What's the likelihood of another shmup making it to PS3?
What's the likelihood of another shmup making it to PS3?
As title says, curious as to what people think the likelihood of another shmup (especially Cave) being released onto PlayStation 3
Re: What's the likelihood of another shmup making it to PS3?
Cave: 0 chance.
Other devs: possible, but unlikely.

Very high at the moment, unless Caladrius Blaze is somehow canceled. Raiden IV OverKill was just released, although it has some major bugs that need to be patched.
Cave won't be releasing anything for the PS3 or any other Sony system. They're deep in Microsoft Japan's pocket at this point (I suspect this may have been the true reason for the cancellation of their Vita projects), and they're likely getting acquainted with an Xbox One devkit right now. Ketsui only made it to PS3 because the game was licensed out to 5pb.

DOJ BL EX should have like I dunno, a 1% chance.
I know the odds are bad because of the source code controversy and because (supposedly?) the Ketsui port didn't do very well but still, it shouldn't be an impossibility.

AFAIK every shmup released on the Ps3 has bombed reslly hard. Also 5PB if I'm not mistaken has already lost the rights on ketsui and DOJ, so the port of the first one was just to make a quick on money profit but it did'nt happen, cause then Infinite Burst would be also released on Ps3 but it hadn' been announced. Also Strania could have been ported to PSN, but nope guess I guess Under defeat sales on the system might something to do with it.
And IMO Moss is doing the same thing 5PB did with Ketsui, maybe to finance their next Raiden??
Don't get me wrong, although the 360 is dead in japan the core comunity is there, they won't even try to make ports right now. Seems more possible to me that they'd launch them on PSn for Ps4 rather than Ps3.
But you never now and the possibilitied are endless.

The PS3/4 userbase hates shumps, so why bother?

I don't see how a corporate decision to not support shmups on the PS3 reflects the tastes of the userbase, many of which also own X360's. Sony dropped the ball on this one.Kollision wrote:The PS3/4 userbase hates shumps, so why bother?

Re: What's the likelihood of another shmup making it to PS3?
You know, as much as I certainly would like to think that there will be yet more shmups coming to the PS3, I don't think there's much chance of that happening, especially with the PS4 out, and apparently, the Xbox One probably will be the shmup console. Kind of a shame, since I personally like the Sony controllers (I use the DS3 controller to play PC shmups, and what I learned there directly translates to PS2 shmups and PS1 shmups) more than the Xbox 360 controllers, even though I still do alright on the Xbox 360 controllers to where when I use the Xbox 360 controller, it doesn't have a foreign feel to it, so to speak, and I got used to it very quickly to where I don't lose any valuable shmup skill switching controllers (It had to work that way for me, since a lot of shmup games are on the Xbox 360 console, suffice to say). It would have been nice, if the PS3 had been a shmup console, as that would have meant controller consistency across the board, for me at least, but alas... Oh well, that's just what happened anyhow, so yeah.
Meh, I suppose controller diversity for me is not bad, that I've come to realise not long ago. Funny this happened, since I've come to the realisation, that, somehow, the Xbox 360 controller grew on me to the point it's on even ground with me to the DualShock controllers. Nowadays, rather, I see getting used to other controllers as a fun challenge for me, really.
Anyhow, back to the topic, at least there's Caladrius Blaze coming soon to the PS3 later on in the year, so that's very nice indeed! Best news I've heard in a while! Can't say I would complain about that! Otherwise, other than that, along w/ the release of Raiden IV Overkill, I'm afraid the PS3 may have just hit the bottom of the barrel in shmups, especially since Sony said something about supporting the PS3 until 2015. Of course, I could be missing something, and somehow, even more shmups come out for the PS3, but hmm... I don't know.
It always seemed like a very interesting question to me, I do wonder, how is it, that the Xbox 360 got to be the shmup console, and not the PS3. It looks like the Xbox One will be the shmup console too, probably. Man, I sure wish Sony had courted shmup companies more.

Re: What's the likelihood of another shmup making it to PS3?
PS3 support will continue through the end of 2016, at the very least. Sony has committed to a ten year life cycle for the system. I predict that Persona 5 will be the last major PS3-exclusive release that most people are aware of.
Around the time of the Xbox One launch, Microsoft said that 2016 will be the final year of 360 support, though. It remains to be seen whether they will merely be ending the 360's online multiplayer and communications services, or whether the Marketplace will be shuttered and patches made no longer downloadable.
