Re: The PS Vita Thread - Most PSN PS1 & PSP Games Compatible
Tried a little bit of Demon Gaze yesterday:
- Speaking as someone with limited dungeon crawler experience, I'd definitely call it harder than the most recent Etrian Odyssey games, at least at the start, largely because you don't begin with a full party and instead have to build one piece by piece, and money is quite scarce. Dungeon layouts aren't random but the loot you find is, and while staying at your inn/home base isn't too expensive it gets pricier as you get stronger.
- The artwork is mostly static but looks nice, though a lot of the character designs are very fan servicey - the music has vocaloids in it, but they're not featured front and center, they blend in with the rest of the orchestrations pretty well.
- The main element that stands out a bit is the main character's ability to capture and summon demons (bosses, basically) - each one grants you some manner of field ability (hidden passage detection, no floor damage, etc.) and summoning one into battle basically gives you an extra AI-controlled party member, though they'll sometimes pop in and out on their own. You also can't keep them out for too long or else they'll try to kill you: putting them away lets them recharge as you give/receive battle damage (basically a super meter), but it isn't restored when you stay at the inn, so you might have to grind before a big fight if you want them available.
- Mind you, you'll probably be grinding anyway, not only for the aforementioned scant funds, but because the game isn't hesitant to abruptly break a pattern of manageable fights with something WAY beyond your current level; this is especially frustrating at monster circles (which you need to expend an item to fight at, and must win at least once apiece to clear a map), which will be your main sources of critters that drop decent items, and it really bites to waste an item summoning something at random that you have no chance against (and inevitably failing to run away and getting wasted/sent back to the title screen).
- There is somewhat more of a story element here than in EO, as there are several named characters hanging around the inn that you can talk to and do quests for - no major issues with the voice acting so far (though as usual you can switch to Japanese if you prefer), though again the otaku-bait designs might turn some off (that said, the game doesn't take itself 100 percent seriously - the gal running the inn has a money fixation that reminds me a bit of the Time Goddess from Half-Minute Hero, for instance).
Overall methinks this game is probably intended for more seasoned dungeon crawlers than myself - it's supposedly more lenient than some of its peers (for whatever that's worth), but I find myself "feeling" the invisible dice rolls more here than I tend to prefer, to the point that expeditions can feel like crap shoots. Some players find that an endearing part of the experience, but I'm not one of them; also, I must emphasize that maybe things get more engaging once you've broken through the initial wall and gotten a decently-outfitted party together, but if you want to try this one out be prepared to earn your stripes from the start.

And this no longer works. The compatibility list is back and you can't download all PSX/PSP software. This "accident" had the weirdest timing, righter after the Crash Bandicoot/Spyro sale.ZellSF wrote:Early impressions says they've removed the compatibility list entirely.
You can download tons of PSX and PSP software you couldn't before.

Hello community!
DId anyone play LEGO Lord of the Rings on the Vita? How is the game and how does it compare to the console versions?

I got a copy of Lemmings Touch Vita sent my way, but I'm not actually reviewing it for anywhere, so this is my coverage:. Alas, (and I say this as an Amiga fanboy and lover of Lemmings back in the day, who also loves my Vita), it's really uninspired, and mighty dull, with ropey touch implementation. Stay clear, even if you're an Amiga nostalgia-ist!
Next up on my Vita list is Soul Sacrifice Delta (worth playing?) and PlayStation Pets, which I may have to play for reviewing purposes. If I don't end up reviewing Pets, as with previous codes I've got free through work and not used, I'll offer it here for free. You'd just have to have the courage to admit to wanting PS Pets! You can pretend it's for a gift.

There might be a kernel exploit for 3.15. Which would be nice since then I would get to play the recently released Final Fantasy Type-0 translation.
New PS+ format for the US is two games for each platform each month. This month we're getting Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe for Vita which would have been terribly disappointing if we didn't also get Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate and Sly 4 because of crossbuy.
Oh and the one Vita game everyone's seen footage of has finally been released in the US:

^ So TN jacked in development but took all the source with him? That's cold.
After the mandatory update recently I purchased a second Vita. It's the best PSP I've ever had and I don't want to lose that, but I figured I may at some point want to play some actual Vita games too (although I still have no.idea what.)
Also I figure a second OLED model is a good investment. I was in the game store and did a simple side by side test of the 1000 and 2000 models using the XMB Theme button with background set to blue. There is a huge difference in colour clarity and depth.

TN 9.5 has been released (some people are just drama whores). Might be interesting to people on CFW since there's now a in-progress sound plugin for PSX games. I found emulation lag on the Vita to be intolerable for faster paced games though.
For people on OFW, there's been another stealth release: Magical Beat. It's a falling blocks game where you have to drop pieces to the rhythm of the music. Port of a arcade game, so very limited game modes. There's a demo and if you don't like the demo you won't like anything in the full game.

Wow, 9.5, awesome. PSX sound plugin is a good start, looking forward to seeing it develop, although PSX emulation on my android tablet is rather more impressive I'd wager.
Zell, is the update to 9.5 doable from within the XMB?

No idea, I'm not on CFW.
It should be though. Assuming you're not faking region, you can just use the XMB update function. Make sure you have a backup of the exploit game before trying of course.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Maybe this isn't the most appropriate thread (but I doubt we have a PSN store thread?), anyway... what happened with the latest store update from Sony?
PSP games aren't featured anymore. They're there, but you can only find them by searching each one individually.
Laughably, they don't show up even if you sort releases like "most recent first". On this june, Gradius Collection and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles were added to the EU store, and I found out by complete accident.

Very late, I'm finally into Sound Shapes Vita. Once you complete the game, the newly unlocked single-screen hard-mode challenges are a blast. Recommended, and if you're one for Trophy farming, after getting not a single trophy in the main game until you clear the whole main mode, you get a silver for every level cleared. Still, bloody hard.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
It's been awhile since I played this one, but I recall grumbling a fair deal in those stages, since the pickups seemed to appear in random spots which could make your job a lot easier or harder depending on the luck of the draw. I guess there wasn't really much of an alternative, since "fixed" item appearances would have gotten stale much more quickly, but especially with the timer going it was a bit of a pain just retrying and hoping for a more cooperative layout to show up.spadgy wrote:Once you complete the game, the newly unlocked single-screen hard-mode challenges are a blast.

Like I said, best PSP I've ever owned. As an independent game platform it's a bit useless, and this is from someone who owns two.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
While cross-buy is nice, marketing the Vita as a PS4 accessory will not help it, nor will it help the PS4. It actually hurts the Vita, since most of its games are available elsewhere and no one wants a gaming handheld other than their phone.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Finally picked up TxK a few weeks ago when it was on sale.
It's pretty good gameplay-wise (as expected), but it's also quite buggy and the leaderboards update very slowly. And motion controls should have no place in this game; they add nothing of any value and actually take away from the experience.
I think Space Giraffe is the better game overall, mainly due to the deeper scoring system. Though the way in which TxK's gameplay is balanced probably makes it far less intimidating to get into. Both games would benefit greatly by having half as many levels, but this is especially true for TxK.

Are there any protection foils specific for Vita games out there or should I just buy dvd/cd ones?

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Are there any decent action games worth buying for the Vita?
No Monster Hunter clones, strategy, RPGs or shitty Hentai stuff. I feel as though I'm heavily neglecting the console's main purpose, but every time I go in the local store I can't find anything I'm interested in. I'm seriously considering buying Muramasa and replaying it.
What about FPSes, anything of note?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is okay. It's only 30 fps and it's Sigma, but it gets the job done if you want a portable action game.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is a complete piece of shit on the other hand. It has to be one of the worst ports of the last 15 years, with its choppy framerate, blurry graphics, and broken tag missions that are literally impossible to complete.
