News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on Vita
R-types and R-type delta
Have been confirmed to work.
Neogaf is reporting all ps one and psp digital games on psn
Now work on the vita. Gradius Collection is not confirmed to work,
But it was available for Japanese ps vita users awhile back so should work.
http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=805716&page=2
For those who might not understand: the vita emulates ps one and psp games.
Due to this only select psp and ps one games were playable on the vita.
What the gaffers figured out was that you can buy ps one and psp classics
From the digital store and then download them to vita. Hence the number of games
playable on the vita just exploded.
Edit: Sony has patched the whole and the games are no longer available

Is R-Type Delta actually available for sale on the PSN anymore? I was looking for it but couldn't find it. I assumed it went down when Irem died.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
It was de-listed. You can still re-download it if you have an account that already purchased it, though.ACSeraph wrote:Is R-Type Delta actually available for sale on the PSN anymore? I was looking for it but couldn't find it. I assumed it went down when Irem died.
Irem is not dead, they are still a functioning company. They just sold off most of their non-pachinko licenses to an undisclosed third party. However, they still have at least partial ownership of R-Type, since the monochrome Game Boy port was included on a 3DS pachinko game not long ago, and the recent PS3 port of Dimensions bears their name.
The only sold Irem license with a known buyer is Spelunker. That went to Tozai Games, who developed Dimensions.

The disc is so expensive though...
Someone needs to stick Darius Gaiden on there too, I want some badly ported portable Gaiden action when I'm on the train.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
I hear PS1 emulation on PC is pretty good these days. Maybe not as convenient, but better than Sony's official emulation.
Irem actually sent out a call for prospective employees as recently as last December. It only mentions pachinko games, and they apparently still consider becoming the "industry leader" to be their goal.

Thank you for that one.
Btw R-types command is up there. Could have swore I saw r-types on psn earlier as a ps one classic. Not sure. Ok the r-type games are definitely not there and sadly a lot of the neo geo games aren't available either. Regardless Gradius collection I will pick up soon.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
As has already been pointed out R-Types and R-Types Δ were de-listed from the JPN PSN on 2011-Aug-11 and from the US PSN a year later. However I have the R-Types and R-Type Δ "bubbles" from the US PSN sitting on my PS3 - the Vita's Content Manager refuses to pick them up.Laurel_McFang wrote:R-types and R-type delta
Have been confirmed to work.
So I suspect that R-Types and R-Types Δ "work" with CFW - but not with OFW.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
You need to download them from the download list in the Vita store.HydrogLox wrote:As has already been pointed out R-Types and R-Types Δ were de-listed from the JPN PSN on 2011-Aug-11 and from the US PSN a year later. Not from a PS3 or the web store (though I heard the web store works now).
Gradius Collection always somewhat worked (Gradius Gaiden sound emulation occasionally glitches out) if you transferred them from a PS3, though skipping that step will be very nice next time I'm on OFW.

Can anyone comment on Zanac X Zanac?

I can confirm Zanac x Zanac has been working. I've had it on my Vita since November & play it regularly.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
Thanks - yes, that worked. Used to be that using the PS3 as the "middle-man" was the workaround to getting many PSOne and PSP titles onto the Vita. Even Wipeout Pure is now enabled via the download list.ZellSF wrote:You need to download them from the download list in the Vita store.HydrogLox wrote:However I have the R-Types and R-Type Δ "bubbles" from the US PSN sitting on my PS3 - the Vita's Content Manager refuses to pick them up.

The Vita has some kind of video output right? If so can it upscale PSP games to a better resolution?

Nope. There are some hardware mods out there that add that capability, but the results seem to be somewhat variable.Zorator wrote:The Vita has some kind of video output right?

How do I buy these games? The only modern Sony game system I have is a vita, and the rest of the PSP/PSone category doesn't show up on it.

Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
A regular Vita has no video output, but the Vita TV outputs PSP games at 720p full screen and they look quite good. Darius Burst looks great on it.Zorator wrote:The Vita has some kind of video output right? If so can it upscale PSP games to a better resolution?

From the webstore in the psp category or via the ps3 store in psone classics. We might need to make a list of shmups available on vita now. The number has risen by about 20 but sadly lacks many of the ones available on psp.cave hermit wrote:How do I buy these games? What's the situation with using multiple accounts on a Vita? Do you need to have each region account on a different memory card? I have PS1 games downloaded onto my PS3 from USA and JPN stores on 2 accounts. It's a shame that a lot of PSP titles were never released digitally. The Salamander collection was never released was it?
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
Don't mean to burst any ones bubble, but i would tread lightly with PS3 and Vita emulation in shmups. Every one i own from PSN has input lag to a degree. Some games are completely broken and unplayable IMO. I prefer using EPSXE, PSX, Xebra, or PCSX-reloaded. If you want accurate pixel reproduction get edglba plugin.

Salamander Collection was indeed released digitally on the Japanese PSN. I have it on my Vita TV and it's great.bcass wrote:What's the situation with using multiple accounts on a Vita? As for the account question as far as I know yes, you need to have each account and their respected games on a different memory card.

I have a portable Vita and yes it's one account per memory card which is awful. I have an American account, a Thai account from when I lived in Thailand, and a Hong Kong account and a Japanese one too. I am an English teacher and move countries yearly and vita's region restriction means I can not play over 1/2 of the games I have purchased on psn over the years. Multi-accounts is becoming a highly requested feature so hopefully it will work out eventually. Right now all of my ps3 psone classics and cross-buy games I can not access.

From:The PS Vita Thread - Most PSN PS1 & PSP Games Compatible Now
Unbelievable - yep, Wipeout Pure, R-Types and R-Type Δ are now blocked by the download list again ...ZellSF wrote:And this no longer works. The compatibility list is back and you can't download all PSX/PSP software. This "accident" had the weirdest timing, righter after the Crash Bandicoot/Spyro sale.ZellSF wrote:Early impressions says they've removed the compatibility list entirely.
You can download tons of PSX and PSP software you couldn't before.

It really sucks just got a 100 usd gift card for my birthday and was going to get Gradius collection tonight. Oh well I'll get the original on the 3DS VC.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
While Gradius Collection is blocked via the download list you may still be able to download it via the content manager from a PS3 (which is how I got it onto the Vita).
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but I've been searching around and couldn't seem to find an answer to this:
Does anybody know for sure if Gradius Collection from the EU PSN store runs on Vita? It's listed as PSP-only; some of the replies on here have got my hopes up but I'm worried it might just work in NA.

Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
I'd just recommend getting an old PSP, loading up CFW, and using PSX2PSP conversions of any shmups you want to play. I do that with Darius Gaiden, Einhander, etc. and most of them play great. The other great thing is, if you have one with a working UMD drive, you can use ISO_Tool to rip the game(s) directly from your personally owned UMD's to your memory stick. I have done that with Gradius Collection, Platypus, and the 2 import shmup collections I own for PSP (Parodius Collection & Soldier Collection). As much as I'd like to own a Vita and use it for PSP-like emulation, Sony has locked it down so much harder than the PSP that it's hardly worth using for anything but official Vita titles, or maybe a handful of cross-platform PSN games that you want to play on the go. But the PSP is a great mobile shmups machine, between the scant few official titles, PSX2PSP conversions, and straight-up emulation.lawnspic wrote:Don't mean to burst any ones bubble, but i would tread lightly with PS3 and Vita emulation in shmups. Any specific reason you are concerned about the EU PSN version being different - PSP games were not region specific.Tregard wrote:I'm worried it might just work in NA.
And as it is even with the NA PSN store you need to download it to a PS3 first and then use the Vita content manager to get it onto the Vita.

Whether PSP games work on a Vita or not is region-specific. SCEE has not allowed certain PSP games on PSN to work on Vita at all: http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/ ... p/21920431HydrogLox wrote:Any specific reason you are concerned about the EU PSN version being different - PSP games were not region specific.Tregard wrote:I'm worried it might just work in NA.

The same seems to be true for Gradius Collection. http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/ ... p/21668493 I think, in general, even if you can transfer a PSP game from PS3 to Vita in NA, it's not guaranteed in the EU.
Re: News: a lot (if not all) digital ps1 & psp games now on
Last time I tried with the EU version, you could download the app to your PS3, but nothing would let me actually transfer the game across to the Vita. This was maybe, I dunno, sometime within the last 12 months.
And yes, fuck everyone and anyone even remotely responsible for that.
