Is it known if the game will be exclusive to Steam even in Japan? I could potentially see Yotsubane doing this if he wants to support the platform and spread awareness of Steam among Japanese players.

let's hope for a physical release instead… or even better: a console release (xbox or ps3 or ps4 or xbone or wiiu… the same for me)

A number of people like Erhune were mentioning it as well last month, I suspect they got some input though.
Of course the details weren't known at the time.
Thanx for noticing

I actually knew all about it since my last trip to Tokyo in January where I personally met Clover-Tac and confirmed by Erhune, I was just holding the secret since then

I played the Nesica version, and it will be a lot harder but also it IS a lot prettier now too. Believe me, the people who are disapointed won't be, as it's such an improvement from the ALREADY AWESOME original PC version.

And the "boost mode" kick ass big time

Fixed.

I get why physical releases are a thing (wanting something tangible, etc.), but physical-only would just make it harder for us filthy gaijin to be able to buy the game and support the developer, as one would have to factor in costs for import shipping, among other things.

Plus, physical releases of PC games are all but dead in the West, or at least in the US. It's the inverse of Japan with regards to physical vs. digital.

I for one fully support digital releases. Digital-only > No release at all.

(That said, no ill intended towards Rancor, regarding physical releases; he does his job well and it's nice to have physical copies. I just feel that a digital release has the potential for wider reach.)

I'm hoping for an exclusive Philips CD-i release shipped by traditional Japanese sailing craft.

Don't forget the poorly-animated cutscenes, the cringe-inducing voice acting, and the painfully trivial final boss.

I'm excited to hear about this. If Crimzon Clover is on Steam, then hopefully it will reach a wider audience of people. It would be great if CC could see success on the level that Jamestown did. The easy availability of Steam will also make this game my new snap recommendation for new players. Crimzon Clover is insanely fun, but I couldn't recommend it before because I'd heard the game was increasingly difficult to find and purchase.

Exactly. I'm a collector, so I'd enjoy having a swanky physical release to slot on my shelves with all the others, but satisfying that desire is far less important and exciting than getting this game played by a wider audience.

A great point. If Crimson Clover's coming accessibility were to see the game serve as a new ambassador for the genre – and in particular shmups so directly linked with the culture of Japanese arcades – all us devotees to the genre could be set to benefit from the knock on effect, in terms of new games and such.

To long for a physical is one thing; to lambaste the game just because there's only a digital version planned seems a little contrary to the spirit of getting the genre enjoyed by more people.

I'd enjoy that physical release, but I'm far more enthusiastic about the potential of the accessibility a Steam version brings. This game sure has my support, especially having seen Icarus show how great it is on stage at Stunfest.

I think Jamestown's success owed significantly to its recognizable and familiar, yet fantastical "American Revolution in space" setting, which resonates with Western audiences particularly well. Crimzon Clover's audiovisuals are too indistinct in nature, and it doesn't have any likable characters for people to latch on to like the Touhou series does.

I doubt it will have much impact beyond the usual crowd of established STG fans.

Very cool news, while I will probably plumb for the Steam version I hope a DRM free / boxed version is released.

I just hope the constant explosions and colorful numbers will make up for the lack of any "character". I mean hey, Americans love explosions.

There's no public final date yet (unless things have changed in the last 24 hours), but I don't think we'll be waiting too long.

Omg I'm so hyped for this. Being on steam will give me a chance to let friends know about the genre, and finally have a solid shooter that I can recommend.

Btw, so it seems confirmed, that yotsubane is indeed clover-TAC

I would like to be optimistic and assume that Crimzon Clover's extreme garishness will be novel enough to garner at least some curiosity. I can't name any other games that have neon, Christmas-colored explosions that look like fireworks going off.

I doubt it'll see any marketing at all, but the game has got some visual pizazz to it.

Maybe when it comes out we can all harass high-profile youtube LPers into playing the game. You know, get some grassroots advertising going.

Too many casual browser and mobile games to count.

Right, let me say it again.
What's so hard for people to understand that he wants to keep this as a secret?
Posting with the mindset "well everyone knows already?" "isn't it obvious already?" doesn't help.
If he really wants it to be a secret, show him some respect damnit.
Think about it, and when you're done, consider editing your posts a little.
He is still releasing and probably developing stuff too, and as long as he doesn't say about it himself, please be quiet about it. It stuns me how many people do not seem to care about this :?

If he wanted to keep it a secret he probably shouldn't have answered interview questions about the development of the game and his future dev plans during last year's Stunfest? Just saying.

Help what? That it's not a secret? That it's easily found out with 30 seconds of research?

He hasn't told me or anyone else I know that this is a Clark Kent / Superman masquerade. Where did you get this information?
