Ugh...Banned from GameFaqs!
Yep. I just found out that I'm now banned from GameFaqs...not punished for a week, not moderated...simply banned/exiled/condemned to eternal hell I suppose.
Anyway, its not really that big of a deal. At least I didn't think so.
I was visiting the Resident Evil 4 message board because I'm currently obsessed with it, and during the discussion someone brought up the age factor, and the game being inopropraite for younger audiences. Well, I agree pretty much, but instead, as a joke I posted that I was only 12 years old and that I threatened my parents with death if they didn't buy it as an early Christmas present.
I guess Gamefaqs mods or some stupid "computer narcs" failed to see the irony in that post.
So yea, I didn't threaten or use foul language, no censorship bypass either. But they still have the power to ban for that?
Whatever!
PS: Its not really my "loss" of the site, but more my persona there is now locked away in some dark, dank dungeon never to see the light of the message boards again.

There is lotsa people over at 'faqs that are dicks. For example, you go and say something a lot of people don't agree with and it's considered trolling not an opinion. And naturally, your message/thread gets removed. I like it here 'cause I've never been "moderated" by other users for stating an opinion, no matter how wild people think it is. i.e. saying X games suck because something about it annoyed me.
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

C'mon, Twitch. You should've known. GameFAQs has always had a zero tolerance policy for anybody saying they were underage, regardless of whether it was a joke or not. Don't take it personally. They just want to avoid legal trouble and I can understand that.
It IS ironic though that Cnet (who now own GameFAQs) condone piracy ads on GameFAQs. Just search for Trizeal (http://www.gamefaqs.com/search/index.html?game=trizeal) and check out the 2nd link. Hypocrisy at its best considering GameFAQs suspends users for offering illegal services.
I've only gotten modded once on GameFAQs (which was immediately overturned) so they're pretty fair about it IMO. As for people, I could probably count the people who actually know their RPGs on there in 1 finger. I wouldn't mind the newbies but not one of them during my 5 years there has ever bothered to look deeper in the genre. That's what I like about Shmups: no matter how obscure the game, there's likely another person who's played it or a similar version. And new people are always playing more and more shooters. I recall some people here who originally had only played the most popular shooters but by now have played a huge library. Thus, it's a lot easier to relate to the other people here who've shared the same experiences and still share the same interest.

Yea, I kinda find that annoying as well.Bloodreign wrote:Reason number 5000 why I'll never join GameFAQ forums, one of the other reasons are the kids which take a game board, start saying it's theirs, then proceed to have their buddies spam it to death, and never ever talking about the game itself, which board they are on.
Here's a few that I discovered...
Turbo CD game "Prince of Persia"...its some Arabic discussion forum.
Turbo CD shooter "Cotton"...its a Christian discussion forum. I find that REALLY ironic because the game features a witch flying on a broomstick!!!
Also, I really didn't think I would get into trouble over my post over there. Go ahead and check it out if you want. Personally, I think Gamefaqs is bullshit with their stupid rules and moderations.
Who cares if its an age factor? My profile clearly states my age(although anyone could lie anyway)
Besides, there are many, many kids playing these types of games.
Resident Evil is really no more violent than the latest "combat sim FPS"...
afterall, those bullets aren't tickling their intended targets.
Anyhow, I digress...
I don't really mind obscure game boards being used for other, themed discussion, I guess. What does make me sad is all the "this borde si mine!!1! ololol" threads that crop up. I used to mark them as offtopic, but I never saw one get deleted, so I gave up.
On the whole, GameFAQs is pretty good with FAQs, but the boards are full of children.

"Can they really get inside my head?"
"As long as you keep an open mind."
"As long as you keep an open mind."
Some of its current FAQ editors are idiots too. They turned down the one FAQ that was submitted for Vampire Darkstalkers Collection because it didn't have a movelist even though it was clearly all about unlocking secrets (and was very clear about it). Now there aren't any FAQs for the game nor codes for the game and any newcomer is curious to know how stuff gets unlocked.
Add to the fact innumerable date and release errors after migrating to the new database over a year ago, mixups like unions between a domestic and import title even though both are completely different (One Piece) and developer errors (Vay), and these new don't-know-shit-about-FAQs editors...and you've got a messed up place. Still, for more recent popular games, it's still the best place to turn to for answers.

Indeed, for most of the GameFAQs boards, that would be true both literally and figuratively.shiftace wrote: but the boards are full of children.

I'm just pissed because I had been there for many years. No, I'm not a post whore, or one of those "Karma" freaks, but I had some standing...Legendary to say the least.
I just hope that the petty faggot who reported my post for moderation and got me banned loses his job for something equaly as stupid!!!

Petty faggot = nothing sexual, just some fucking annoying wimp I'd like to stomp out of exsistance!

Tough luck to GameFAQ's, they lost a damned good poster.
Thanks!...but I'm not sure if there's any sarcasm attached to that statement.
Man, I even tried to re-register...but I cannot. How do all these useless idiotic posters prevail over there anyway!?
I re-read the rules, and maybe I was banned because I said I was only 12 in that ONE post! The rules state you have to be at least 13 to start up an account there.
Can I email my grief to some "mods" or I'm I forever gone over there?
Its also VERY rare that I post stupid shit at GameFags...I know the rules, and I'm also not an idiot.
I just wanted to make a joke with some irony...I didn't know that I was going to be banned forever!!!!(I wasen't swearing or trolling)
Anyway, GamFaqs is cool for reviews, and other opinions, but the message boards are ridickalick!
Boycott Gamefaqs!!!

Thats very true...but I don't like the fact that somebody can come along and "narc" on you, and even more, "ban" you from one of your favorite websites for virtually nothing.FatCobra wrote:Eh...maybe it's good you got banned.
Reading the forums there makes me feel like my IQ points are lowered.
Maybe you're right after all...I don't need that place anyway. Fuck them...and their mothers!!!

No, no sarcasm in my above post they truly did lose a good poster.

That's the spirit, I mod/admin a few forums, thankfully we don't have GameFAQ type problems where I help run the board.

I don't even visit the gamefaq forums, only check their faqs sometimes.
But I do have to agree with landshark.
Some comments can be taken seriously by others who might try it your way then.
Where I work they have a lot of new security measures since 9/11.
Lately someone joked about having a bomb in his bag.
He immediatly was denied acces to the plant and probably got problems with his boss for it.

No offense, but as you can see, the rules were clearly stated: you say you're underage, regardless of sarcasm, and you're out. In fact, many people have deliberately used this rule as an easy way to get banned.TWITCHDOCTOR wrote: I re-read the rules, and maybe I was banned because I said I was only 12 in that ONE post! If GameFAQs didn't do this, any parent who had an underage kid who saw could claim that GameFAQs was knowingly containing illegal information about children under 13 under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and could sue them out their ass. GameFAQs has a very good reason for adhering to this zero tolerance policy; it's not just for kicks. Claiming you were joking doesn't mean anything; if actually sueing, a parent could still claim that a notice about being underage was there but nobody cared.
If you really want to see if your account can be straightened up, you might want to try contacting CJayC. He's helped out people before who've done this sort of thing as a joke.
Gamefaqs really is a pretty lame place but two of the boards I go to on there are alright.
The Books and Literature board- These guys are cool. Dan Brown can go choke on my left nut, my brothers! Right on!
The Fighting Games Board- I'll be honest, most of the guys on this board are freakin idiots. If it's not a trashy tekken game or something made by Capcom, they couldn't give a crap. They were smart enough to pass on Capcom Fighting Evolution though which is cool and they pass on some cool strats on SF3 and SFA3.

I remember how someone got banned from that place because the guy accidentally wrote in "12" instead of "21" as his age... and not knowing how the "preview message" thing worked did him in!
"blueskied" was forced to change his name to "twe" at GameFAQs too, so hey...
Oh yeah, one time I got moderated at the Shenmue board for quoting a rather lengthy message that happened to have a censor bypass. SHEESH.

FatCobra took the words out of my mouth.
I hardly ever post because I rarely find a topic that seems intelligent enough for me to want to contribute, and I almost never create new topics because they instantly get buried under all the other stupid crap.
That being said... no offense TWITCH but I, like landshark, find your joke to be tasteless and not very funny. Agreed that it was petty to have you banned for it, but I know you're better than to make posts like that. Attribute it to a temporary lapse in judgement.
Not that I haven't posted stupid things here and there either...

I understand what you're saying regarding the age thing, but like I said before, some kid could always lie about his age anyway, so really...the whole age thing becomes pointless.

Well the "petty faggot" is very likely much more stupid than you think, it can't read even simple English, taking orders by the word, doesn't not know to think by itself and paid by electricity. And sorry it won't lose its job even it makes a big mistake.TWITCHDOCTOR wrote:I'm just pissed because I had been there for many years. Modern comimcel sites use computer program routine to do the inital moderate job. The computer remove posts and banned users automatically. Hunman moderator only handle complans on the computer actions afterward.

Recently I got one of my listing removed and received a strike on eBay very soon after I had listed. It a plastic Gundam model kit. The MS name is GUN CANNON. And this alone cause it to violate the Fire Arms & Weapon Control policy!?!?

I complane via email instantly and get my account back a few days later.

*Meow* I am as serious as a cat could possible be. *Meow*
Don't even think about posting pictures of your awesome supergun setup in console general boards. Nobody gives a crap because they think that TV stands from Ikea are cooler. Oh, and the few people who actually are remotely interested in arcade stuff think that X-Arcade makes good stuff.
Sorry to derail your thread TWITCH :)

Gamefaqs is full of morons, but it's still a good place to go for information. A really good discussion pops up there once in a blue moon. And it's the only place I can discuss Atari's later systems with fellow fans & critics.
Twitch, isn't there a process for appealing a ban? I could have sworn there was. If not, you can always email CjayC like Ganelon mentioned.

I know you can fight a "moderation"...you'll hardly ever win though.
As far as a "ban", I really don't think so...as there was no email letting me know of this happening. As far as GameFaqs goes, I can't even get there...unless I'm logged out(no TWITCHDOCTOR warm welcome)
So, how would one email CJAYC about this anyway? I was only banned for supposidly being 12. (joke) My real age and birthdate is listed in my profile, so I don't know.
Oh yea, and I do like posting on some game boards. I find some of the threads "intertaining" to say the least. Then again, most all trolls and morons tend to congregate over there as well.
