It's Blue Javelin with near-uncontrollable speed. Blue Javelin's missiles aren't the best in the world anyway: most folks I've seen that bother with Dark Sword are doing it for funsies or picking it's Slave ship purely for the extra speed.

Awesome collection! I was so excited to find out this was coming to the 360!

I had only experienced RF1 out in a Vegas arcarde years ago, and I pumped tons of quarters in an RF2 cabinet at our local theater (amazing to have, since I live in BFE). The games are so much fun to just blast through, as many of us here will agree.

So naturally I have spent hours learning how to pump up the medal scores early and you can see the results on the current leaderboards. You should find me pretty easy on RF1 and RF2 boards, normal game.

My only experience with Raiden Fighters in the arcades was finding RF1 at an amusement park about eight years ago. The operator must have set the difficulty to the lowest level, as I 1CCed it on my first credit.

The same park also had Time Traveler, the infamously terrible FMV game made for Sega's holographic screen cabinet.

Looks fine to me. What display and video connection are you using?
The original arcade PCB was 54 fps and the port only outputs 59.94 fps. Your options are:

1. Speed up the same game engine by ~6 fps. Motion is smooth but everything is harder to dodge... This is sort of like playing a Cave game without slowdown, except it's always missing.

2. Duplicate every ~9th frame. (54/9) * 10 = 60. But this means the action pauses for 1 frame every 9 frames. It's jittery, the scrolling backgrounds and bullets don't move evenly.

3. Blend every ~9th frame. This still has all the problems of 2. basically.

The only way to get truly faithful motion is to output an integer multiple of 54 fps. I'm not sure if this is possible on X360 but not getting 54 fps is a bigger deal to me than scanlines.
Wow, thank you for this post. Now I finally know the meaning behind the options!

Yestersday I finally got my copy and immediately fall in love. Such great games, all 3 titles!
The picture setting "nearest neighboor" --> 4x scanline (soft)--> Scanline Bias 30...(edit!) looks incredible good on my hd tv

I know for RFJ fps setting is 54 fps ,I set it to 54 fps (true) there are other options like "blend",which one to choose ? For RF & RF2 same settings ?

Thanks for help !

Raiden Fighters Aces is among one of many shmups that I'm planning on getting pretty soon! From what I've seen, the gameplay looks really nice, and I've always wanted to play the Raiden series, but never did get the chance to. I'll be getting that one sometime soon, hopefully.

Always loved Raiden. Aces, IV and Cave's ports are what pushed me to finally get a used Xbox lblack friday. PS3 is leagues better in every possible category, but the shmups are sparse. I believe there are a grand total of three (!) retail shooters for PS3.

Ixion is my main, btw since we're discussing ships.

Holy CRAP that was so fun. Thank you for making this thread, OP. I ended up buying it off ebay after reading comments here for $30 and just burned three hours straight playing this collection. Wow. I have not been this satisfied with a game in a long ass time. I've been playing all of the localized Cave games on my 360 lately and this was sort of a breath of fresh air--no super complicated scoring, not a bunch of meters, no creepy loli stuff, just chaos and bullets.

I love that it's a retro game too. The aesthetic gives me a vague sense of nostalgia from games I used to play. Sort of reminded me of Metal Slug for some reason. I pretty much suck at shmups since I'm new but I love the difficulty on this one. It's hard enough that it's challenging but not hard to the point where you have to repeat certain sections a million times to memorize them. Every damn I died it felt very "fair" and I was able to adapt next time. Love the fact that there's so many unique ships too. Jeez. I think I found my "home" as far as shmups go. I feel like a little kid again.

8) You're welcome. 8)

I was listening to the music in my car today and it really gets by blood going ( I started speeding), I even reduced the sound effects in the game in half so that I could appreciate the music more.

what's your tag? i've made sure to update my scores every year since the game has come out since they expire, which is retarded. i make sure to be no.1 on every ship, in every game, on every difficulty,. i should be easier to find

I want to say I picked up my copy for 10 bucks, but that was a while ago. This game was undervalued for a long time because shmups are generally unappreciated in the US (outside the shmup community anyway).

The soundtrack for the first two games could be described as "pulse pounding". The tempo is so fast and there's so much going on one screen, it's like a chaotic adrenaline storm. The synths are really brutal and aggressive sounding, Go Satou did a great job with the soundtrack. I think the grumbling in the other thread was directed just at the third game, which was composed by a different person.

I think the best thing about Raiden Fighters (or Jet at least, that's what I've played most) is that the bosses actually go down quick. I really can't stand some of the more meandering scrolling shooter bosses. These bosses are like... 30 second bursts of intensity at the end of the level. They aren't pushovers but they don't overstay their welcome. And bombs actually do something against them.

They are some of my favorite bosses, honestly.
