Help needed about my japan scart to Euro scart converter !

Post by lovecraft »

I built a japanese scart input to european scart output converter cable (one female scart connector receiving a japanese RGB source at one hand / one male scart connector to plug on an european TV at the other end).
I followed the pinout connections instructions between the japanese scart and the european scart, and linked the GND pins as recommended. Unfortunately it doesn't work : the screen shakes from time to time and gets darker :? Something tells me there is a problem with my GND's linking, but I'm not sure...

Below is a diagram of my converter in which I also drew my linking of the GND pins.
"1 J > 6 E" means I linked the pin 1 of the japanese female scart connector to the pin 6 of the european male connector.
If someone may tell me where I did a mistake in the following diagram ?

Here are the diagram instructions I followed :

what are you using the adapter for ?

There's so many stuff in there you really don't need on most devices. For example why did you include a RETURN line for the video ? I would start by simplifying the cable. Throw out the switching voltage if you don't need, blanking as well. The RGB grounds can also go.

I need it to plug a japanese Supergun (it has a japanese RGB scart cable) to my Euro/PAL TV

At first I did not link neither the AV control nor blanking. I connected ONLY the pins as surrounded in green and blue in the diagram above. But I got the same result (image shaking time to time and dark colours), so I tried to connect the other pins to see the result.

the shaking and dark colors hint at your switching voltage connection not properly working.

Try this: DON'T forward pin 16 from the japanese connector, but only pin 11. Then DON'T connect pin 8 on your european connector, but connect the signal you got from JP Pin 11 to Pin 16 on your EU end using a 100 ohms resistor in line (basically like it's done on all RGB cables. You can grab a resistor from any other cable if you don't have one on hand).

Thanks a lot for the advice fudoh (-__-)
Do I try to cut the R / G / B grounds also ?

I wouldn't remove those, in my experience having all the ground pins connected reduces both video and audio interference.

I have the same need to connect a JAP supergun to a EURO TV.
I am going to modify the cables from the JAP connector and transform it to a EURO one.

I found this pinout http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/xrgb-mini-fra ... onversion/ but on my JAP connector there are 2 more thick orange cables (GND are brown so I assume they are not GND) that are not on the pinout above.

Was there a good end of story on that old thread with the advice given by members?

It's ok I found the solution.
Btw the 2 additional wires are +5V.
Thx
