Being married, and sitting across from girls openly talking (in Japanese) about how they'd enjoy a full-size serving of me. I videoed the whole thing to show my wife the next time she tells me I'm a fat slob that shits up the bathroom.

Taking apart my VX-SA to (finally) switch out the stick for a Seimitsu, fanny around for half an hour with wires, screws and mounting plates, finally get everything back together and realise i've left the dust washer off. Fuck sake.

I can't think of anything more testing of a man's resolve. You should tell your wife you're a hero.

The new Firefox UI...so close to allowing a classic menu-free Firefox experience, but still a couple kinks to work out.

Restoring Tabs is slower than it used to be (more clicks). They still haven't fixed Ctrl+J to toggle on and off again, like it used to with the old (pre-FF26) ToolkitUI. Help button was invisible to me at first. The new UI still takes up more vertical space than Chrome's.

Rather you than me mate. Didn't take me that long to get mine sorted, probably a five minute job for someone that knows what they're doing.

So much anger in that post..? It's not difficult, but it is awkward to put together and it doesn't quite look / feel "right" even when it's done.

No no no I didn't mean that. I meant it didn't take long to put the vx-sa back together and that if I knew what I was doing it would probably have been a quick job. Now that I read the post back I can see how it looks, stupid non-verbal communication.

Ok :)

The last time I had it open, it took five minutes to get it apart and back together again...something like three times. The XE-1 ST2 is a really simple joystick, all told; real wiring would make things much harder.

When you walk half a mile or so to the nearest gamestop to buy the newest Kirby game and it's sold out.

Probably no one will relate to this, but... last night at a rehearsal I was oiling my valves [insert bad joke here] and one of the rubber bumpers popped off of my Gb valve. I couldn't find the bumper thanks to the speckled carpet in the room, and after trying to use it once I knocked the valve out of alignment.

English translation: a tiny rubber disc a couple of millimeters in diameter rendered my bass trombone completely unplayable.

There was at least a happy ending to the story, as one of the trumpet players found it after rehearsal.

Mosquitoes: A War Story

I sat up stalking the room at 3am, using my own limbs as bait. A cat and mouse game, the little predator even managed an additional bite on my toe when I was standing near the cupboard.

Exhausted, I covered myself in mosquito repellent and threw in the towel. Five minutes in darkness and ZZZZZ! he comes into my ear. I throw up a swat and flick the light on, lying on the pillow tired and frustrated.

But then I roll my eyes up. On the corner of the headboard I see him, sitting quietly, looking back at me.

Body inert, eyes fixed, I slowly raise my arm above him, palm in pancake mode, and hover toward him until he's covered in crosshair-like shadow, and - SLAP.

He makes a last second evasion, twirling out from under my blow. A moment of elation for the insect quickly turns sour when I see the speed of movement has left him dizzy, and I seize the opportunity for a follow up. Disoriented, he has no more pace left in him as my super palm rams him into the wall, his exploded carcass immortalised on the matte paint.

Interesting factoid:

The females are the only mosquitoes that drink the blood of humans and animals. The males are content with flower nectar.

Read into that what you will.

About 10 years ago the band I was playing with opened for blood for blood, packed show. In the middle of of our set I jumped and when I landed my pants fell down around my ankles. Had to finish the song like that.

Good times

Oh man, thankfully I've never had a major malfunction right before a show. The closest I've come is I burst a blood vessel in my middle finger right before a show in Vegas (the relatively new valves on my horn are amazing, but really heavy). My finger swelled up and I couldn't bend it, so I was flipping off the audience during the entire show.

Haha, I've been caught with my pants down many times over the years, but only figuratively. :D

Checking "SNES disassembly" images to double-check my positioning of the l-bar inside the reset lever...

...for one of the top hits, some plonker's got the L-part dangling down inside the moulding, instead of up in its groove (parallel with the ground) where it's supposed to be.

Oh, and nothing about the little lever inside the top shell, either, which is what I really wanted to see. Of course.

I dunno if this can be called a little thing, but I have to vent.

I've mentioned that I'm in an online relationship, right? Me in Brazil, he in the US&A. Well, about 5 weeks ago, he just... vanished. Poof, like that. Everything was perfectly normal one day, and then he simply didn't show up online again. I've even stalked his relatives' FB pages, if something real bad (ya know) had happened they would surely mention it, but nope.

I'm stumped. His family doesn't know about me, so, even though I've found his landline number with my mighty Google-fu, I dare not call his place (did I mention that I'm 11 years older than him? yeah, awkward). There's no friend in common that I could ask to call him. And he has no cell phone.

What the hell can I do, guys?

V8 juice not being sold in the big fuckoff 48oz yankee bottles anywhere in the UK, or so it seems. I like the telly, Britlandshire, but I can't get my drink on with these weenie 1l cartons! Even if I buy several and combine them in a similarly sized bottle!

Imma look into importing a big fuckn crate of 'em Image

move on... thats all you can do. i would never advise anyone to invest heavily into an online relationship, coz things like this happens. But something like this did happen to me a long time back in real life. we were going out for a year, then suddenly she stops all communication. her friends also stop receiving my calls. finally i found out that she was seeing someone else already. Was very upset, ended up leaving my hometown, moving to a bigger city, getting a better job. so use that negative energy to change your life for the better. looking back on it now, but she was way beneath me as person, didnt have the courtesy to do a proper breakup before moving on, i can do better and i have done better.

@ BIL: V8 CREW representatives ought to get a subscription or something. Damn, you just made me realize it's been way too long since I've had some. I had Clamato more recently than V8 juice!

So I'm catching up on a few of the new Family Guys I've missed recently, and one of the episodes is entirely about herpes! Wtf, Seth, why did you possibly think that was a good idea? And the last 5 or so seconds of the episode grossed me out of my mind. That's another FG episode I'm adding to my list of "things I never wanna see again" Somebody help me scrub my brain so it doesn't throw up all over the inside of my skull.

Because it means giving up a big part of your identity. You spend your whole life until marriage as a member of your own family. Then, suddenly, you belong totally to another. In name, if not in practice. I would never expect a girl I marry to take my name, no more than I would necessarily want to take hers. Hyphenations are an OK compromise.

What's even worse is the common practice of addressing mail to Mr. & Mrs. John Doe. Then you don't even get to keep your first name.

Sometimes people use the "double-barreled" names to look more impressive to the proles. It's kind of a big deal in England and Europe. But yeah, you're exactly right on this in what it asks of women.
