Thanks a lot for the info. I can see how you are so good at recovering, and just have a very good familiarity with all the levels. Especially down the line with later levels where there is more of an emphasis on memorization. Does the ps2 ver allow level select so you can practice specific levels?

Yes, the PS2 version lets you select to start at any checkpoint that you've previously reached. So you can pretty much "credit feed" all the way to end using this feature to reach all checkpoints.

Something just occurred to me. I always only ever use weapon type A. When playing with Wait off, does it make a big difference what weapon type you are using. I've never seen a wait 0 1cc of gradius 3 done with type a. Have you experimented much with weapon types?

I've only used type B since I feel it's the strongest and most versatile. Type A & C are also pretty good but type D sucks. Freeway shot is just too awkward to use, at least for me. I've seen some decent weapon edit setups too, but for the most part type B is the best. As far as I know the 1cc I posted is the only no wait full run of G3.

I remember in the STG weekly episode on gradius 1-3 many were saying it's impossible to recover in gradius games. Would be cool to have an index that prove otherwise. SDOJ is really kicking my ass. I can't really get to stage 5 consistently. Think I'm going to take a break on this one and play something else. I own a Muchi Muchi Pork port so maybe that. Or maybe Ketsui, but those swirly bullets in Stage 5 make absolutely no sense to me!

Unfortunately I deleted all of my previous recordings, they take up a lot of space and there would have been hundreds of them. If Aquas wants to cover the Gradius games again I'd be down, I think there is A LOT more stuff that could be shown and documented. Each game deserves it's own video IMO.

And speaking of 1CC, I just beat the Gradius 1 arcade port for the PS1, on the hardest difficulty (special difficulty that is exclusive to this port and harder than the highest on the original arcade). You can only get 1 extra life on this difficulty and there's suicide bullets even on the first loop (a first for a Gradius game?). Once again I died a bunch near the end but pulled it off (after about 40-50 failed runs). I'll post the video when it's uploaded.

Hey guys, not long ago, a little bit before April ended (In my area, at least), I actually managed, with some practice, some further improvement in scoring, and looking up techniques in YouTube and elsewhere, to pull off a vastly improved 1cc of Deathsmiles MBL 1.1 arrange mode, this time, w/ one of the extra stages beaten! I didn't actually think I'd seriously get this one down before the end of April 30th, but yeah, I managed to pull it off! Here it is, well, the screenshot of it, at least:

Yeah, I know, the screenshot says PT"X". I got so jittered after that playthrough, that I think I actually clumsily forgot to put in the "G". How clumsy of me, lol. I guess now, I can see, if I can try to get the Gorge stage down as well, and get that included some time soon in a future playthrough.

Anyhow, whew, I haven't felt this good, since first beating Mokou and getting that 1st ever Lunatic 1cc of PoFV! This is too awesome! What a way to end off April! And to think I pulled this off before getting more Lunatic 1ccs of the other Touhou games! Come on, May 6th, pass already!

Thanks, my #1 goal was to create videos of runs on real hardware without all that emulator save-state cheating junk that is in 99% of the videos on youtube (for instance everything on that cubex55 channel). Sure, I may pump out videos at a much slower rate and get way less viewers, but at least all my stuff is legit.

If you click on the "about" tab in his channel he says almost all of the videos are "tool assisted". He doesn't even really try to hide the fact but most people just don't realize it.

Yup, most anything listed as a "longplay" is generally not meant as an achievement but rather just showing off the game, hence most of them are tool assisted when it's not too hard to just wlak through them otherwise.

Finally cleared 6C and 6R tonight (and did it with about 3 lives left in either case). Now I have the first 6 levels of rRootage normal mode clear! 7 seem real freakin' hard though. super fast bullets 'n shit. I think Kenta Cho was trying to be Psikyo or something.

Cleared Eschatos Easy-Original this morning. Did it on my first credit after not playing the game for a few months (set it aside after clearing Easy-Advanced on Thanksgiving). Not really celebrating anything other than having a new reason to play one of my favorite games in any system; time to try for Normal clears.

Whoa I am so proud of this. This is probably the best performance I've ever done in my shmupping career. I just cleared Caladrius Boss Rush with non-custom Lilith and took 9th overall on the leaderboards. 9th. With no custom weapons, no cheap-ass shield, nothing but raw determination. And let me tell you, a Boss Rush clear is a hell of a lot harder than just clearing the game is due to limited resources. I'd love to see if anyone else above me did their run default, but unfortunately the leaderboard doesn't tell you.



I'm twitching with so much adrenaline right now... X_X

Yeah, go for that. Its a very beginner-friendly Cave game and quite fun when you're new. Also, think about picking up EspRaDe. I don't think its that much harder but its also a lot of fun.

Espgaluda is very friendly until the final stage and final boss...bit it is really fun! Just learn the patterns of the final boss and go in to the fight with as many resources as you can.

Try out some of the other cave stuff and see what one you like or suits you the most.My cave clear order was something like this:

Dodopachi daifukkatsu 1.5
Mushihimesama hd
Espgaluda
Donpachi
Dodonpachi

I'm not sure if that's a normal progression it terms of ease...having said that donpachi is fairly friendly for a next step...good luck with whatever you choose!

Got the Jitterbug clear on Deathsmiles IIX tonight. I bombed during the final boss fight, so I didn't expect the cake to pop out or Jitterbug to appear (since you don't get the cake if you bomb the last boss in DS1).

Does the rest of X mode have any life extends? I'd have been a little more aggressive with scoring if I could count on an extra life or two during the run.
