well everybody will give you a different opinion... i am very old school and would get Striker 1945 for the MVS> Not necessarily the best one from your list but that's the one I'd get.

thanks! Honestly, a neo shooter would be the most practical one to go for at this time. I was playing Areo Fighters today and enjoyed it. Pretty new to shmups obviously....so I just wanted to get some opinions to narrow it down before an excellentcom order.

and 30 views with one opinion,lol....

Do-Donpachi II / Bee Storm (Chinese Version) igs
This game stuck. Althrough IGS did got the orginal source of DDP from Cave to develop this, DDP II is no where a decent Shmup. Aviod, aviod.

Striker 1945 II pcb > Striker 1945 Plus mvs > Sonic Wings 3 mvs
These games is much the less similar, Striker 1945 II pcb is the best.

Terra Diver (Soukyugurentai) stv
A great game from Rizing.

Change Air Blade pcb / Sengeki Striker pcb
Don't know much about these games.

So IMO you should either get Striker 1945 II pcb or Terra Diver (Soukyugurentai) stv or one of those I can't comment.

I agree with SAM. Strikers 1945 II, and Soukyugurentai definitely stand out in the crowd. I *really* like Strikers 1945 II, so I'm kinda leaning that way, but Soukyugurentai's a fav too. I'd say get either one of those two. Keep in mind, both games have excellent console ports: Souky on Saturn's perfect, as the Saturn's basically an STV, and I can say the Saturn version of Strikers 1945 II's pretty good as well. ;)

Soukyugurentai is my favorite of the ones listed.

Change Air Blade is my least favorite. It's the coolest idea ever the first five minutes you play it.

I like Strikers 1945+ despite what some of the critics here say. It's like Strikers 1945 II with different patterns and some other differences.

id get DDP2, best of that bunch tho i havent played sengeki striker, seems pretty cool too.

strikers1945 series bore the hell out of me with its ugly palette and tired leveldesign.

Strikers 1945 plus is really difficult I think. Its a damn good game but be warned its hard as nails.

Strikers 2 is the only one of those that doesn't suck, so I'd go with that. Disagree about the Saturn version being good, it's got severe slowdown, worse graphics, and a higher price than the PSX port. Worse in every way.

both Strikers 1945 games are excellent (II and Plus). Plus has tighter patterns, slower bullets in 2 colors making it easier to figure out the patterns, and an even more dense level design than II (less pauses between attacks). Technically, II is superior except for the explosions: it runs smoothly, with more colors and better boss animations, and of course it is tate. Superficially, both games are very similar, though, and only the hardest Psikyo fans will consider buying both, so if you´re not sure which one to get, you might want to wait until you played both for a considerable time.
Bee Storm, Sonic Wings 3 and Terra Diver are nowhere near the same league as the Strikers games. The other 2 games, I haven´t played.

Since it's you saying that raiden, I'll have to try plus again. I remember loving it till I tried Strikers 2 and Dragon Blaze.

Get Sengeki.

Few have it.
Very Exotic.

So huh?
Santa gave you these choices?
Because prices vary, or your pcb wholesale buddy offered you one of these pcb's?

Alternative: check for the most expensive and sell it to buy the TWO you really want

well, all of these range from $40 for ddp2 to $82 for the strickers 1945 II pcb. + shipping on those. Everything else falls in between. There are a few $99 games I guess I could pull. I just sold a game and have a bit of cash. Some going to my anniversary on Friday and some going to a shooter. I just found striker 1945 on the ps1 for $3 at the flea and played some aerofighters at the local round table....so I am in the mood for a shmup. I would like to stick with getting one game at a time so I actually start putting some time into it.

I was leaning more towards striker 1945 Plus just because I can put it in my neo cab. Any vert pcb would need me to rotate the monitor on my little cab and take out the pgm and soul calibur. If it's that much better, then I can go for it. I can dual up a couple of vert shmups in there and be just as happy, but the monitor is only 19"...

A vert setup does have a big draw though.....

Where's the $85-99 batrider? I've been looking for that.

Strikers 1945 on US PSX = Strikers 2, so you've already got that game, just without tate.

from your list get:

--batrider (amazingx1000, and as with anything raizing, this should keep you occupied for some time, this is my number 1 pick)
--strikers 1945 2 (but psx jp release should run approx $15, number 2)
--strikers 1945+ (great fun, pump up the difficulty a few notches for added laughs!)

-and Soukyugurentai is ace on saturn, don't know much about the non-jp arcade release though.
I have no sig whatsoever.

Batrider, without a doubt. A review that I wrote will hopefully give you some more info on this great game.
Also Dodonpachi II : Bee Storm is NOT as bad as some others would have you think. It's still a very fun game that is highly playable. People just give it a hard time, because it doest live up to it's magnificent prequel. On it's own rights though it is a good shooter.

You've already got lots of opinions, so I'll pop in and suggest that, if you're not completely opposed to emulation, you download MAME and give the games which are playable in it (the majority of the stuff you listed above is) a try, to see which you like best for yourself...you might also want to consider whether or not the game is available on a home system or not; if you can get the game cheaper on Dreamcast/Saturn/whatever, maybe grabbing one of the arcade-exclusive shmups would be a better choice.

yeah, I could most likely play all of them in rom form....which is what I guess I will do to see if there's anything I really don't like. As for on a console....I am not too into my consoles much, besides a cheap pickup at the flea or something. I want some shmups in my cabs. I have Blazing Star and just sold Radiant Silvergun.

I appreciate all of the opinions and am now looking into Vasara II, Terra Driver, Batrider, and Strikers 1945 Plus....

Nomatter which one is still in stock and available, one of those will be nice for a little christmas present for myself. I thin I have earned it. If Batrider and varasa II are both available...maybe I will see if I can scrounge up enough for both since they seem to be tough to get.

just waiting on the email to order....

thanks everyone!
