Their lids open up and spit out a VMU (with the high pitched beep the VMUs made when you turned them on) before they explode into a spread of bullets. Another cool little homage.
Pretty sure this was in Shooting Love 200X as well.

I think you're right but it's ages since I've played those challenges

In SF destroy the 1st hidden block with your non rapid fire shot. In 8 Bit shoot all of the 1st invaders with non rapid shot. In Asteroid destroy all of the pink exploding balls. In Power Up shoot all of the 1st 2 groups of non hostile enemies and collect all of the stars so you cycle through all options without using any of them. No idea how to trigger the frog in Boss mode.
Q. In 8 Bit sometimes the frog gives 10000 points, other times 30000. I've no idea how to make it give 30000 each time. Anyone know? It might give different point values in the other modes too but I've not tested it yet.
I managed to get age rating 19 on Shooting Ginoukentei aka Shmup Skill Test (run starting at 3h01m09s) and age rating 18 on Action Ginoukentei (run starting at 4h36m28s), for those who are curious to how to reach those teen age ratings. <3
I'm still horrible at Pengo~

At the very beginning of the stage, you pull a Radiant Silvergun by shooting the far right corner of the screen, you reveal a red ring secret and the frog will show up soon after! :3

Thanks - I'll try the Boss mode frog trick when I get in tonight as I need to boost my score on that mode. I'll be sure to check out your Twitch stream too.
I still hate the fact that if 2 people of equal skill are competing that the person who uses hardware autofire on the 'regular' shot button has a big scoring advantage over the player who is sticking to the in game control set up. You can take down big enemies much faster with the non-auto shot when pairing it with autofire and it gives much better scoring potential.
This perhaps has the most limited content of any retail STG I own, but the razor-sharp focus and finetuned mechanics are very well suited to short, intense bursts of play. It's also quite rare for the genre to feature 4P multiplayer. CombatZeal's Powerup mode has a very interesting and exhilarating dynamic of survival that's like nothing else I've played. I still think this would have been more ideal as a $10-$15 XBLA download, though Strania proved that handling ultra-niche games this way doesn't always make the most financial sense, when a large portion of your limited audience is happy to be gouged at full price. At any rate, I hope Triangle Service has another game left in them.
It's too bad that many sections of the games are broken by autofire (most notably, the comical doorbell-mashing minigame), but it was probably unavoidable given their nature. I also noticed that "Achievements" was spelled correctly this time around.
I did not buy the limited edition, does it have another PDF file on the soundtrack CD?
I just checked and no pdf's, just 63 music files. I've gotta agree on the whole 'this should have been a £10 DLC game' thing but I think we all knew this before the game got released. There's actually another way you can easily break parts of the game other than using autofire that I discovered but I'm not going to go into that. I think it's probably well known and it would certainly explain a couple of replays I'd seen back on the old 200X release. I tried it out on one of the challenge modes and it still uploaded my score
Anyway, it's a fun game, totally overpriced, kinda broken and a bit limited but I've got a real soft spot for Triangle Service.
I just wanted to know the people who bought the game on ami ami did you get the pengo mug???
I haven't received mine yet so I'm still wondering if Amiami included it. Playasia I guess , was giving it.
It's a shame that this lacks online play, as Pengo! could potentially support 8 simultaneous human players. You sometimes see their slots controlled by the CPU in arcade mode.
Of course, organizing 8 owners of this game at the same time would be a difficult feat.
I assume that since Pengo doesn't support online play, it also doesn't support link play? Not that I'd want to buy 2 copies of this for just Pengo, but it would be fun to mess around with a full complement of human players for a tournament at a show or something.
Is this game available on "Games On Demand" in the US? I can't seem to find it. I know that there is a hard copy version region free Japanese version, but some earlier comments here suggest that this game should have been less expensive than it is.
I already bought Shooting Love 200X sometime back. I wish that there was some continuity in releases. Some are hard copy while others are GOD only, at lease in US versions. I have Deathsmiles 1 GOD, but if I want Deathsmiles II I can only get it GOD! I wish that it was either / or.
