Hi guys,
I just picked up a very nice genesis today. I took it apart to clean and noticed some modding. Any idea what was modded on it?

Speculation: switchless overclock (with **Mhz oscillator) + freezone mod ?
EDIT: Sorry, probably not. If nobody can guess here maybe ask on sega-16.com forums

Looks more like some kind of service center repair than anything else.

I agree with ApolloBoy. The little board that was added in says "(C) Sega" so it is probably part of a repair.
I'd be interested to know what that chip is, though. It has a ground and power wire, of course, but has one input and one output. Hmm.
