Was just playing it and I am pretty sure that's right. Switching weapons is kind of weird though, sometimes you seem to need to build the properties back up, other times not (??).

Cool. I think that some properties are more visible on say, that barbed wire weapon (very tiny unless you have a full RED stock), but for the shooter (default weapon) as long as you have YELLOW and BLUE, it will look like a big deal.

I love the Whip myself and seldom change it.

Thanks! I'm up to the end of stage 3 now. It's a pretty awesome game.. I love the art (Genesis ver)-- it looks like something Psygnosis might have put out back in their prime. The movement limitations actually add a lot to the game, too. I kind of wish there had been one more gimmick though, maybe having an advantage to jumping on an enemy vs. just shooting them.

I never played the Genesis version, but in the arcade version this is sometimes a requirement for some passages. And yes, not being able to run to the left (except during boss fights) is a great design. I remember "halting" was an important move in the game to position yourself for some important areas.

You really, really have to give the Megadrive version a go if you have any love for the game at all. It is very great.

So true. I'm not sure if the arcade one even had all the gameplay elements, like firing faster if you halt. In addition, the Genesis graphics are so good it makes me wish everything on that platform looked like it. It a brilliant and subtle use of shading, and great parallax effects, and I feel like overall the mood is more consistent. And the music rules.

Well...it took me 15 years to be able to stand the game, and a week to put together a good run, but I finally got the Genesis 1cc. In the end, it left me wanting more out of it and sad that it's a truly unique game.

Cheap as hell, though.

Seriously, the levels are mostly cakewalks except for the 2-3 instances of sniper wasps and flying spider-skull canons. I suppose the (mostly) piss-easy bosses and MADroid safespot exploitation make up for it. Also, screw you hopping robot bunnies.

I'm partial to the Genesis Atomic Runner myself, it has much more depth to the stages than the arcade version had going. Different stage themes, and more music for each stage helps. I do like me some Data East (Magical Drop yes) and Atomic Runner definitely fits the bill for challenge.

It is nice to be able to hear a different song for each stage, and not one theme for 6 stages, then a new one for the final stage.
