Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
Hmmm, sounds fascinating. At first, I though this was pertaining to the Semicom produced Wyvern Wings PCB but alas, it's not. Just out of curiousity, how much does a real Wyvern F0 PCB go for on the secondary arcade PCB market these days?
I never did encounter such a Wyvern F0 cab at the local arcades during the 1985 era though.

To be honest, I don't know what its value would be, but I imagine that value is about to plummet now that Mame has basically emulated it.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Hmmm, sounds fascinating. Another one bites the dust, although it lost all his charm since the 3 d effect can't be properly emulated.
Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
Looks like nothing remarkable without its 3D gimmick, just another uninspired Xevious clone. Still, it's good to see another piece of Taito history preserved.

I believe the PCB sent to guru for dumping cost about $4000.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:how much does a real Wyvern F0 PCB go for on the secondary arcade PCB market these days?

It might be possible with HLSL, but I'm not an expert in all of those effects, so I can't say for sure, either.Phellan Wolf wrote:Another one bites the dust, although it lost all his charm since the 3 d effect can't be properly emulated.
Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
Before reading the Luca's writeup I just thought this was a rare game...neat stuff indeed. Well...the game itself...yuck. But cool hardware features.
Unless HLSL offers some kind of 3D output option, I don't think it's relevant.
The writeup is a bit vague, but it sounds as if the half-silvered upper mirror lends a real parallax effect to scenes (i.e., move your head, and the forward scene will shift over the background). I know that's not what it actually says, but I can't understand how it would create the 3D illusion by mixing both images on the half-silvered mirror...and if it was a simple projection of two screens, then you would use a regular mirror, not a half-silvered one.Master O wrote:It might be possible with HLSL

Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
Guru seems to have lost his website (again), it was up a day ago. Anyway, regarding the price of the game he had a picture showing the last time it showed up on Yahoo Japan....for at least $10,000 USD.
As for graphics complaints, the colours are apparently off on some of it. I could see that making it look worse than it actually looks even without the 3D effect, so don't be discounting this one by its looks. Graphics whoring about a game from 1985, fuck me.

GFX looks kinda like Terra Cresta.

Kinda fitting in a way. The last time the subject of this game came up him and Smitdogg came to a head and he got banned from MAMEWorld with his website deleted, and now it's popped up again and this iiNet site's gone too. I don't expect those pages will be gone for long though.
EDIT: Website back up: http://members.iinet.net.au/~lantra9jp1/gurudumps/
Same link without the 1 at the end, and with a new post etc to go with it.

Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
Any other ideas on the monitor arrangement bit? MAME people are rightly excited that part of this is preserved, but it worries me that they might not really understand this detail about the game.

Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
To be frank even I'm not quite understanding that detail about it. From what I read it seemed like some kind of stereoscopic trick to basically make it like what iMax 3D is like now for most movies: perception of things having depth, but the mention of half-silvered mirror makes me think the enemies are supposed to be transparent or something. I'm clearly stabbing in the dark at something I don't quite comprehend.
Re: Wyvern F0 Now Emulated in Mame
I'm attaching more importance on the mention of a half-silvered mirror than my own guesses as to what it's supposed to look like...this could be more clearly explained, definitely.
