Goddammit. I understand the factors that led to the domination of the 360 for shmup ports. But can we please drop the exclusivity bullshit? Release the damn games everywhere developers: XBone, PS4, Wii U, PC, etc. Give me choice ffs.

I'm sure you're aware that porting and testing aren't free, especially for physical releases.

Combined with being a niche like shmups, well...tough.

PC would be best option for larger audience but it has its own set of development issues.

^ Agreed. Historically there have always been shmup consoles. Cave and G.Rev kickstarted the 360 and established an audience that other shmups devs want into. It's self-explanatory.

I really hope the XBONE does NOT become the default shmups console like the 360 is/was, as I will never ever buy that console no matter what.
If I won a XBONE from a competition or received it as a gift I would destroy it to keep it out of circulation, just a little contribution to the world.

I'm joking around

Generally I decide what software I want to use and then get the hardware to run it. I have no brand loyalty at this point. I do have a problem with the forced Kinect on the XBONE but so does everyone else. I will never have a constantly on video camera and microphone in my living room though, if that doesn't change I will never own it despite the software, so I hope that Microsoft will inevitably sell the machine without Kinect as an option. Another consideration is that having the genre on hardware that sells well in Japan unlike the 360 would expose more people to it and breath new life into the hobby. I can hope that things go a certain way but ultimately I tend to adapt in order to play the games if the circumstances are viable, I am very patient and tend to wait for enough of a library to be available before I sign up.

I go where the shmups are. Cave leads, my $$$ follows, simple as that. If it weren't for Microsoft cuffin' for Cave, I'd have gone the PCB route.

The Xbone is by far the least desirable next gen system IMO, however:-

When it comes to Japanese games on the big screen beggars really can't be choosers, the current climate of the Japanese market moving to handhelds / phones and changing western tastes means we are lucky to get any quality games.

It warms this cynical git's heart to see most shmup nuts here get that, shame the same way of thinking isn't shared by others like the Character Action Game community who acted like spoiled brats towards Nintendo who money hatted 2 CAG's and might have funded more if only the fanbase met them half way. Such a missed opportunity sigh.

If STG come to the Xbone I'll do what I usually do, buy the games and wait until I get around to picking up the hardware when it's cheaper.
