, VI and VII. Are these prototype designs, or do you intend on making them all available?

I'd go for Type VI, but regardless I'd buy one.

These are prototypes. It would be very hard to make them all available unless we went through a print-per-order service, which generally means a *huge* reduction in print and material quality or a price hike. If anyone has a service that they can recommend that would handle print-per-order well then by all means please let us know. At the moment we are planning to do interest checks here and on facebook/twitter/youtube; once we have what seems like a reasonable estimate on the number of shirts we'll put in a single large order for maybe 1.25-1.5x the number of confirmed interested parties, depending on how many that is exactly. Setup costs are generally the expensive part with printing; if you want something high quality it tends to either be a very expensive one-off or part of a much cheaper per-unit bulk order.

It seems like the ship on the back is kinda polarizing. So far 1 and 6 are pretty tied up. Again, any of these choices is fine, and if you have an idea that isn't represented on here just let me know!

As far as signatures go-- depending on how we handle distribution it might be possible to get signatures from a couple people-- like me and Frenetic maybe since we live closeish to each other. Alternatively, we could have the sigs printed onto the shirt... but personally I'm not a huge fan of that in most cases; it tends to have that "summer camp" look. :V

Without the YouTube channel address, I don't really see the point of these shirts, sorry.

Heh. You have a point there. I was actually planning on adding versions of these which included that information once we got a little further in figuring out what designs people liked. :D

Fun fact: the STG Weekly ship is actually a unique design of my own making. It admittedly takes a lot of design cues from the shape of the Raiden Mk II, but they actually have significantly distinct silhouettes when compared with each other. See for yourself:

Image Image

Raiden Mk II on the left, and STGW ship on the right. One of the goals that I had when working on the design was to make something which was visually very evocative of the Raiden ship while being unique on closer inspection. I definitely kept the design very close to the original, but that was an intentional choice; when I think about iconic vertical STG ship design, the Raiden Mk II really stands out to me as being emblematic of the genre. Maybe that has more to do with my personal experiences when I was younger with Raiden in arcades, but nobody has complained so far.

If anyone feels like they're too close for comfort I can draw up some sketches of what a non-pixelated version of the ship would look like to dispel that impression.

I think URLs generally look really tacky on shirts. And it's not as though I'm going to run into many people who would be interested in "STG Weekly" and be willing to type in a URL that they saw on my shirt, but not be willing to ask me about it.

I think the designs are quite nice, but I'm one of those people that are particular about what they wear. In specific I am not too fond of lots of writing or huge letters. I don't know, I feel like a walking billboard with that.

I know it's partly a promotional tool but I find the 'STG Weekly' in such large print cheapens the design a bit. I don't mind the STG part but 'weekly' just kind of makes it look like a t-shirt giveaway thing.

I quite likely may be in a minority but those are my only gripes (oh and I don't like heavy cotton) :)

The 'point' of a shirt that people pay for? ... Design and function aren't enough that we need ugly, ephemeral web addresses too? Why not plaster every social media link as well while at it?

That's certainly part of the reason; after all, I never printed my Garegga and Batrider T-shirt designs because I couldn't get rights to the characters (never even got replies back lol). It would not have been responsible of me as a designer to put a logo together using material that is not completely my own.

I also just wanted it to be a unique logo.
